He feels fine in himself didn’t even know he had it till I saw it. No itching, no known allergies no other symptoms can anyone say what this might be or what we should do?

CustardySergeant · 14/12/2019 22:29

Isn't urticaria itchy though?

Bobbiepin · 14/12/2019 22:30

Don't be scared if he suddenly gets drowsy. Antihistamines and alcohol don't usually react well, he'll sleep well tonight.

catgirl1976 · 14/12/2019 22:31

No itching. Chucked a beta blocker down him as well. Going to see if it eases off he’s changed his mind about ringing 111 as he doesn’t want to bother the NHS unnecessarily 🙄

OK, shortness of breath does suggest a potential problem.

(I am someone whose skin frequently does tiresome things like itch or change colour when there is nothing to worry about.)

Has he used anything new on his hair? Or beard?

catgirl1976 · 14/12/2019 22:33

Nope no new hair products or hair dye. He had to stop using just for ken as he had a massive allergic reaction to that a while ago so he’s not used anything like that

Stupid phone - just for men, not just for ken

OP posts:
lanthanum · 14/12/2019 22:35

I broke out in hives one Christmas (neck to ankle), and we think it may have been the Christmas tree. I haven't had hives again, but I definitely react to Christmas trees - usually headachey.

Whatthingsexactly · 14/12/2019 22:36

Looks just like my other half when he reacts to alcohol.

Whiskey used to trigger it every time, and red wine. I once splashed beer on him which also set it off, though oddly he was fine to drink it.

He doesn’t get it at all these days.

The short press of breath is mildly concerning but nothing that won’t keep for a GP visit unless it gets worse.

Mollychristmas · 14/12/2019 22:36

Any shortness of breath and you really need to call 111
In fact he obviously felt a bit wheezy (and told you so) but is now downplaying it so I think you should call anyway.

FamilyOfAliens · 14/12/2019 22:36

Probably because his name’s not Ken? Grin

catgirl1976 · 14/12/2019 22:36

I think it’s fading a bit so maybe the anti histamine is helping. Going to stay up for an hour to keep an eye on it. If it gets better - allergy. If it gets worse - 111. If it stays the same pharmacy tomorrow. At least we have a plan. Thank you everyone x

Bobbiepin · 14/12/2019 22:37

Shortness of breath is worth a 111 call especially after the combination of meds you've given him whilst he's been drinking. Please don't give him anything else.

catgirl1976 · 14/12/2019 22:37

His name is not ken so he should have known better 😂. Breathing is ok now think I panicked him!

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 14/12/2019 22:38

And no, I won’t give him anything else. Definitely looks
Like it’s calming down

OP posts:
Gerrytrude · 14/12/2019 22:40

Even if its not hives allergies can develop at any age. Think it's more likely something he uses / normally has has changed its ingredients / materials

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 14/12/2019 22:40

You haven’t just put up a fake Christmas tree have you? Random question I know but I reacted quite badly to a fake tree one year, something about the fibreglass or something really irritated my skin!

catgirl1976 · 14/12/2019 22:43

No the tree is t up yet. It’s fading now quite quickly so I think it was some sort of random allergic reaction which the anti-h has knocked on the head - phew

Happened to my ds yesterday, his face and trunk covered, but at least I could make out the hives. So strange, only thing different was a rowntrees jelly pot

Purpleartichoke · 14/12/2019 22:46

Adult onset allergies are a thing. Products and foods you had no trouble with suddenly become allergens. So it may not be something new

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 14/12/2019 22:50

Probably because his name’s not Ken?

Ha that made me laugh out loud Grin

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/12/2019 22:51

I think it's an allergic reaction, they can definitely develop as an adult.

RJoneszy · 14/12/2019 22:51

Has he had any cocktails... it sounds bizarre but I have a brother who gets rashes after citrus- based cocktails like pineapple or lemons... could be a citrus reaction as looked the same?

Knockalockin · 14/12/2019 22:53

How much wine has he had?
I get those gives and shortness of breath occasionally after a bottle. Always worse in my chest area

It does wear off quickly after stopping drinking.

catgirl1976 · 14/12/2019 22:54

No cocktails. It’s almost completely gone now so assume it must have been some random allergy and the anti histamine sorted it out. Big relief

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 14/12/2019 22:55

He’s had about a bottle - no wine left so no more wine to be taken and seems much better
