....for eating my dinner! (Leon chicken satay box, not very stinky). She keeps side-eyeing me every time I take a mouthful. Am also a tweny by it tipsy after post off-site drinks. It's been a looooong day ( up v early for train to London then full day of meetings).
She's going to be even more enraged when I get the mince pie dessert out in a minute! Grin

I travel hundreds of miles to London for work quite often, and always take a 'polite' picnic (I pack it for lunch but eat it at late-breakfast time), and I think your dinner sounds lovely.

My only terrible experience came when a man sat next to me just as the train was about to leave London (I thought I'd got 2 seats to myself, but no), got out a Tupperware box of salad, and then proceeded to open a tin of sardines and tip them over the top. There was some side-eye going on there, I can tell you. The smell was beyond disgusting. Train was packed or I would have moved.

dontalltalkatonce · 10/12/2019 21:14

Well, Gold, I am outside of Glasgow and I can already smell that pizza! It reeks. I am so offended. You are SO rude! Such a minger!

beautifulstranger101 · 10/12/2019 21:17

Why are people getting so angry about food on trains when trains actually SELL FOOD TO EAT (including alcohol!) on the train.
Some of the trains Ive been on have been disgusting- they are so filthy and gross they may as well just line the carriages with straw. Thats what you get when you go on public transport: filthy seats and other people. Dont like it? can't deal with it? then get a bloody taxi instead.
I dont know how such people cope with life if they're fainting and vomiting at the mere sight of another person eating. Good grief.

RougeVinEtFromage · 10/12/2019 21:19

Fun fact OP - a few months ago I was LNER from Leeds to London and was have a pissed up M&S picnic. The lady had a Pomeranian on the next bank of seats that literally growled every time I ate. I ended up sharing the lot with it.

OlaEliza · 10/12/2019 21:20

Never understood the hate for eating on trains. I used to love a mcds on my way home out of Liverpool Street.

Not so much delice de france, they don't sell anything that tastes like the smell they pumped out.

dontalltalkatonce · 10/12/2019 21:21

Because, beautiful! When other people eat in public they are always rude, chomping, slurping, guzzling, gobbling and disgusting. You are not supposed to eat, speak above a whisper, wear or use anything scented at all ever (although you must always be freshly showered and hair washed and people can smell your bra if you have worn it more than once).

selmabear · 10/12/2019 21:23

I dont care for the reasoning behind her needing to stare, you just don't do it.

CherryPavlova · 10/12/2019 21:24

I think eating on trains is generally antisocial and particularly so if you are sitting next to someone or immediately across from someone. Definitely I’d judge if it cannot be eaten with fingers or left anything over. Old banana skins, apple cores, chicken bones all revolting to look at. Smelling pungent foods is horrid. Coffee OK. A biscuit OK. A sandwich just about OK. A curry, noodles, burgers, anything particularly garlicky just not OK.
You wouldn’t eat on a bus, in your bedroom or in your car so why is it acceptable on a train? Selfish not to consider impact on others.

Goldrill · 10/12/2019 21:24

Well, dammit, dontalltalk; it was going to be a margherita but I feel I now have to go full minger. The marinara with extra garlic it is.
I have to do the cross-glasgow station shimmy also so may have to keep an eye out for a Very Noisy Thing for pudding.

Stupiddriver1 · 10/12/2019 21:24

Of course you can eat a meal on a long train journey. On occasion when I’ve traveled first class they serve a hot meal to you. So a fry up for breakfast....I had a roast dinner in the evening last week. It all smells a bit I guess.

Goldrill · 10/12/2019 21:26

... I would definitely eat a burger in my car also...

andpancakesforbreakfast · 10/12/2019 21:26

it's not the sight, it's the noise and the SMELL.

Thats what you get when you go on public transport: filthy seats and other people. well, quite, and it's attitude like some of you that are the exact reason why. Isn't it rather pathetic that no one cares?

It's truly fascinating that expecting people to also be quiet is such a laughing matter for some. Why are people so angry and bitter nowadays that they really enjoy making life a misery for everyone else?

Yes, eat, drink, take your shoes off, talk on your phone loudly, of course you can. Why on earth should you care about anyone else than you? What a miserable way to be.

MonstranceClock · 10/12/2019 21:27

I eat in all of those places 🤷🏻‍♀️

jcurve · 10/12/2019 21:28

I had a woman sit next to me on a BA flight from Madrid and crack open a Burger King. I thought that was pretty grim, particularly as I’d never realised how bad Burger King smelt til I was stuck in a metal tube with no means of escape. She worked for Amazon, according to her laptop.

Stupiddriver1 · 10/12/2019 21:28

I also eat in all of those places.

MonstranceClock · 10/12/2019 21:29

The ones enjoying a meal aren’t the miserable ones pancake

dontalltalkatonce · 10/12/2019 21:31

What a miserable way to be.

It's wonderful, actually, book a window seat at a table, crack open a meal, one of those wee bottles of wine or can of G&T, slip off your shoes under the table. Nothing angry or bitter about it. Virgin West Coast line has fold down trays in even the ordinary seat backs now, perfect for a nibble and catching up on Netflix . . .

OlaEliza · 10/12/2019 21:32

I've eaten a mcds in bed. I'm a slattern 🤷

halloumi2019 · 10/12/2019 21:32

I don’t mind people eating food on trains as long as the food doesn’t smell awful. Think fish. Note, I don’t mean any odour at all is a problem, just unpleasant odours.

MargotB7 · 10/12/2019 21:33

I'm so happy that I work 2 minutes from home and don't have to spend time with the public every day.

I hope you enjoyed your food and feeling tipsy I did think "Girl On The Train".

No judgement from me though as enjoying a mid week drink and a dairylea dunker.

Illeana · 10/12/2019 21:34

This is exactly why I don’t use public transport (unless I’m going to London and have no choice). People are disgusting.

Elderflower14 · 10/12/2019 21:34

I always get people eating sushi next to me on the train. 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮
Many years ago I had my much missed Bumbledog on the train with me.. We were in an airline seat with a lady eating sushi... He watched every mouthful going on. He then crawled into the aisle and watched the woman on the other side eating her ploughman's... He then followed me to the toilet and then to his delight and my absolute horror he spotted the buffet trolley and charged down the aisle after it.... I think everyone was glad when we got off! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Sarcelle · 10/12/2019 21:34

Feet smells now adding to the stink. Ew.

SgtFredColon · 10/12/2019 21:34

You wouldn’t eat on a bus, in your bedroom or in your car

I would!

SgtFredColon · 10/12/2019 21:35

I wouldn’t eat on the bus into town alright but I eat in my bedroom loads!
