To think that the woman next to me on the train is judging me...

....for eating my dinner! (Leon chicken satay box, not very stinky). She keeps side-eyeing me every time I take a mouthful. Am also a tweny by it tipsy after post off-site drinks. It's been a looooong day ( up v early for train to London then full day of meetings).
She's going to be even more enraged when I get the mince pie dessert out in a minute! Grin

"I was on the Orient Express the other day and this absolute melt sat next to me eating a fucking five course meal! Can you imagine?!*

Ah this explains the murder then.

Dolorabelle · 10/12/2019 20:46

Erm those of you telling me to have a Snickers or saying that I am rude/entitled clearly never travel long distances for work

Yes, that's what I was thinking.

Most of the British population does not live in London - we travel quite long distances, and we need to eat properly. Not a Snickers bar (horrible fat-filled yuk).

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 10/12/2019 20:46

I am loads of fun @beautifulstranger101 - you are very perceptive! 😂

For those who say the only opportunity they have is to eat on the train, you don't have to eat hot, smelly food. They are not the only repasts.

I hate noisy eaters. So many train eaters are noisy eaters.

JaceLancs · 10/12/2019 20:48

I don’t understand the horror about food on trains
I travel occasionally to London for work and always book at a time when I get cheap first class return so I can enjoy meal and a few drinks
I was gutted a while ago when they stopped offering a port option with the cheese and biscuits and now only get 2 drinks unless you get v friendly waiting staff

NoSauce · 10/12/2019 20:48

Eating on public transport is grim.

andpancakesforbreakfast · 10/12/2019 20:48

we travel quite long distances, and we need to eat properly.

some of us manage to do that across countries and still not stink the place up...

MonstranceClock · 10/12/2019 20:50

If you don’t like it, it’s tough shit. People are perfectly entitled to eat what they like on a train that allows food. I find the smell of coffee repulsive, but I’m not so entitled to think that other people shouldn’t be having it.

andpancakesforbreakfast · 10/12/2019 20:50

If you thought it was such a natural and basic thing to do, you wouldn't have felt the need to start a thread about it... Says it all really. You do know, but you pretend you are better than anyone else.

LH1987 · 10/12/2019 20:51

I get grumpy because every time I'm on a diet there is always someone sitting next to me on a train with something delicious such as burger king. In this case I would be giving you dirty looks Grin. She might just be hungry!

To everyone criticising the OP, the train buffet cart serves hot food, so I think its perfectly acceptable to eat your dinner! (Obviously don't start peeling boiled eggs or open a can of tuna. If you are able to coherently type a message then you are not an annoying drunk. Merry Christmas.

dontalltalkatonce · 10/12/2019 20:51

Yum! Sounds great. Outside MN, most people don't give a fuck. Nothing 'anti-social' about it. Of course, if you've even sniffed a thimble of sherry and admit it on MN, you're also 'pissed'. It's hilarious! It's like an eating thread on speed.

One memorable thread featured a poster telling someone others should only eat 'a polite sandwich' on trains, no matter how far they were travelling, or rice, crisps, fruit or cake (the poster was diabetic so none of those foods suited).

Surprised we haven't have vom emoticons.

Enjoy your food, OP.

andpancakesforbreakfast · 10/12/2019 20:52

just become you physically or legally can doesn't mean you should MonstranceClock, basic manners and all that...

dontalltalkatonce · 10/12/2019 20:52

Maybe she's enjoying a few laughs from pearl-clutchers after a bevvie or two Grin.

LolaSmiles · 10/12/2019 20:52

The food they sell on long-distance trains isn't what I'd call edible food, likely to sustain one after a long day, and on a 3 hour trip
100% agree
But the fact they sell food means that it's clearly ok to eat.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/12/2019 20:52

Outside MN, most people don't give a fuck. clearly that isn’t true or passengers on the OP’s train wouldn’t be side-eyeing her!

Skysblue · 10/12/2019 20:53

Maybe it’s not stinky to you but it is to her. She’s not ‘judging’ you, she’s trying to discreetly draw your attention to the fact that you’re being antisocial and selfish and stinking up the train. Also, if she happens to be pregnant she’ll have a very sensitive nose and the smell might be making her feel sick. Eat in the station and get a later train or eat earlier at your desk or whatever but don’t inflict your stench on others in a confined space then be amazed when they aren’t overjoyed about it.

Shelvesoutofbooks · 10/12/2019 20:53

I haven't read the whole thread so don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but there is a facebook group with members that take pictures of people eating on train, then post it and make fun of them.

dontalltalkatonce · 10/12/2019 20:53

just become you physically or legally can doesn't mean you should MonstranceClock, basic manners and all that...

Please, crack on, Monstrance, just to wind people like this up! SO worth it!

Pinkblueberry · 10/12/2019 20:54

She’s hungry and jealous.

andpancakesforbreakfast · 10/12/2019 20:55

Outside MN, most people don't give a fuck.
Grin Grin Grin

I love that "only on MN" nonsense Grin when posters are outraged that someone might not share their views

dontalltalkatonce · 10/12/2019 20:55

but there is a facebook group with members that take pictures of people eating on train, then post it and make fun of them.

But, what if they're disabled, or pregnant or diabetic or hypoglycaemic and need to eat? Hmm Shock. You know, consideration goes both ways.

dontalltalkatonce · 10/12/2019 20:56

Not at all 'outraged', find it amusing, mildly. Grin

Knowhowufeel · 10/12/2019 20:56

God, people on here are so judgemental and offended by everything (obviously)!

Enjoy yourself, OP! As long as you're not screaming, shouting, playing music/videos loudly, or farting, crack on.Wink

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 10/12/2019 20:56

Spot on @dontalltalkatonce - didn't expect this many replies and this has certainly brightened up my trip - thankyou ladies (and gents?)

BTW the woman is most definitely not pregnant. Well into her 50's.

OP posts:
andpancakesforbreakfast · 10/12/2019 20:57

when you accuse someone of pearl clutching because the smell of your food makes them feel sick, you can't talk about consideration can you Smile
