Council worker smoking

Just witnessed a council maintenance worker smoking whilst doing something for my neighbour. He walked up to the door with a fag on and continued to smoke whilst completing the errand on their front garden! Really doesn’t give off a good look. Should they be smoking on the job?

I'll be honest, if someone was out in this weather doing manual work, taking bags of rubbish out from council houses and generally freezing their nuts off, I would not be actively seeking to create problems for them and their state of employment, despite the hedonistic lifestyle their behaviour suggests.

I honestly think we would all be better off without people spending the daylight hours finding ways to create problems.

Oh dear OP, slow news day? I once spent five hours noting a horrific statement of historical child abuse and then had a fag in the back garden with the person I was speaking with in UNIFORM. I have also queued at a food van and ate a burger by the Side of the road after having no breaks on my nine hour shift. In fact on a daily basis not being able to get back to the office for a pee never mind food, I've pulled over and smoked a fag. Sack me!!

You say your neighbour doesn't want people smoking in her garden but she wasn't even aware of it until you stuck your beak in so you've just caused her an unnecessary annoyance and worry.

Maybe he was due a break but knew if he took a break to smoke the neighbours work wouldn't get completed so had a smoke while working?

Doctors and surgeons are probably more versed in first hand experience of smoking outcomes so less likely to smoke full stop so it's a bloody stupid comparison. Police smoking on duty on the other hand... but then if a police officer had ran down and caught a criminal while being verbal and physically abused and wanted a smoke afterwards while dealing with his colleagues and no members of the public we're being dealt with, I wouldn't give a shit.

Unlucky OP - despite your best efforts to fuel up MN by referring to previous threads about smoking and constantly posting, hardly any of us with a life could get worked up over this. You watched him smoke and then “stopped” your neighbour to tell her ! Glad you are not my nosy neighbour
