Can be played by everyone from age 13 to 86
Can be played while sitting down on the sofa
Can be played by people who aren't board game fans

I'm trying to find something for the 5pm lull in Xmas Day. Ancient and infirm PILS and a 13 year old with the attention span of a gnat. The rest between 17 and 54. About 8 of us.

Sussed. It's a great game!

GnomeDePlume · 15/12/2019 17:07

Pit is good for all ages.

My family play the nasty horse racing game! It has been in our family for generations and everybody loves it and it is so simple to play, my little brother and sister even get involved and they are under 16. It is that popular with my family that my mum and dad discussed who would take it in the divorce.. my dads grandad bought it originally so he won that but for Christmas he did buy my mum her own copy

Download an app for free called 'Heads Up'

You choose from a category and one player puts the phone on their forehead and everyone around has to describe the word and the player with the phone has to guess. You move the phone up if u get it correct, or down if you get it incorrect.

You have a minute to guess as many as you can, then it's the next persons turn.

It's good as everyone is involved and you can sit in the couch to play.

Give everyone a roll of sellotape and a prize goes to the person that can unravel theirs fastest. Grin

AftonGlen · 15/12/2019 18:45

Charades

@TrickyD the spinner board will be in German too for that German edition of the Sock Game. It's £15 in Argos though. Hopefully in English!

brassbrass · 16/12/2019 16:15

Wink murder. Doesn't require anything just the participants.

RobinBlues · 16/12/2019 16:17

Settlers of Catan, up to 4 players, but you can get the expansion set.

My 8 year olds love it, as do all the adults we know.

brassbrass · 16/12/2019 16:18

I thought Obama llama too but not sure if the younger players might find the famous people references hard.

RobinBlues · 16/12/2019 16:19

Settlers of Catan - Basic game is for 3-4 players.

hellsbellsmelons · 16/12/2019 16:35

If you have a coffee table then Dobble is great fun.
Must find mine - think my daughter stole it!!!

SolemnlySwear2010 · 16/12/2019 16:35

EmrysAtticus - I have not played Stop the Bus in years!!!!

EmrysAtticus · 16/12/2019 16:39

I love it it is a classic Solemnly. Are you going to revive it this year?!

Family fortunes

With questions like "name something red" or "name something you brush" children and adults can play on a fairly equal basis. Our family enjoys this as it's so very simple too.

HeatedDryer · 16/12/2019 16:50

Also recommend Sussed. We played it with 10 yr old to 80 yr old family group last Christmas.

Daria32 · 16/12/2019 16:54

Who’s In the Bag?
Everyone writes the names of 3 famous people on a piece of paper and puts it in a bag. 2 teams, one minute each to describe them until you get to the last piece of paper, second round- act them out like charades and 3rd round you can only say one word. It’s really fun and harder than you think- even though by round 3, you know exactly who is in the bag!

Arthritica · 16/12/2019 18:16

Randomise?
You get 30 seconds to describe/60 to draw/90 to mime your word to the others. It’s fun and allows people to play to their strengths

TrickyD · 16/12/2019 18:21

Thanks Turkeysoupdragon. We bought one from Argos in the end. The spinner could have been a serious problem Crown Smile

ginandgingers92 · 16/12/2019 18:32

Did anyone used to/anyone still play 'squeak piggy squeak'!?
