AIBU: A CF neighbour thread

OK, so this is a light-hearted(ish) AIBU – but I’d love some interesting advice on this very CF problem. With diagrams, of course.

We were cross, but we’ve decided to take a less stressful attitude. So, please consult my not-to-scale picture. We (US on map) – share the private lane with our other neighbours. None of us owns it, all of us have access rights in our deeds. We are the only people who use the North Exit. And we mostly use South as it’s easier. But North is better for large vans/ building equipment etc.

A couple of months ago, the tree (in bold) next to ‘A’ fell across the ‘A’ road. At the time, the ‘B’ option didn’t exist. CF cut the tree in bits, placed it completely over ‘A’, and strimmed/ dug / pulled out plants to create route B. (CF never uses A or B access.) A is easier than B for big vehicles, and we needed some deliveries, so we moved the tree branches so we could use A again. Next day, CF has put them back, with a sign saying it’s not our tree and we shouldn’t move it. (It’s not CF’s tree either.) We move the sign, and put the tree back – this goes on for several days, CF and us moving this tree every day. (We haven’t spoken to him for a variety of essentially sensible reasons. This is a silent row.) Then we get there one day, and the tree is where we left it, but he has gone and got a tractor, and placed an extremely heavy concrete block on the lane, completely blocking A.

We were pissed off and wondering how to move this block. But as it was making us cross, and he is a proper cunt according to other neighbours, we are thinking that actually, we’ll use his concrete block as a barrier, and build some sort of structure there. That means we effectively claim that whole corner – it’s not ours, but it now can’t be usefully used by anyone else. And it comes with the massive benefit of messing with CF’s head. We can’t let him think he’s won.

Any other suggestions? We are considering any kind of humorous/ passive-aggressive / non-violent protest, which preferably doesn’t involve us talking to him, which we know through experience would do no good and potentially some harm,( ie another concrete block which cuts us off from all access).

If we give horrible neighbour the benefit of the doubt, could he have blocked B for safety reasons? Perhaps large deliveries have caused damage to the road? Given that this follows the tree falling down perhaps he reckons more trees are at risk of going over?

Without asking him, you aren't going to resolve this.

Hodnet · 06/12/2019 19:42

It doesn't, matter if he owns it or not, if the rights of way are in your deeds he is breaking the law. Years ago I had the same trouble. Do you all have copies of your deeds specifying the right of way send him a copy and see what his reaction is. Alternatively consult a good solicitor. I would not let him get away with it as he has only to do this for 20years and you will lose the right of way.
Good luck

put some fake blood on the top and satanic symbols on the side so it looks like someone is using it as a sacrificial altar.

damnthatanxiety · 06/12/2019 20:13

Hoppinggreen I think you are mistaken. There were 2 entrances/exits and then CF created a new one and blocked an existing one. Not sure why you think there were 3.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 06/12/2019 20:14

I wonder if he’s planning on building something close to the original road and wants to block it off for the planners coming out? He could be playing a fly move.

Get some lovely paints and emblazon the legend, “this belongs to Mr Cunty Bollox of [his address]” on it.

Then, as PPs have suggested, erect an elaborate and festive nativity scene on top of it, so the writing hidden underneath will be a lovely surprise once Christmas is over.

Twisique · 06/12/2019 20:57

Contact the owners and offer to buy the road.

Shock

Buy a right of way you would be liable for maintaining (forever) for the benefit of all the neighbors including CF? While the smug feeling of being able to move the tree and state "Oh yes it is." when CF tells you it isn't yours to move, I really don't think it would be worth the cost!

wowfudge · 06/12/2019 21:12

Hire a tractor, move and dispose of the tree then move the concrete block and put it across the end of his drive. Under the cover of darkness obviously so he doesn't know who's done it.

BitOfFun · 06/12/2019 21:34

I think the most sensible suggestions is to get the Fire Brigade out to bollock him, but I'm all for a Christmas Grotto until it's sorted out.

Merryweather80 · 06/12/2019 23:24

Lots and lots of different colours if glow in the dark paint, Christmas tree on top brightly lit and the Santa pants clothes line.

Merry Christmas 🎁

Purplealienpuke · 06/12/2019 23:44
You so need one of these 😂🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅 Then break up the concrete block and post it through his door bit by bit.... you could even send him some in a beautifully wrapped xmas box 🎁 Or cover broken pieces in shit (cow shit is good but any shit will do) wrap said shit in newspaper, put it on his doorstep, set fire to it and run..... he'll come out, stamp on it and get covered in shit and bits of shitty concrete 😂 merry fucking Christmas you old bastard 😂😂🎅🎁🖕
LadyGAgain · 07/12/2019 00:06

Paint a mural, claim it's a Banksy. Get the local press round. Point them to the door of CF as he facilitated the Banksy.

bpirockin · 07/12/2019 02:22

Something like these perhaps?

Paint it to look like a minion with a big poking out tongue , then pop a Christmas hat on top 👍

justmakemeacuppa · 07/12/2019 14:47

Can you not ring council and do him for fly tipping? I believe it comes with a hefty fine too?

Stegosaurus1990 · 07/12/2019 15:03

@justmakemeacuppa

OP can’t, it’s private land.

Cider4Caro · 07/12/2019 18:41

I think I'd spray paint in big letters "Kindly Installed By A Twat" on the Concrete block.
He wouldn't like that. Dont admit it was you who did it to anyone though. Make sure you do it in the middle of the night! Dont get caught! Good luck!

FloydWasACat · 07/12/2019 19:41

Not sure if this has been suggested already but do you know any arty friends who can do a reasonable Banksy? That will get the bloke taken away within hours! And then probably sold...

FloydWasACat · 07/12/2019 19:43

Oops, yes it has. Sorry . Blush

FloydWasACat · 07/12/2019 19:43

block sorry, getting a bit distracted by my KFC and the Netflix film Klaus (so good)

Localocal · 09/12/2019 09:02

I would call the fire department and ask them to come around because you are concerned about emergency access. If they agree that the concrete block is a hazard and would prevent them getting to a fire, they may visit the neighbour and insist on its removal.
