The school denied them crackers

Primary school had a fake vote yesterday (only KS2 voted)

They voted in majority for the Green Party...

Today was Christmas dinner and Christmas jumper today.

Usually they get crackers with their dinners but were told today that because over half of them voted in the Green Party they wouldn't be getting crackers with their dinner.

Aibu to think the school shouldn't have done this? Seems a bit mean to me 🤷‍♀️

Bet you could a DM sad face story out of it! 😂

ScrimshawTheSecond · 13/12/2019 22:44

Oh, those kind of crackers. I had a long confused bit where I thought you meant Jacob's cream crackers.

I don't think withholding the info is helpful - they should have maybe said - vote Green, you'll help save the planet but have to forego some shite plastic toy.

MoaningMinniee · 13/12/2019 22:44

Coming very late to the party... I'm very proud of both my daughters and my soon to be DIL and SIL. All of whom are amazingly brilliant and wonderful Climate Change Lets Not Spread Plastic Shit People.

Scrooge1234 · 13/12/2019 22:45

Maybe would have landed better if The school had given them pros and cons for each party

So vote green and you'll not have crackers because...

Vote Tory and you'll not have dessert and the first aid kit will be sold to the school down the road because

Vote labour and you'll have a day off because....

Then let the kids decide

But this was a kind of half arsed lesson which left kids feeling guilty

I bet they forgot to buy them and used it as an excuse!

Quartz2208 · 13/12/2019 22:47

It’s brilliant they did the right thing (voting to save the planet) and now recognise that doing the right thing has consequences

Crackers are an awful thing for the environment that 2 secs later end up on landfill

Scrooge1234 · 13/12/2019 22:47

@AutumnRose1 this is exactly the kind of shit story DM love isn't it? 😂 I did think about it but I thought I'd put it to the MN panel first...

Not going to lie I was so confused reading this because I thought you meant crackers as in the food and I was like wtf 😂

OrlandoInTheWilderness · 13/12/2019 22:48

That is brilliant!

Scrooge1234 · 13/12/2019 22:49

@avacadooo 😂 ha sorry... I still don't know how else I could have worded it... maybe I should have said 'Christmas crackers' ha

@Catrescue1971 yes wouldn't surprise me 😂

@treeglass, same! No wonder this post made no sense! Grin

GoodDogBellaBoo · 13/12/2019 22:59

School did the right thing. It’s the small things that cause landfill, and this was something they (and more importantly you) will remember.

1Morewineplease · 13/12/2019 22:59

We don’t need crackers ( unless they’re topped with the finest Shropshire Blue) as they are an utter waste. The wrapping is usually unrecyclable , the hats become waste , as does the gift , which is usually a piece of rubbish.
Yes they’re fun , but at least let’s just have them on Christmas Day with our families.
A three class intake of a primary school will produce around 630 crackers, all consigned to to bin.
Our school does not do crackers, primarily due to cost but also due to unnecessary waste.

Have your crackers on Christmas Day.

Knowhowufeel · 13/12/2019 23:00

Omg! Think I need to sleep. It took me over 10 posts to wonder why they weren't allowed crackers with their food, and how they related that to choosing an eco party BlushXmas Blush. I was thinking about ritz or cream crackers, then it suddenly dawned on me that you probably meant Christmas crackers!!HmmXmas Hmm

Scrooge1234 · 13/12/2019 23:02

@1Morewineplease agreed on them being a total waste. Pretty sure this school was planning on doing them but as a consequence to voting green they yesterday they didn't.

Swirlygirl · 13/12/2019 23:03

I don’t want politics in school. It’s not about crackers it’s about some teacher selling their views to young children whilst they should be learning the fundamentals of education.

isitpossibleto · 13/12/2019 23:03

If this is the worst thing that will ever happen to them....

JeffreeStar · 13/12/2019 23:04

Crackers need to be banned. They end up in landfill

HomelessnessIsABigIssue · 13/12/2019 23:04

:( so the school have sent the message never to vote green again as you won't have any fun if they r in. Could t they all havemade crackers from recycled paper (bring in old magazines and newspapers for example) instead?

MintyMabel · 13/12/2019 23:05

think it's just the way It was made out like it was the ones who voted fault...

It was. They should be happy about that, if they voted for the Green Party.

Scrooge1234 · 13/12/2019 23:08

@MintyMabel would have been better all round to give them all the pros and cons. My dd is no Greta but she is aware and concerned of environmental issues so she would have understood and I'm pretty sure the kids would have thought about coming up with an environmentally friendly alternative if they were given the chance.. would have taught them that they can be environmentally conscious and still make things fun

OP posts:
Scrooge1234 · 13/12/2019 23:09

@HomelessnessIsABigIssue my point exactly

Make it into a positive, it's not that hard

OP posts:
Scrooge1234 · 13/12/2019 23:11

@Swirlygirl yep. If the election wasn't when it was then the kids would have had their Xmas crackers and that would have been that.

OP posts:
Scrooge1234 · 13/12/2019 23:17

@JeffreeStar agree but in this case the crackers were still purchased and will still end up in landfill. I would have no problem if the school just didn't do it for the environment but it wasn't for that purpose. It caused my girl to regret voting green however I want to encourage her to be resourceful with it rather than it be a fun suck
