And everyone else says Santa?

I say Santa but my posh DH and all his family and posh friends say Father Christmas.

Anyone else noticed this? Or AIBU?

@Pantalaimon88 then please expand on what you meant. I've asked several times.

astralweaks · 05/12/2019 17:13

To those who enjoy watching the Coca Cola truck reverse.

gingergittable · 05/12/2019 17:14

@SquareAsABlock stop responding. She's clearly cracked open the eggnog a bit too early today.

dreichXmas · 05/12/2019 17:14

so your saying Scottish, Irish, N Irish, Americans and so forth and what? Common? Working class? This thread is way beyond FC and really shedding some light on a few English people's mentality towards other people.
Honestly this belief in the exceptionalism of the English is why we have ended up with Brexit.
There are going to be a lot of disappointed people when it is realized that the rest of the world really doesn't see it this way.

superfandango · 05/12/2019 17:16

Me saying 'Father Christmas' in the States is usually met with 'who the he'll is that?' but actually now loss of people here have adopted it instead of Santa.

Maybe there'll be someone in Pittsburgh shaking their fist at Peppa Pig Xmas Grin

Believe me, I've been thinking exactly the same very loudly throughout this thread, but didnt want to bring the B word into it on top of everything.

Clawdy · 05/12/2019 17:18

My gran was a working class, down to earth woman who always said "Daddy Christmas"! We all said Father Christmas, but lots of people now say Santa.

SickNotes · 05/12/2019 17:19

Perhaps you caught my extra-loud thoughtwaves from the midlands? Entirely agree.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 05/12/2019 17:20

Blame brexit on Santa!

astralweaks · 05/12/2019 17:21

dirtyrottenscoundrel

Father Christmas is definitely more middle class.
When people say Santa I just cringe.

I cringe at posters who use passed instead of past...I could quote but shall leave it for now.

Grin
dreichXmas · 05/12/2019 17:21

@superfandango The adoption of the English accent by young American Peppa Pig fans is something that is discussed of here in the USA!!

Pantalaimon88 · 05/12/2019 17:22

I meant that American culture has a big influence on our own as it’s everywhere. The majority of the media we watch is US, especially with young people. Things are bound to see through, it’s a fact.

I’ve said this several times and I’m just repeating myself now. I don’t know what you’re not understanding?

Every year we get this thread. Every year we get the arguments. Love it.

Drabarni · 05/12/2019 17:25

Santa is Satan. Father Christmas was a Saint, no comparison really.
I'm on benefits so definitely not posh. Just right.

cukooboo · 05/12/2019 17:26

Isn't FC an English thing?

Well I'm in Ireland and no one says Father Christmas here. Santa or Santy.

Family say Santy & I say Santa

lynxca16 · 05/12/2019 17:27

Don't much care what he is called, as long as he/she turns up on the night:))))

BackforGood · 05/12/2019 17:27

Agree, this comes up every year.
If anything, I assume it is more of an age / generation thing ?

We always said Father Christmas - and that's what I'd say to my (now adult) dc. On MN more people seem to say Santa, but I'm wondering if that's because the majority of people on here are younger than me ?

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 05/12/2019 17:27

astralweaks

I’m not sure whether I’m flattered or worried that you remember my spelling mistakes.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 05/12/2019 17:27

Santa is so American/non-english.

Father Christmas in our house. Always.

Becclescake · 05/12/2019 17:28

I say Father Christmas and I'm as common as muck 🎅. Santa to me is an American term.

drogon1 · 05/12/2019 17:30

I say both but mainly Father Christmas and I come from a council estate, cant get much more working class!

LaurieMarlow · 05/12/2019 17:30

Anyone else have no idea what this means?
