To be a tad disappointed with my balsam hill tree

As a big treat got a Balsam Hill tree - I’ve bemoaned my other trees for years and don’t like the smell or mess of real trees.

Now it’s great, and Pre-lit etc.. but for the price, I don’t know, I expected it to look amazing- it’s nice enough - but not quite as “wow” as I was expecting.

Anyone else?

@Timinfuckingruislip

It’s how you cover up the metal part of each branch near the trunk.

Once the branch is slotted into place on the trunk / unfolded, the first step of fluffing when you buy a new tree is to take the “ twig” nearest the back and wind it around the branch, backwards towards the trunk.

You only have to do it the first time you fluff, after you’ve bought it.

Also, since you are asking for opinions, your lights are too near the end of the branches. You needs some nearer the centre of the tree, to give it depth. Otherwise it looks like a cone.

Ditto decorations.

I am a Christmas tree geek Grin

Oh man...picture wont post!!

ClementineWardobe · 03/12/2019 21:24

Yep, said it on another thread, they're really underwhelming... All the faffing and fluffing on the world won't make it look worth the money. I paid half price one summer and it wasn't worth it.

I've always wanted a balsam hill tree but I just couldn't justify spending that sort of money.

Mine is from keamingk and I love it! Cost £80.

We've had this tree for about 7 years. A Tesco £25 special.

Nup

Fuzzy 😀

KristinaM · 03/12/2019 21:26

You need to bend each branch downwards but shape the tips of each twig upwards, especially the end one.

What is it about BH trees that makes them so superior to other fake trees?

What is all this business with the gloves and fluffing?

We have an obviously fake pre-lit black tree that's about 10 years old and still fine but, apart from this thread, there's so much love for BH that I'm curious about them. Are they really the bees knees or is another 'Mumsnet loves' that turns out to be not worth the extra £££s IRL?

70sWitch · 03/12/2019 21:29

Some excellent trees here. Rufus yours looks fab. Especially for it's age.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 03/12/2019 21:31

The eleventy billion lights and baubles do help disguise its age Grin

Villagegreenpreservation · 03/12/2019 21:31

Please can you tell me where you’re getting the baskets to put them in?
I’ve just bought an Asda one and already wistful for a real one....haven’t even put it up yet. Love a real trees. Not sure what I was thinking!

Timinfuckingruislip · 03/12/2019 21:31

@KristinaM can you come and fix my tree Grin. I bet you even manage symmetrical decoration too!

70sWitch · 03/12/2019 21:32

Awwww. Well it doesn't owe you anything now. Hope it enjoys retirement Grin

KristinaM · 03/12/2019 21:33

Lovely rufus. I like that it’s fat.

And your proper angel. None of this fairy rubbish.

Celebelly · 03/12/2019 21:34

@RufusthebewiIderedreindeer Your tree is delightfully fat! I love it

70sWitch · 03/12/2019 21:35

@Villagegreenpreservation. You're looking for a wicket tree skirt. I don't have one but most places that sell trees have them I think

70sWitch · 03/12/2019 21:35

WICKER tree skirt ffs

KristinaM · 03/12/2019 21:36

Grin I’m not into symmetry . But I do spend an inordinate amount of time moving baubles to a more aesthetically pleasing position. And then back.

And matching the colours of my white lights. I’ve just given some away to my DD as they are the wrong shade of warm white.

It’s my only vice Wink.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 03/12/2019 21:38

In case you can't tell from the picture. For the first time last year I did not redecorate the entire tree once my helper elf (DGS1) had finished carefully placing every single ornament on a branch. Not one did I move. I'm still reeling, tbh. This year he shall maybe not be invited to assist :)

70sWitch · 03/12/2019 21:39

Ok. @kristinaM. You and me - separated at birth Grin

Timinfuckingruislip · 03/12/2019 21:40

@Villagegreenpreservation I saw some nice ones in Next the other day. Ironically didn’t buy them as thought they were a bit pricey from the woman who’s just spent over £200 on a sodding tree
