Tax credits have just put nearly 10k in my bank

Just checked my bank, as I do most days at 12am incase payments have Gone in from my free lance job.
I don’t earn very much so I like to keep an eye.

I have just checked and nearly had a heart attack to see there was 8k in there. Last time I checked I had £113

I quickly scrolled to see where it had come from and it says bank giro - which is usually tax credits/ child benefit, but I get paid on a Friday.
And usually only £63 per week.

I have one child, have not changed circumstances all year. Haven’t contacted them for anything recently either.

WHAT DO I DO?

Oooh how exciting OP!

GabsAlot · 03/12/2019 12:31

The premium bonds idea is great if yoou get no joy you dont earn interest but can still win and if they want it back its there

DuckWillow · 03/12/2019 12:32

I hope it is yours but am betting it’s an error. It’s nice to dream though eh!

whatsoccuringnow · 03/12/2019 12:33

Come back OP! We need to know

poorlymatchedsocks · 03/12/2019 12:33

dementedma · 03/12/2019 12:34

If you don't want it OP could I have it? Just got a 9K bill from the roofer !! :-(

eenymeenyminyme · 03/12/2019 12:34

I love all the people expecting OP to have a quick resolution to this Grin

Clearly they've never tried phoning tax credits to resolve anything ever!

Mumdiva99 · 03/12/2019 12:35

@eenymeenyminyme that was what I was thinking. She won't be back yet - she'll have only been on hold an hour...that's not long enough to get through to them.

FinnBalorsAbs · 03/12/2019 12:36

She’s still on hold!

SpoonSpoon · 03/12/2019 12:40

Cake fingers crossed!

catlady3 · 03/12/2019 12:44

Wasn't going to comment just for the sake of it, BUT YOU'RE KILLING ME OP!!! (fingers firmly crossed)

CherryBathBomb · 03/12/2019 12:44

Fingers crossed its for you!!
What great timing it would be right before Christmas 🎁

BestOption · 03/12/2019 12:49

I’m guessing ‘still in hold’

Scbchl · 03/12/2019 12:53

A few years ago my sister had a horrific couple of years financially, my brother in law is a builder and was rained off work loads then the winter was frozen and too cold to work etc. Came january and she gave his exact income for the year before and got 5.5k rebate as they had underestimated. Made a massive difference. Allowed them to pay off debts and breathe for the next couple of months when he continued to be rained off/not able to work due to snow and low temperatures.

Hope it's yours to keep op.

CactusSmactus · 03/12/2019 12:58

Ahh 10 pages and I still don’t know if it’s yours 😂 Good luck OP!

CloudyVanilla · 03/12/2019 12:59

Dementedmagpie · 03/12/2019 12:59

GlitteryFluff · 03/12/2019 12:59

Another one place marking - we need to know! Have everything crossed for you 🤞🏻

Dandelion1993 · 03/12/2019 13:01

Call them. If they find out and you've spent it they'll make you pay it back

HeyMissyYouSoFine · 03/12/2019 13:02

I got one half thousand as underpayment many years ago- I spent the morning worried - as I'd for some reason I'd checked the account and found it and the letter came that day but the post was extremely late.

It was in the summer and the previous tax year -when we'd had redundancy we'd rung to updated them it was all cut which we hadn't expected. So it was resetting for the part of the pervious tax year based on that years actual figures which showed they'd unpaid.

I was worried as it took nearly a year to sort their prvious cock up - they'd added a child same name and birthdate twice and kept sending my copy of letters to DH at our old address and insisting they weren't.

I think 10K is more likely to be a mistake if things haven't change last tax year - sorry.
