To think Andy Burnham should be the next Labour leader?

Think he would be great and Labour would become much more electable under him than what they ever have been under Corbyns leadership.

Who do you all think will get the job?

Hes mayor of Manchester and we need him. Hes not an MP. I don't think hes anywhere near running for leader of the opposition. Its like wishing they'd elected David instead of Ed Miliband. O for a time machine eh?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 13/12/2019 21:55

But he's not an MP somehow.does that work?

ginghambox · 13/12/2019 21:56

Joint leadership. Rebecca Long - Bailey and her eyebrows.

peppaw · 13/12/2019 21:57

I really wish he could run for leadership, he'd be great Sad

sue51 · 13/12/2019 21:57

He's not eligible.

MairzyDoats · 13/12/2019 21:59

In that case I want Hugh Grant to run.

Zoecarter · 13/12/2019 22:00

I wanted Andy burnham when Corbyn got in 😔😔

Gilead · 13/12/2019 22:02

Keir Starmer.

midnightmisssuki · 13/12/2019 22:02

He’s not eligible.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 13/12/2019 22:19

But he's not an MP
What are the Labour Party rules for Leader, anyone know? The Conservative Party definitely require the Leader to be an MP, as do the LibDems (hence Jo Swinson having to resign as leader), but Greens (Lucas is but Bartley isn’t), Brexit, PlaidCymru, UKIP don’t. But I can’t see anything stating that’s the rule under Labour, presumably to have the rule would give the position integrity, but is it their rule?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 13/12/2019 22:24

How can you have an opposition leader who isnt an MP? Can non MPs sit in the HoC? Can they participate in debates, prime minister's questions etc? How would that all work if not an MP?

Andysbestadventure · 13/12/2019 22:28

He could win a seat again in a bi-election or something maybe 🤷‍♀️

Burnham was supposed to be leader. And he'd be PM now if Momentum didn't exist.

Sadly I think he's happy enough treading water in Manchester for the rest of his career. Though from what I know from friends there he doesn't proactively do much rather he just keep things ticking over.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 13/12/2019 22:30

Yes, of course it is different for the official opposition as opposed to the other parties,, but my question is, do they actually have this ‘rule’ because I can’t find anywhere that actually states they do (unlike the others)

dontcallmeduck · 13/12/2019 22:31

He’s great at photo opportunities up here but can’t see what else he’s done really. There seems to be even more homelessness and begging on the streets despite that being top of his agendA

ManonBlackbeak · 13/12/2019 22:32

YANBU he did a lot for the Hillsborough families.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 13/12/2019 22:33

Yes please, I like looking at him.

NationMcKinley · 13/12/2019 22:35

I thought he was great too. Also like Keir Starmer a lot.

1Morewineplease · 13/12/2019 22:42

No. Keir Starmer or Stephen Kinnock.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/12/2019 22:45

I’m sure a seat could be found for him

I think he would have a broad support

I prefer Keir Starmer

Next leader will be chosen by Momentum just so they can fuck the party up a bit more

RosaDiaz99 · 13/12/2019 22:45

I think we all need to accept that before Corbyn leaves, he and his cronies will fix the system so that only a Corbynite can win.

And remember, these Corbynites see even Angela Rayner as too 'soft left.'

It's going to be Rebecca Wrong-Daily. She's the only one that Corbyn's lot see as sufficiently 'pure'. Mainly because she has no original thoughts of her own.

peppaw · 13/12/2019 22:46

Somebody please tell me there isn't any chance McDonnell could be in the running.

OP posts:
peppaw · 13/12/2019 22:47

I wouldn't mind Angela Rayner

OP posts:
BrickTop999 · 13/12/2019 22:48

Keir Starmer - I knew him from CPS as DPP

Im Tory but Keir would make a fantastic labour leader and he does not suffer fools

Abbott needs to go

SentimentalKiller · 13/12/2019 22:49

I would mind Angela Rayner after her fawning over Lily Madigan
I want someone who knows what female is

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/12/2019 22:52

or Stephen Kinnock.

God no. Too tainted by his father anyway, the press would rip him to shreds.
