I was thinking of buy my 30 year old daughter a nice ballpoint pen for Christmas, my OH says youngsters don’t use them these days. Is he right? Don’t want to waste my money.

@memaymamo I use the dishwasher which dries dishes for me. I use the silicone oven mits. I have a dishcloth for spills and a toilet with hand soap and a hand towel next to the kitchen, and so don’t have any use for a tea towel.

How did this get to be about teatowels 😂 It was just an example of something that I wouldn't be excited by, but do use, and so would just stick into the general rotation. If you're not excited by a pen, but do use pens, then it's in the same category for you as a teatowel is for me. Yes, like you I might be sad that unnecessary money has been spent, but I wouldn't actively dislike the gift.

Sorry, that was to Shirley.

I was given a Mont Blanc pen by my boss 22 years ago. I use it every day and still love it

I am in my 40s and still treasure a pen I got in my 30s

Keep in my bag and makes me smile and think of the person who bought it when I use it

@Maykid

A nice ballpoint pen? As a 'stocking filler' (aka a little gift that isn't terribly important if she doesn't like it,) YES.

For a main gift? No.

I would only get this as an additional 'extra.'

For my 30th my mother bought me a vintage Mont Blanc. It is one of my most treasured possessions and I use it everyday because it's a pen and even if I'm just jotting down quick notes, it makes it special. More so since she died. Do it.

I have a gorgeous Montblanc pen. 13 years, still going strong.

Dh was given a REALLY expensive pen which was complete waste on him,I was given one by my dad on my birthday and I LOVE it. You're either a pen person or you aren't.

Namelessinseattle · 11/12/2019 23:44

My dh and I have Mont Blancs and use them for writing cards, and invites and the odd letter. For important writing occasions Grin I love mine even though it's only used a few times a year.

I’m around 30 and I love nice pens! I have a few one at home, one in my bag and a couple at work

I am almost 30 and I'd love this as a present! There is an Italian company called Montegrappa which does really nice ones, ballpoint as well as fountain. My dad got me a goldy one for my 21st birthday and I still have it - I keep it on my desk at work as a nice pen for signing and writing cards and things. I like to imagine that it makes me look classy Wink
