Can be played by everyone from age 13 to 86
Can be played while sitting down on the sofa
Can be played by people who aren't board game fans

I'm trying to find something for the 5pm lull in Xmas Day. Ancient and infirm PILS and a 13 year old with the attention span of a gnat. The rest between 17 and 54. About 8 of us.

Ignore the “you get”, message box went loopy!

Boysnme · 15/12/2019 12:06

Pictionary Air for us this year

bananasandwicheseveryday · 15/12/2019 12:09

The Chameleon. Do t even have to move from your seats
Obama Lama is also worth a look.

shinynewapplesonachristmastree · 15/12/2019 12:10

Charades

Pub quiz (so similar to Trivial Pursuit but just get a quiz questions book, or those little packs they sell as stocking fillers)

We used to have a lot of board-game style things for our wii, eg who wants to be a millionaire, monopoly. Would assume you could get similar for whatever games console your DC has, or your smart TV

Trewser · 15/12/2019 12:11

Boysnme i was thinking this but it is £££

How does it work??

Stinky pig. A great hit with all ages here last Christmas.

Knittingnanny · 15/12/2019 12:16

Guesstures is an amazing fun game, the older more infirm can nominate someone in their team to operate the “gadget”

MillieMoodle · 15/12/2019 12:22

Dobble!

Played it for the first time on Friday night and it's fab! Everyone from age 3 to 39 was happy apart from DH because I absolutely battered him and he can't bear to lose anything. Grin

minimonkey11 · 15/12/2019 12:28

Get the ‘Heads Up’ app on your phone- just like the name game but quicker and easier!

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 15/12/2019 12:29

Can't be Trivial Pursuit as I learned all the answers one Christmas when bored and my family refuse to play it with me.

😂😂😂

nutellalove · 15/12/2019 12:29

Pass the parcel but make your own forefits - they could be nice family ones eg 'tell a funny story about someone in the room'

KidLorneRoll · 15/12/2019 12:32

Shifty Eyed Spies.

DaphneBlake101 · 15/12/2019 12:41

Tension - we've played it every Boxing Day with numbers from 4 to 24 and a range of ages up to 80. Everyone can get involved - it's basically like Family Fortunes where you have to come up with 'top 10' results for different categories.

Trewser · 15/12/2019 12:45

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn tbf I was a bit poorly and spent a lot of time in bed. Took me about 8 hours Grin

ActualHornist · 15/12/2019 12:47

That is probably what will end up happening but the PILS have requested a 'game or something not tv'

Bet they still fall asleep Grin

BlueLips · 15/12/2019 13:26

Absolute Balderdash

It has a board, but it isn’t really a board game.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 15/12/2019 13:30

I wondered what game you were suggesting - this is how it appears on my "threads I'm on" preview...

😂😂

Another vote for the sock game, really simple but we had hours of fun last year with an age range of 7 - 83.

Boysnme · 15/12/2019 15:54

Trewster it’s £15 but we haven’t opened it yet as it’s a present for kids but I think you can link it to a smart tv / phone / tablet so good for sitting about the living room.

Rockbird · 15/12/2019 16:08

No takers for the minister's cat then Xmas Grin

BrownOwlknowsbest · 15/12/2019 16:30

Hi Rockbird, We play the minister's cat all the time to fill in time between courses of Christmas dinner, except in our house the cat was adopted by grandma and so becomes 'My Grandmother's cat'
Another idea no one has mentioned yet is how about a sing-song. Download some Christmas songs/ carols and print off some words and off you go.

TrickyD · 15/12/2019 16:31

I looked for the Sock Game on Amazon.Uk.The English version is £17.49, the German is only £12.02.
It seems a simple game, would we non-German speakers be able to cope?

GoBackToPartyCity · 15/12/2019 16:38

Beanboozled? 😂

ginandgingers92 · 15/12/2019 16:39

Obama Llama!

MumW · 15/12/2019 16:47

I'd also recommend Codenames - we've played it at lots of mixed age group family gatherings.

My DH & DD would recommend Carcasone as a good 2 player game.
