Let's look at the two issues here.
The child is being treated. Would it have been better to have him and his parents in the waiting room until a bed became available? If no bed then he should have been put in a comfy chair somewhere or his parents should have held him. What happened is the result of Leeds Teaching Hospitals centralising their children's A&E service from two hospitals in Leeds to just one. It's not all about lack of funds. It's about how you manage those funds.
I fully support the NHS. But it will always be a moneypit. That's the result of endless innovation and new treatments and drugs coming along. Coupled with a bigger and ageing population, no amount of money given to it will ever be enough. So choices have to be made by governments, by the hospital executives and by citizens. We all have a part to play. That includes all of us contributing more in taxes.
Boris's response was pretty poor indeed. He was caught on the hop and became flustered. It was not a good look. But also not a good look are the parents allowing their child's situation to be used by journalists and political parties to score points. Wasn't a complaint to the hospital enough? But I forgot their 15 minutes of fame was more important.
I'm not sure who I will vote, but my decision will not be based on a front page image of a sick child. I'm not that easily manipulated.
