Went into school for an assembly on our school's Christmas jumper day & one of the staff had a jumper dress on & boot style shoes (photos attached from a website so not actual staff member).

Aibu in thinking that it isn't really appropriate) practical for school when you're teaching small children?

I know "clothes are clothes" & all that but can't help feeling this was a bit much.

Yeah because all the little kids will be distracted,

Seriously get a grip.

I hate to ask as it's an easy fall back, but I can only assume you're either someone who is so prudish they think that every teacher should dress like miss jean Brodie or you're jealous of this woman as you perceived her to be attractive.

My mum used to teach in leggings, tie-dye top and crazy coloured shoes. Managed to get an awful lot of students through their A level equivalent studies back in the Netherlands and never had any discipline issues either.

Maybe people like OP should start looking less at appearances and more at substance.

Depends on how long it is, and possibly what class she teaches. If it's short and she teaches Reception and Year 1 so she has to keep bending over those teeny tiny chairs and squatting down, maybe not. Otherwise, probably OK.

I think we'd have to bet she looked great,,,and hence the issue..😄

In fairness the model is stood in a really weird position.

Expect the dress is only just above the knee. Perfectly fine

As she really wearing it with bare legs? Absolutely fine with thick tights or leggings. Bit cold with bare legs but not too shocking.

I think it's a but inappropriate to be honest. It's not exactly professional. However if she was wearing thick tights or leggings I think it would probably be ok

The only time I notice what my kids' teachers are wearing is to marvel at the fact the Head manages to spend her entire life in really high heels and wonder how the hell she can walk at the end of a day in school! (Then she admitted she keeps trainers in her desk drawer as a fall-back option)

I'm inclined to agree bluntness.

However, I've seen some colleagues look great in outfits that aren't professional dress appropriate for working in a school. They look really good, but it's better suited to evening drinks with friends than teaching secondary and in the event a fire drill you've got 2 flights of stairs to navigate with 1500-2000 students in order to stand on the field.

Sometimes people do misjudge things, though a Christmas jumper dress and boots probably wouldn't be the case

The smile on that model's lips suggests she was standing over a heating vent that's been photoshopped out later.

Otherwise, too cold for comfort, I'd say!

Oh blah. We can't police what teachers wear. Also I like that dress. Link? Xmas Grin

Ok, I'm not ordinarily prudish but maybe it's creeping in as I'm getting older.

No tights, very similar dress & yes short enough that someone said they'd seen her knickers (no idea though & they could have just been being dramatic).

If I'd have seen her on a night out I'd have said she looked great (she did) but that's not the issue. Other staff members had jeggings, flat boots & regular Christmas jumper - they also looked great. 🤷‍♀️

Is the teacher taller than the model?

The shoes are an odd choice but a jumper dress is hardly inappropriate unless she's flashing her knickers or something?

Agree Christmas jumper dress and boots wouldn't usually Be inappropriate wear and it looks nice. Unless her arse was hanging out. It would be fine, And I doubt it.

My money is on the woman was younger/slimmer/more attractive and looked good, so the op was pissed off about it and wanted her to dress more prudishly and so she didn't stand out.

I never under stand why women feel the need to attack other women for their appearance and can't control it. 99 times out of a hundred it comes down to low self esteem and or envy, seldom is it what it is dressed up to be, like in this instance, dressed up as concern for the little kids.

Who was that then, another bitchy mum?

Without tights it wouldn't be my choice for work, but unless she's wearing something barely covering her bum then it's up to her.

To be honest the "someone says they've seen her knickers" sounds like a bitchy parents in the playground comment rather than statement of fact.

It is not appropriate. Had that been at the school (Primary) where I teach, she would have been told to go home and change.

Meh ds2 nursery teacher wears short leather mini skirts (with black tights granted but they are very short and very tight) with fabulous tops and trowels on the make up. The effect is fantastic , she looks funky and trendy.

All I care about is whether ds2 likes her and progresses.

Now if you'll excuse me i am off to a care home having put my 40 year old self in leather trousers (and work appropriate rollneck and blazer ....do hope the Pearl's don't break with the clutching )

Without tights, definitely a bit much, especially as most of the teachers at ds2's old school were very active in their teaching- reaching up, crouching down etc.

No-one wants to see their teacher's knickers imo.

Crickey you should have been at my primary school in 1972. The height (quite literally) of the mini skirt, hot pants and see through blouses.

It's just legs? It's not like she's showing her boobs off Confused most teachers I know wore skirts/dresses with heels in school - although I don't know how she wasn't freezing without tights
