To be bored sh*tless of "look at BoJos lies" threads

otterturk · 10/12/2019 15:42

Not a fan of Boris. Not a Tory bot.

There seems to be another "look at my dossier"/"read this article"/"read these lies!" Thread every 4.5 seconds. I'm bored to the point of losing the plot over this.

Again, not a Boris fan but I like to think that people can educate themselves without yet another bloody thread implying they're deluded or living under a bush?

Bore off. Please. We can all read without your helpful suggestions.

AIBU?

It bothers me that Boris lies. It bothers me that Corbyn has allowed antisemitism to fester. It bothers me that Swinson can't even tell us what a women is. Not enough space for Greens/Brexit/the rest (sorry, based in England so not much interest in nationalist parties I can't vote for).

Debate is good. Endless threads essentially saying "look what I found! You're a racist/imbecile if you don't change your vote because of my thing" when so many others exist are what specifically annoy me right now - on Mumsnet. This is about Mumsnet, not life.

OP posts:
Helmetbymidnight · 10/12/2019 16:08

are we allowed to discuss some of the disgusting crap boris has said or done or will that bore your intellectual-self shitless, op?

PrettyShiningPeople · 10/12/2019 16:09

I don’t know why Labour voters are always so desperate to convince everyone else that they are right.
Not a Tory either, usually vote Lib Dem but won’t be voting for them this time.

The reason it’s so tiresome is that the people who call out lies are usually found to be stretching the truth themselves.

MustardScreams · 10/12/2019 16:09

Because people can post whatever they want?

I for one am glad of the threads pointing out how despicable Tories are. Even if it changes one person’s mind it’s enough. I’m relying on the NHS to help me get rid of cancer, and I certainly do not trust a Tory government to keep me alive to see my 3 year old grow up.

otterturk · 10/12/2019 16:10

@helme 🙄by all means. But can't it be done on one of the many, many existing threads?

OP posts:
Helmetbymidnight · 10/12/2019 16:11

i dont get why anything corbyn or swinson does, should stop us discussing what the pm has done and plans to do.

why on earth is it annoying you - i dont get it.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 10/12/2019 16:11

Love that bluebells thinks we must be momentum bots Smile I’m not a bot, not a member of momentum, I just don’t like people who think they can lie that much to so many people and get away with it.

I’ll still be here after the election Grin

angemorange · 10/12/2019 16:12

Didn't realise there was a specific number of threads allowed per topic?

(Personally I scroll past them if I don't want to read them).

Simkin · 10/12/2019 16:13

I just started one (probably the one you're talking about). I literally don't give a festering fuck if it bores you shitless or not.

It's difficult to know what to believe at the moment - fakery is everywhere. One thing you can be sure of - Boris Johnson lies. I think we should all me reminded of that fact as often as possible.

MustardScreams · 10/12/2019 16:13

@angemorange blimey, don’t start talking sense they won’t know what to do with themselves Grin

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 10/12/2019 16:13

Debate is good. Endless threads essentially saying "look what I found! You're a racist/imbecile if you don't change your vote because of my thing"

This is indeed incredibly tedious and I can't imagine anyone has rocked back on their heels and thought "WOW, now I have been called a racist cunt/communist moron/whatever, I'll DEFINITELY change my vote, thanks random internet stranger!"

Helmetbymidnight · 10/12/2019 16:13

so will i- ill be discussing boris's fuck-ups as long as he makes them.

its bewildering that people are annoyed that they are being discussed.

SinglePringle · 10/12/2019 16:14

When even Tory Grandee’s are saying he’s a liar and unworthy of votes, you’ve got to listen. Not that I’d ever vote Tory anyway.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 10/12/2019 16:15

Although op I do completely agree with your last post. People saying “you must be heartless/thick/a Nazi/a raging anti-Semite to vote for X” doesn’t achieve anything and makes the whole atmosphere around these threads unbearable. I’ve probably been guilty of it too in the face of goady posters, but all it does it divide. We’ve got to live with each other after this election, however it goes, and we’ve got to understand that people have many valid reasons for their vote and we can’t force them to see our point of view. Love and peace etc etc Smile

MustardScreams · 10/12/2019 16:15

It’s not the staunch tories that need persuading, we already know they’re dead inside and don’t care if a homeless person collapsed in front of them. It’s the people who might vote for Conservatives because of Brexit.

PerkingFaintly · 10/12/2019 16:17

Johnson has stood in front of the press he brought with him to his press opportunity in a hospital, and said, "There's no press here."

Many politicians spin, or are economical with the truth, or tell occasional lies if they think they won't get caught.

Looking people in the eye and lying to them, knowing they know you're lying, is a whole other ballgame.

For people who haven't been following this, the purpose of Trump's egregious lying isn't primarily to get people to genuinely believe his stories; it's to get them to publicly put allegiance to him above the evidence of their own senses.

Johnson is doing the same thing. He essentially says, "Who you gonna believe: me or your lying eyes."

It a tool of totalitarians. It binds people to The Leader and unmoors them from using their own judgment.

AlexaShutUp · 10/12/2019 16:19

You're fed up of seeing too many threads about BJ's lies...

...so you decided to start another thread about them?

Makes sense.Confused

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 10/12/2019 16:19

so will i- ill be discussing boris's fuck-ups as long as he makes them.

Will you (general you, not just the pp I handily quote) also be discussing Jeremy's and Jo's, and all the rests, fuck-ups too? Or just selectively for the person you don't like? Nobody can be so naive as to believe any candidate is perfection in human form?

I can understand being bored with politics as it seems to be a never ending shit show. But I'm saddened by how blase we have all become about having lying incompetence in power.

Iggly · 10/12/2019 16:21

Yabu

For a start Boris is off the scale when it comes to lies.

Second of all, he’s the Prime Minister. He should conduct himself in a better fashion. I certainly don’t remember Theresa May bullshitting to this extent.

Helmetbymidnight · 10/12/2019 16:24

ive been involved in politics - non partisan- for 30 yrs. you can scroll through my posts if youre bored. im not a fan of corbyn or swinson- but what we have with boris and this select group of brexiteering tories is off the scale in incompetence, stupidity, racism, privelege and deceit.

and nope, i dont expect to change your mind if you like him, or persuade you not to vote for them but it is important to talk about it, and it is important to track the gross cavalier way he treats the country.

myfuckingfreezer · 10/12/2019 16:25

Are you also upset about the number of parking threads? Of cheeky fucker threads? Or baby name, line eyes, work Xmas party, pregnancy symptom and DP is an asshole threads?

If so, I think forum life might not be for you.

TooTrueToBeGood · 10/12/2019 16:25

Probably for the same reason that their are so many people keen to tell us how spineless/marxist/indecisive/antisemitic etc Corbyn is. Neither candidate has much going (actually the square root of fuck all) for them so their supporters' only viable strategy is to slate the opponent. Hell will freeze over before I'd vote for a party led by either of them.

AuntSpiker · 10/12/2019 16:26

There's was an interesting thread overnight which was removed. It was someone posting what was clearly a made up story about the treatment of her child in A & E. It really made me think about the number of political threads on Mumsnet, and how many of them might have been started with the aim of trying to influence the voting public. Im sure it's happening (by both sides) but I'd love to know the extent of it.
