To think that the woman next to me on the train is judging me...

....for eating my dinner! (Leon chicken satay box, not very stinky). She keeps side-eyeing me every time I take a mouthful. Am also a tweny by it tipsy after post off-site drinks. It's been a looooong day ( up v early for train to London then full day of meetings).
She's going to be even more enraged when I get the mince pie dessert out in a minute! Grin

As long as its not a hard boiled egg eh! (remembering the thread from a few weeks ago)

NoHummus · 10/12/2019 20:31

Grin at "off-site drinks" - do you mean you went to the pub? Wink

Yerbumsootthewindae · 10/12/2019 20:31

Ooh I love a train picnic, it's the best thing about a long journey - enjoy!

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 10/12/2019 20:31

Haha
I am with you OP

Safe travels . Smile

Mlou32 · 10/12/2019 20:33

I wouldn't be happy if someone sat next to me munching on some smelly takeaway. I thought it was just etiquette not to take such food on a train?

singymummy · 10/12/2019 20:33

Haha!
so what if people are judging you? Sod 'em.

I used to constantly travel for work and the only time I could eat was on trains and buses.

It's not like it's 7:30am and you're eating last nights curry for breakfast Grin

Dolorabelle · 10/12/2019 20:33

Ah well you judgy people can all fuck off as you're jealous of my Leon dinner!

I'm with you, OP - after a long day (catching a train at 6:30 means getting up at 5:15am in my neck of the woods) of meetings with an early start and not on a train home till after 7pm, and not home till after 10pm, I eat my supper on the train.

Last week, I picked up a chicken curry from Wasabi. Yum.

Swimmum78 · 10/12/2019 20:33

They do actually serve food on trains so what’s the big deal! Loads of people eat on Trains. Never even knew this was a thing people thought you shouldn’t do. Shock horror they even serve alcohol on them.

Purplecatshopaholic · 10/12/2019 20:34

Sounds perfectly normal behaviour to me op. Haven’t done it recently but certainly have in the past! Enjoy!

ShirleyPhallus · 10/12/2019 20:34

I found a really good Indian take away near Preston Station so I used to buy a meal when changing trains there.

That is absolutely rank and totally unnecessary

Littlemeadow123 · 10/12/2019 20:35

OP, just focusing on getting home and sobering up.

SnorkMaiden81 · 10/12/2019 20:35

YABU there's nothing worse than someone obnoxiously chowing down on hot, stinky food in a public place.

Unless there's a medical reason to be infecting other people's air with your stinky food on a train, don't. It's common.

Hungry? Have a Snickers. Ugh.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 10/12/2019 20:36

@messolini9 ahahaha, lovely

QuestionableMouse · 10/12/2019 20:38

What a bunch of miserable fuckers.

Hope you enjoyed your meal op.

MonstranceClock · 10/12/2019 20:38

I usually have sushi on the train! Yummy smelly fish.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/12/2019 20:39

I'm a fan of a salmon sandwich on a long train journey. Maybe throw in some sushi. Minimises the risk of someone sitting next to me....

Someone was eating an orange near me on the train the other day. There is nothing worse. I feel salmon is fair game 😂

andpancakesforbreakfast · 10/12/2019 20:39

Is anyone genuinely so entitled they can't comprehend how rude and antisocial it is to eat stinky food on public transport?

I can only hope someone with enough motion sickness will start puking and put you off the rest of your meal, it's truly disgusting.

There was someone doing her nails during the other day, I think I still prefer her to someone with stinky food.

LolaSmiles · 10/12/2019 20:40

I always thought it's standard to eat on longer distance trains, but not so cool to do it on commuter trains.

Given you can buy food on LNER trains and some of them are 3-4hour journeys, you'd have to be uptight to have an issue with food - unless it's especially smelly or loud to eat.

John470322 · 10/12/2019 20:40

@posterFreeshavocado what is the Indian takeaway called? I commute through Preston a lot Misses point of thread I can't remember the name of the take away. I've looked at Google maps and still can't remember. My parents both died in the 1990s so it was a while ago.

Adenosine · 10/12/2019 20:41

Yabu OP. It's people like you who put the rest of us off public transport.

I was on the Orient Express the other day and this absolute melt sat next to me eating a fucking five course meal! Can you imagine?! She even had booze with it. Such lower class behaviour. I won't be doing that journey again in a hurry, let me tell you.

penberrh · 10/12/2019 20:41

Totally normal - it's prime office Christmas party season. Anyone clutching pearls at that needs to have a Long Hard Think.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 10/12/2019 20:43

Erm those of you telling me to have a Snickers or saying that I am rude/entitled clearly never travel long distances for work. Nearly everyone is eating -it's dinner time! I would literally starve if I never ate on a train for a London trip. This morning was Starbucks porridge. Anyone offended by that?!

FriedEggs1 · 10/12/2019 20:43

Give me a wave when you land at Leeds OP. I can see the station entrance from up here 😁

beautifulstranger101 · 10/12/2019 20:44

OP- I think you sound fun! Enjoy your mince pie. If she's that bothered by it, she can move.

Dolorabelle · 10/12/2019 20:44

The food they sell on long-distance trains isn't what I'd call edible food, likely to sustain one after a long day, and on a 3 hour trip.

And I too want to know the name of the Indian near Preston Station - I have spent hours of my life waiting at that station for trains that might arrive. Or might not.

I cheered when I heard Virgin lost the West Coast contract ...
