Council worker smoking

Just witnessed a council maintenance worker smoking whilst doing something for my neighbour. He walked up to the door with a fag on and continued to smoke whilst completing the errand on their front garden! Really doesn’t give off a good look. Should they be smoking on the job?

Bloody hell I'm so glad I had a life when I was 23. You need a hobby that isn't berating people for doing something perfectly legal. Is it nice? No but maybe he didn't have proper breaks so he had a fag on the job to save tine in this freezing weather. I hope they chuck the complaint in the bin where it belongs.

Another poster who gets all angry and sarcastic when a post doesn’t go their way Grin

It's a council workman, not a member of the Buckingham Palace Guard.

Pinkandgreenfloral · 05/12/2019 15:38

I wouldn’t care, as long as they weren’t coming in my house, Ndthey didn’t throw the ends on my property

Karenisbaren · 05/12/2019 15:40

Some people just do not have a life.

Spitsandspots · 05/12/2019 15:43

Does council tax contribute to their wages? If so then neighbour and I are paying for him to smoke on the job

When he finds out you pay him, he will be round to ask for a raise Grin

Ringdonna · 05/12/2019 16:03

Don't be an arse

Huggybear16 · 05/12/2019 16:12

Yes I must get a life instead of looking out for elderly lone neighbour who can’t defend herself

I'm not sure she needed you to defend her from the man who was smoking outdoors. But even if she did, you haven't done anything. In your own words, she is the one complaining. You were just peering out the window, then after he left, went gossiping to your neighbour.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 05/12/2019 16:18

I have a nasty feeling the roof contractor I employed may have smoked up on my roof!. Should I have clambered up the scaffolding to check or had CCTV put up there to keep an eye? But what if the CCTV installer had smoked while installing the camera on my roof? It's a minefield isn't it?

AlexaAmbidextra · 05/12/2019 16:21

I think you need to find a hobby to occupy you OP.

Whattodoabout · 05/12/2019 16:21

A Yodel courier once walked right up to my door with my parcel in one hand and a fag in the other, I was Shock. It’s unprofessional but also my parcel stunk of smoke which made me think he smoked in the van (obviously illegal).

thefattestchip · 05/12/2019 16:23

Your neighbour wouldn't have known that the man was smoking if you hadn't stuck your nose in. What exactly did you defend her from?

LEELULUMPKIN · 05/12/2019 16:27

Net curtains or not, nosey net twitching neighbours are alive and well I see.

wtf has it got to do with you OP?

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 05/12/2019 16:37

Did you receive the parcel you were waiting for? Hope it wasn't the same Yodel courier as pp @ 16.21 had Xmas Grin

NameChangeNugget · 05/12/2019 17:18

In the nicest possible way, get a grip.

Wishforsnow · 05/12/2019 17:28

Wow, get a grip! Glad my life was fun at 23 and things like this wouldn't even cross my mind

ScreamingValenta · 05/12/2019 17:28

Doctors and surgeons work long hard hours, quite often with no breaks. They still abide by work rules and do not smoke on the job.

There's a slight difference between smoking in someone's garden, and dropping fag ash into someone's open heart surgery.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 05/12/2019 17:30

Does this mean it’s okay for me to spark up whilst helping an elderly person with their shopping or taking them to their doctors appointment?

Only he wasn’t doing any of those Hmm nor was he smoking during his contact with the customer, he may be a volunteer (handy man serve) being paid a pittance to do “errands”, or he may have been on his break.

You’re going on about work “rules” yet you have absolutely no idea what his “work” policies are Hmm

And bloody hell bleeting on about your council tax paying for his smoking in the job, your council tax by that mindset is paying for the bloody cigarettes themselves.

Stop twitching the curtains and get a life, you’ve far too much time on your hands.

Marnie76 · 05/12/2019 17:36

Last year I caught my postman stubbing his cigarette out in my plant pot. It was a plant I bought to remember someone who had just died. I told him off in my best head teacher voice. I was very annoyed. But no of course I didn’t report him, he was rude, he didn’t kill anyone and deserve to loose his job!
