Welfare shouldn't be so utterly common. It's for those in actual need, not a 'top up' or nice little extra
It isn’t a nice little extra but I agree, it shouldn’t be more common.
However where I disagree with many Tories is that it is in the gift of government to drive policies which increase the wealth overall of individuals. You can do this by growing the economy and finding incentives for higher paying industries to base themselves here. You can also give workers better protections so that they get paid decent wages. This doesn’t have to be militant unions - there are other options.
We need to encourage industries such as green technology to base themselves here in the UK - this creates decent jobs. Fucking shame that George Osborne cut subsidies in this area which meant investment was pulled. How short sighted.
Also if the public sector spends money, that puts money into the hands of people via wages who spend that money in the economy. It puts money in the hands of businesses (eg where the public sector uses their services), which increases wages and ultimately more money for people to spend.
Such a shame that the Tories can only offer cuts which result in bloated debt levels.
