I buy a few bottles at a time when I see it. Lovely with gin

hellswelshy · 08/12/2019 14:33

I love it too! It's a very Christmassy nostalgic item for me, dh doesn't understand, but it's lovely with lemonade and takes me straight back to the Christmases of the 80s GrinXmas Grin

Floralnomad · 08/12/2019 14:34

I’ve not had any trouble getting it in our local Tesco .

SamBeckett · 08/12/2019 14:35

I have no idea how I set up the voting on here I didn't mean to Confused

Have you been able to buy it easily recently ? for the past 3 months or so its not been stocked in any of my local ( NW England ) supermarkets .
A corner shop cottoned on to this and sold the last of their stock off at £4.50 a bottle !
Aldi's are selling it for £1.95

Is it significantly better than supermarket own?

SamBeckett · 08/12/2019 14:38

ha ha me too, my DM would put a few drops of Bitters in it too for me and DB as a treat but I love it with soda water now .

SamBeckett · 08/12/2019 14:41

IMO absolutely, all the supermarket ones are to sweet and synthetic tasting to me .
Roses actually taste like lime ( shock horror ! ) so it has a much 'cleaner' taste

DartmoorChef · 08/12/2019 14:42

@chocolatespiders it is significantly better than any other brand. It has no artificial sweeteners and no awful aftertaste.

Hirsutefirs · 08/12/2019 14:43

It brings on my asthma!

Drabarni · 08/12/2019 14:46

Oh, I love lime but not bothered which rand tbh, is roses better than the rest? Can't stand the sugar free stuff though.

MrsMouse03 · 08/12/2019 14:49

Our Tesco North wales seems to have plenty but I had problems getting it this time last year.

Planesmistakenforstars · 08/12/2019 14:49

I've never had any trouble getting it, it's always been available in Tesco. It's essential for making a Gimlet.

SamBeckett · 08/12/2019 14:55

Its strange that it has been available in some places but not others. From what I can remember there was a fire at the factory but that was ages ago ( there was a thread on here referring to it but I can't find it now )

@Planes , umm whats a Gimlet when its at home ?

OP posts:

dementedma · 08/12/2019 15:01

It has been harder to get, but not impossible. I'm in Scotland

Mistlewoeandwhine · 08/12/2019 15:18

It’s the only one which does not contain sweeteners so it is lovely.

mrsbyers · 08/12/2019 16:01

There was a short term problem due to a fire earlier in the year but it’s been widely available again for months - except Tesco’s have stopped selling it. I buy a bottle every week - one of the few drinks with no artificial sweetners

Likethebattle · 08/12/2019 16:04

We have never had any issues,DH buys two bottle a week to put into soda water .

MitziK · 08/12/2019 16:13

Gimlet - two parts Plymouth gin (or one part Navy Strength), one part lime cordial/syrup, soda water if liked. Served absolutely ice cold with a twist of lime.

SamBeckett · 08/12/2019 18:40

@MitziK thank you for the recipe unfortunately I do not like Gin ( ducks and hides to avoid the stares shot this way )

@Likethebattle , my local Tescos asda and morrisons have not sold it for ages , perhaps its just a lack of demand thing .

@mrsbyers I tend to shop at Tesco's more than anywhere else so that must be the issue .

I have just spoken to a friend who is delighted that it is available again as he likes it in coke ! Bloody odd imo

OP posts:

MitziK · 08/12/2019 18:45

You Heathen.

It could be done with vodka instead.

youwereagoodcakeclyde · 08/12/2019 18:51

When you are having a lime and soda water, you want the right lime cordial! 😄

SamBeckett · 08/12/2019 18:55

@MitziK oh this is not going well , I dont like vodka either ( considering hiding on the moon ) stout , mild and occasionally neat dark rum are my tipples .
I may try rum soda and lime for a longer drink . . . . . . . . . goes off to raid the drinks cupboard . . . . . .

fruitpastille · 08/12/2019 18:57

I must admit I've grown to like the tesco no added sugar one (in the tall Rose's shaped bottle) and I normally hate stuff with sweeteners.

SamBeckett · 08/12/2019 18:57

@youwereagoodcakeclyde , Well said ! inferior stuff just will not do Grin

OP posts:

MatildaJane · 08/12/2019 19:04

Yes I haven't been able to get Roses for about 4-5 months. And all the other brands are awful, hate to sweetener taste
