To be a tad disappointed with my balsam hill tree

As a big treat got a Balsam Hill tree - I’ve bemoaned my other trees for years and don’t like the smell or mess of real trees.

Now it’s great, and Pre-lit etc.. but for the price, I don’t know, I expected it to look amazing- it’s nice enough - but not quite as “wow” as I was expecting.

Anyone else?

Got a fake tree from my local Home depot store 5 years ago. I flock it and fill with decorations. Cant tell it isnt real. Except the real smell of a tree. Fill that tree up and enjoy it!

@TinyGringotts. Yeah ok. That's pretty nice. Grin

RockinHippy · 03/12/2019 20:42

I bought one last year & sent it back fir this exact reason. I thought it was a bit crap tbh. They were good about taking it back & refunding though

It looks nice.
I got a temporary tree from home bargains a few years ago (8 or more) as couldn't decide which more expensive one to get. It was £15 and I'm still using it. Guess it's staying now.

Welshmaenad · 03/12/2019 20:44

Floof that bitch. It gets better the more you floof it.

Timinfuckingruislip · 03/12/2019 20:46

Hopefully decorations will make me feel a little more excited. For long winded reasons had to check the height first so not decorating until about Thursday or Friday.

This is the John Lewis tree we bought

I could have written this! Have wanted one for ages and treated myself, but it just looks, well, fake 🤷‍♀️and I reckon a £50 one would look the same.

Oh well, fully intend to use it for ten years to get my money’s worth 🤣

Timinfuckingruislip · 03/12/2019 20:48

@KristinaM hold on - what sorcery is this? Wind a twig back around???

I like PaddingtonBear's tree.

foamrolling · 03/12/2019 20:50

It definitely looks better than my bog standard atificial tree but I have to agree I'm not sure it's worth that money and doesn't look real.

@BuildBuildings I''m in San Francisco. You know, the home of millionaire wallets (except mine!). Tree was just about 8 feet, but a very narrow one. In the past we had higher ceilings and could find cheaper giant trees but this height must be prime, hence the big price ticket.

I went for a 7.5 feet from Balsam Hill, thinking the cost of a tree for two years would cover it, if on sale. Once it gets here, I shall be fluffing like mad methinks!

Unshriven · 03/12/2019 20:51

The tree you've got looks very narrow OP.

Is it meant to be wider?

70sWitch · 03/12/2019 20:51

Mine from Christmas tree world.

Timinfuckingruislip · 03/12/2019 20:55

@Unshriven think it’s the angle of my photo - it’s not as wide as a real tree 🌲

@70sWitch ooh that’s nice.

I bought one at the beginning of October as a treat to myself and I'm over the moon with it. It's a blue spruce I think
I think yours needs more fluffing. You can see straight through it. Mine was the same

Aquamarine1029 · 03/12/2019 20:57

I think it will be lovely once decorated. I agree that you should "fluff" it a bit more, and move the branches a bit.

Paddingtonthebear · 03/12/2019 20:58

The John Lewis tree last year with decorations

You know what OP. It's not too late if you're really not happy with it . Send it back. There are some pretty good alternatives posted on here.
It's a lot of money to spend on something you don't love.

Maybe go and see a few in person? Smile

MaddieElla · 03/12/2019 20:59

I am in the same boat! Half price sale, £249. Frosted Fraser Fir, seriously underwhelmed! I expected WOW.

Will try and post a pic...

Timinfuckingruislip · 03/12/2019 21:00

I’m a bit rubbish at fluffing I think... now I’d maybe put an advert out - but I think professional fluffer means something else entirely 😂
