I went to a works Christmas do last night, drank too much and made a tit of myself.
I’m dreading going to work on Monday! AIBU to hand my notice in?! I can’t see another solution!! Help!

I tend to think farting at the table is towards the upper end. So if you can find another job then that would be best. But, truly, if not then you will be fine to face it out. Insouciance is the way to go!

theoriginalmadambee · 07/12/2019 16:13

@LazyDaisey oh it was (very junior etc) and yes the wife was not employed. Better to laugh it off than being insulted Smile. But not everybody in that business would have done that.

dementedma · 07/12/2019 16:17

And we wonder why people dont want to work in hospitality? Is it really normal for folking to be puking, stripping and shitting themselves at Christmas parties?
Been to many in my 50 plus years but never seen this.

otterturk · 07/12/2019 16:20

I'm usually in total control when I drink. Two weeks ago I managed to throw up in a pint glass at the bar in front of new people. I had serious fear the next day (and a word with myself about how the actual fuck did I get so drunk after three drinks) but thanked everyone, apologised once and never mentioned it again. Style it out, no one died.

snowball28 · 07/12/2019 16:22

Better the other people's bratty kids are upright and toddler sized in Europe than adult sized , comatose and lying in a gutter covered in sick ....

Stop exaggerating and being silly. Most parties work or otherwise do not have this happen.

Solitaryradiator · 07/12/2019 16:24

At one of my Xmas parties a woman offered varying and numerous people a blow job then passed out in the toilet and shit herself. You’ll be alright

Whatsername177 · 07/12/2019 16:26

Just style it out. I'd be tempted to get some of the M&S Brussel sprout chocolates and place them in a bowl on my desk. Own it, it was probably
Funny!

Nanamilly · 07/12/2019 16:27

Fart was accidental

Just blame it on your fanny, say its bucket sized since you had the baby and it now has a mind of its own.

IcedPurple · 07/12/2019 16:28

Truthfully - if you can get another job I’d leave and get the other job

She should give up her job because she got a bit drunk at an Xmas party? Even though nobody was hurt or insulted by her antics (unless perhaps they were in the direct path of The Fart)?

Have a bit of perspective!

exWifebeginsAgainat46 · 07/12/2019 16:29

i was always the guaranteed entertainment on our work nights out. the pinnacle being snogging my boss and doing shots of jack daniels with him in front of the entire department, on a flashing-lights dance floor at some terrible club.

i don’t drink any more.

(i was once surpassed by the department junior, who excused herself from dinner at bosses house, staggered off like a newborn calf and did a very loud poo in the adjacent downstairs cloakroom, with the door open.)

Highlights12 · 07/12/2019 16:32

Just say you couldn't make it so had to send your twin sister and you hope she behaved herselfGrin

GnomeDePlume · 07/12/2019 16:34

No one will mention the fart. Honestly, most people will have had experience of unstoppable wind.

No need to leave. Hopefully now the beer fear is easing. Assuming you arent out on the lash tonight, just think how good you are going to feel tomorrow morning.

Booboosweet · 07/12/2019 16:39

Hilarious! No big deal reallyGrin

MidnightMystery · 07/12/2019 16:40

Oh OP Grin that has made me laugh sorry! It's not bad though just might take a while to blow over Grin

Booboosweet · 07/12/2019 16:49

Oh my god @exWifebeginsAgainat46 that poo story! if I were here I would emigrate 😂

DeathByPicolax · 07/12/2019 16:52

I have been to company parties where food was thrown everywhere and a letter was sent by the hotel saying please don't return everyone got shitfaced. Someone fell in the canal. Someone got a broken ankle. A sheet was strung up with holes in and the men put their willies through and we all had to decide who was who. Really juvenile but everyone is blowing off steam and no-one died. Relax.

ysmaem · 07/12/2019 16:54

You got drunk and you vomited. Wouldn't hand my notice in over that.

Littlepond · 07/12/2019 16:54

This is why I never go to work parties 😂

Slothkin · 07/12/2019 16:57

There’s a piece by Kingsley Amis I love:

‘When that ineffable compound of depression, sadness (these two are not the same), anxiety, self-hatred, sense of failure and fear for the future begins to steal over you, start telling yourself that what you have is a hangover. You are not sickening for anything, you have not suffered a minor brain lesion, you are not all that bad at your job, your family and friends are not leagued in a conspiracy of barely maintained silence about what a shit you are, you have not come at last to see life as it really is and there is no use crying over spilt milk.’

And OP you sound like you were fine! Hope you’re feeling better now and have a restorative dinner planned and something silly to watch or read!

Notodontidae · 07/12/2019 17:02

Dont worry about it, if you can't get drunk and fart at a Christmas party when can you do it. The fact that it is totally out of character, will show your work collegues that it was being intoxicated that made you lose your inhibitions. All have a laugh Monday, then back to normal, if you enjoyed the party that much, you must have good friends there.

JapaneseBirdPainting · 07/12/2019 17:05

At my work do last year (I was a designated driver so protest personal innocence) people got so hammered that we actually got banned from returning, and the CEO got put on the pub watch list.

We are a bunch of middle aged professionals and it was deeply embarrassing.

Slothkin · 07/12/2019 17:05

@ScreamedAtTheMichelangelo awww, I love your boss a bit! Self-isolating is so sweet (and daft as a broom of course!).

Shock Did she come back to work after? That would be a definite emigration for me!

Miljea · 07/12/2019 17:16

Eight years ago, I got plastered, was dancing, then decided I might fall over. So I stepped out, away from the dancefloor but on the edge, and leaned back on the wall- which was the door into the kitchen.... Grin

Ended up sprawled on the floor in front of everyone! I leaped up and did a 'Da-DAH!' It was quite late in the night so several of the more 'respectable couples' had already gone (so didn't see), the 'hard core' remained. Inc me, old enough to know better Grin

Funnily enough there are only 2 people from then left in the company (HCP department), now. But they trot that story out every year, to the slight bemusement of the new, younger set who have joined us as others have left.

You evidently had to have been there...

I haha along but it is a bit wearing, eight years on, with only 2 people remembering.
