To think 80% of the people on here are pretty rude & mean

It seems most things I post on here, the responses are just filled with rude, sarcastic people. So are the things I read on other people's responses. If you don't agree with someone or their posts bother you, don't comment just move on 😒

I’ve been here nearly 20 years and I like the robust discussion, so many times people think others are being ‘rude’ just because they have a different opinion. I’ve had a few ‘blunt’ comments directed at me over various subjects, but it’s just a different opinion and it’s often good to have our own views challenged.

puds11 · 05/12/2019 15:48

Generally used if someone is being particularly goady or pathetic I think.

puds11 · 05/12/2019 15:48

The biscuit that is.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 05/12/2019 15:51

BORING

HanginWithMyGnomies · 05/12/2019 15:52

Maybe 80% of people are just more sensitive than others! Personally I appreciate the bluntness, I can be a bit precious. Nothing like a straight to the point comment to snap me back round.

NameChangeNugget · 05/12/2019 15:53

You entitled prick Wink Biscuit

puds11 · 05/12/2019 15:54

@TrollTheRespawnJeremy you’re being rude and mean Grin

midnightmisssuki · 05/12/2019 15:54

What’s the point of this thread op? I mean - I comment every single time I see a Boris/conservative bashing thread because there are so many of them. Perhaps netmums might be better for you OP - aibu is harsh sometimes. Xmas Biscuit Xmas Smile

Rachel438 · 05/12/2019 15:55

You are very sensitive though - maybe you're still upset about that dreadful checkout assistant at Tesco.

You're right about mumsnetters though - right load of bastards. Half of them aren't even Mums - just randoms on the internet.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 05/12/2019 15:57

@puds11 oh god forbid. What will we do? clutches pearls

UsedtobeFeckless · 05/12/2019 15:57

I've had several threads on here and while l have been told not to be a prat in varying ways on lots of occasions none of the comments have been out-of-order-rude and to be honest, brutal honesty is the whole point of AIBU!

hammeringinmyhead · 05/12/2019 15:58

Haha. "Rude" and "disagreeing with me, waaaah" are not the same thing.

And actually there are worse things to be than rude. "Rudeness" is a very clever thing people use to deflect things they don't want to hear.

puds11 · 05/12/2019 15:59

@TrollTheRespawnJeremy fgs think of the children!!

ghostyslovesheets · 05/12/2019 16:04

I do think the most obnoxious stroppy people tend to be those who don’t get the response they want or get their arse handed to them

But it’s an online forum - not life - far more cruelty in the real world maybe start doing something about that?

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 05/12/2019 16:06

Please don't start an 'everybody is being mean' trope.

christmastreewithhairyfairy · 05/12/2019 16:14

Disagreeing with you does not equal mean or rude. I'm speaking as someone who has had their arse handed to them on AIBU, several times. If you are told AIBU, it means you probably are. And if you weren't prepared to be told that, don't ask!!

SpruceTree · 05/12/2019 16:20

Sometimes OP's get offended just because people disagree with their point of view, no matter how politely they do so.

NKFell · 05/12/2019 16:21

If you post in AIBU then you're asking for opinions, some people happened to think you were being a derp for being offended by small talk. It's just the way it goes.

If you just want to rant then post somehwere like Chat and make it clear you're not looking for anyone to post that doesn't agree with you...although it still might not go down too well!

MoreFeministThanThou · 05/12/2019 16:23

You can expect to be disagreed with on AIBU, but no, people shouldn't use that as an excuse to shit all over the OP.

I think MN has got so big that there is little comeback on asshole posters. It was better before when it was smaller and people "knew" each other better

Sparklfairy · 05/12/2019 16:25

Poster posts a thread in AIBU and doesn't like the responses.

Poster then posts another thread in AIBU to moan... Expecting different responses?

some people never learn Hmm

GinDaddy · 05/12/2019 16:25

The funniest thing on this thread are the replies from people telling OP to go to Netmums, as if AIBU is some sacred, hallowed arena of combat, and only the initiated need understand why savagery is de rigeur

Get over yourselves - some of you just love giving other (mainly women) a kicking, and enjoy really sticking the boot in when someone is clearly distressed. The worse the spelling or lack of paragraph use, the more arch and knowing some MNetters get. The more vulnerable the person (DV, TTC etc), the more vicious and head-girl replies start to stack up.

This is the reality, but you'll be damned if anyone admits to it.

NoSauce · 05/12/2019 16:25

This topic is on a loop.

Fairyliz · 05/12/2019 16:27

I always think of AIBU being a place where people are totally honest.

So in real life the answer to does my bum look big in this would be ‘no you look fabulous ‘ . In AIBU it would be ‘yes your arse looks huge you need to lose weight’ .
Harsh but probably true!
Btw not talking about your bum op just a made up example.

Areyoufree · 05/12/2019 16:29

Where did you come up with that figure? 80% seems very high - almost tempted to go back through posts and come up with a more accurate statistic...

Whilst I dislike some of the petty, irrelevant posts (the ones that nitpick over supposed parenting defects whilst missing the point of the posts) on the whole, I think things are generally pretty balanced. And very so often you get a post that genuinely warms your heart, as posters fall over themselves to help. Plus the breadth of knowledge on here is staggering.

longwayoff · 05/12/2019 16:32

For crying out loud. Is it school holidays already? 80 per cent of MN consists of adults.
