AIBU to be shit scared of BJ winning the next election?

Not sure how everyone else is doing, but I am just increasingly terrified about the idea that BJ and the likes of Jacob Rees-Morgan, Ian Duncan Smith (god they are just so disgusting Angry) are going to win this election. Got family in Australia and this morning it was raining ash and people literally can't breathe. The Tories are going to do nothing, zero, nada about climate change. And when I look at my kids I just don't know how we are going to survive another five years. and don't get my started about the state of the kid's school - the teachers are doing their best, but the reality is it's a shit show bc of how many cuts they have had. Friends are going canvassing for Labour and me and DH are doing our bit too - but it all just feels surreal - BJ talks shit, tells lies, and has reinvented himself as "new" when the fucker has been IN GOVT for years. Any got any ideas on how we can turn this around?

Just once more for the hard of thinking...

There. Was. A. Global. Recession.

otterturk · 06/12/2019 16:02

Far more scared of JC.

Nonnymum · 06/12/2019 16:04

I'm terrified too. I find myself waking up on the night very anxious about it am do lived through Thatcher years. Nothing felt as bad as this does.

Alsohuman · 06/12/2019 16:04

The best thing that can happen is that BJ gets on, Labour get rid of corbyn, someone sensible and actually competent becomes the leader of labour, the conservatives cock up sp that we have an election and then a proper sensible labour government come into power

Voting Tory to get a Labour government next time - what kind of fucked up logic is that?

CendrillonSings · 06/12/2019 16:05

Just once more for the hard of thinking...

... Labour left a colossal, record-breaking deficit in 2010. If you wanted it fixed faster, that would have meant faster and deeper cuts - more austerity, in other words. Would you have liked that?

Nonnymum · 06/12/2019 16:06

ChaoticKate and you think Boris Johnson is competent? I've never seen a more incompetent candidate to be PM.

CendrillonSings · 06/12/2019 16:07

Voting Tory to get a Labour government next time - what kind of fucked up logic is that?

The kind that worked when Foot and Kinnock were send packing, to be replaced by John Smith and Tony Blair, who was actually moderate and electable. Quite straightforward logic, really!

KidLorneRoll · 06/12/2019 16:08

Yeah, austerity really helped with reducing the debt.

AIBU to be shit scared of BJ winning the next election?
Alsohuman · 06/12/2019 16:09

Sounds pretty convoluted to me.

MrsDoylesTea · 06/12/2019 16:10

I'm Northern Irish, and my family have been affected by terrorism of the IRA. I'm struggling to rationalise how the man that supports the IRA "armed struggle" and refused to condemn their violence, and is pictured with his 'friend' Gerry Adams could have any chance of being my Prime Minister. It makes me incredibly sad, and I can't believe people are on here defending him.

The two most important things to me are the security of the country and the economy being successful so we can afford to improve everybody's lives, and fund public services.

What we should all be shit scared of is Corbyn, McDonnell and Diane Abbott where we will have neither of these things.

DazedandConcerned · 06/12/2019 16:20

What's with the hand wringing for Australians? I'm married to one - and you do realise that they are one of the highest carbon polluters per capita in the world? Why? Because they burn so much coal and refuse to consider nuclear power. I hardly think our government - whatever government - can do ANYTHING to help people who refuse to help themselves.

Regarding the UK election issues. There is no great, bright shining hope. It's not Johnson and it's not Corbyn. In fact, I find them so distateful I'm going to spoil my ballot and explain why FPTP voting is ridiculous and does not indicate any preference in government from the majority of the people. I also live in an extremely safe northern labour seat (also a brexit seat so I'm curious to see any swing) so my vote doesn't matter (hence FPTP rant.)

The fact is, saying you are shit scared of an outcome is absurd. Nothing is going to collapse, the sky isn't going to fall, and the world isn't going to end. The reality is politicians promise the world and deliver shit in your Christmas stocking. Is it all pointless? Probably.

KidLorneRoll · 06/12/2019 16:23

'economy being successful'

Definitely not a vote for the tories then.

Everanewbie · 06/12/2019 16:23

KidLorneRoll austerity was to deal with the deficit. As long as a deficit exists the debt increases. Austerity greatly reduced the deficit, hence the slowing of the rate of debt increase as per your graph.

You can't be critical debt on one hand, then oppose deficit reduction.

CendrillonSings · 06/12/2019 16:29

Yeah, austerity really helped with reducing the debt.

If you don’t understand the difference between debt and deficit, then this whole economics thing might not be for you...

Nessaofbarry · 06/12/2019 16:31

YABU.
If you’re that bothered about climate change, go protest in China or the USA. Be proactive, don’t just complain about Boris.

What’s the most shocking is that you think labour is the better party. Nuts

KeithPartridge · 06/12/2019 16:32

MrsDoyle, the Tories went into bed with the DUP! Or are links to loyalist terrorists ok? Foster was having secret meetings with the UVF just a few weeks ago.

And by the way, Corbyn was talking to the likes of Gerry Adams to try to bring about peace. He wasn't having secret meetings and maintaining affiliations with terrorists like Foster was, while cosying up to the Tories at the same time.

KidLorneRoll · 06/12/2019 16:33

Wait, there is a difference between a deficit and debt?

No fucking shit.

Austerity still failed.

Symptomless · 06/12/2019 16:33

It makes me feel better when I read about the working classes, jams, low income workers, homeless etc voting for tories despite none of them trusting bojo or tories.

KeithPartridge · 06/12/2019 16:35

I am so sick of people prattling on about Corbyn and the IRA while saying NOTHING about the Tories and the DUP in bed together while the DUP is having secret talks and meetings with the UVF and is their political wing and who are among the most vicious killers the island of Ireland has ever seen...killers of my friend! If you call out Corbyn call out the fucking Tories too or say nothing at all.

fishonabicycle · 06/12/2019 16:39

I'm no massive jC fan, but he's not anti Semitic. He's anti Israeli policy - not the same.

GreenishMe · 06/12/2019 16:48

YABU

I've voted Labour all my life but I'm scared to vote for them this time. They're so far left they're off the chart.

This Labour government would be dangerous for the U.K. and would probably be difficult to get rid of once they'd dug their heels in.

BJ's a pussycat compared to McDonnell & co. I fear extremism whichever direction it comes from.

MaxNormal · 06/12/2019 16:49

How can anyone read this and not be absolutely shit-scared of this shower of bastards who have hijacked the Tory party getting in?

Pussycat? The man's a narcissist.

John1971 · 06/12/2019 16:51

Even John Major's now said don't vote for Johnson.

CendrillonSings · 06/12/2019 16:52

Even John Major's now said don't vote for Johnson

You don’t want to know what Tony’s Blair’s said about Corbyn! Grin

percheron67 · 06/12/2019 16:54

I think you have every reason to be terrified if Jeremy Corbyn wins!!
