Do you have a spare key in or around your home?

Where do you hide it?

I don't hide spare keys, they're in the key box with the others. If there's an intruder in my house, I'm not bothered if they use a key to let themselves out.

billy1966 · 02/12/2019 22:11

We have a wall mounted key box with combination lock. Cost about 20 pounds and is extremely handy.
No one will ever get locked out, very handy with teenagers.

PullingMySocksUp · 02/12/2019 22:12

Same here. In the bowl of keys which is not visible or reachable from the front door, but pretty near it.

DramaAlpaca · 02/12/2019 22:12

Yes, but I'm not telling you where it is Wink

OhioOhioOhio · 02/12/2019 22:12

A combination lock key box is a great idea. Do you only use it if you forget a key or do you not take a key because you have it?

My next door neighbour has our spare key.

PullingMySocksUp · 02/12/2019 22:13

Or do you mean one under a plant pot sort of thing?
We’ve just tied one into eldest’s school bag. I did consider putting one in a box under a bush in the garden though.

themuttsnutts · 02/12/2019 22:13

Yes, I live at number 42 The Crescent NW10 4GP and it's under the mat!Grin

AwkwardPaws27 · 02/12/2019 22:14

A friend who lives 5 minutes walk away has a spare (and we have his spare).

Thatnovembernight · 02/12/2019 22:14

Nope. My parents live nearby and have a spare set of keys. I don’t have any hidden outside.

MakeItRain · 02/12/2019 22:15

I've only ever hidden keys outside once or twice for a specific reason and then it's been in a too obvious place like under/in a flower pot! But friends/family living nearby have a spare key in case I ever need one.

Chouetted · 02/12/2019 22:15

I don't hide it. You can't leave if the door is locked without a key, so I keep it by the front door but out of reach of the letterbox.

Like EskewedBeef, if there's someone in my house who shouldn't be, I'm quite happy for them to let themselves OUT.

elephantoverthehill · 02/12/2019 22:15

Same here Billy. I've put mine behind a prickly plant, the teenagers need to be desperate to access it.

Singlebutmarried · 02/12/2019 22:15

I have spare keys with a few friends.

I used to lock myself out a lot.

It’s better now we have a new door that you have to lock physically when you go out. Means I can leave the house without my keys.

QuestionableMushroom · 02/12/2019 22:15

We have spare front, back and garage keys with the next door neighbours, a set hung under the stairs and our own sets.

Singlebutmarried · 02/12/2019 22:15

Can’t. Ffs.

EskewedBeef · 02/12/2019 22:15

Ah, you meant outside? Other than with the neighbour, we don't have spare keys outside the house.

PullingMySocksUp · 02/12/2019 22:16

And actually I have a back door one in my wallet.

Scrowy · 02/12/2019 22:17

I can't remember the last time we locked the door. I don't think we have a spare key but the actual key lives in the keyhole on the outside side.

We've not been locked in yet by anyone Grin

If somehow we did get locked out all the windows are easily opened from the outside so we would just hop in through one of those instead (hence why it's pointless locking the doors).

Xiaoxiong · 02/12/2019 22:17

Used to lock myself out all the time, or put the door on the latch and forget to take it off and leave the front door unlocked for days. We hid a a spare key under a plant pot in the back garden and then couldn't find it again!!

We now have a keypad front door lock. Life changing.

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 02/12/2019 22:18

We also have a number pad lock box. Incredibly handy.

JaceLancs · 02/12/2019 22:19

Next door has a key
DM has a key
DP has a key
DD has a key
If I or DS got locked out plenty of options!

smugmug · 02/12/2019 22:19

Key safe on wall

alphajuliet123 · 02/12/2019 22:19

@Scrowy - good luck claiming any house insurance if you get burgled.

steff13 · 02/12/2019 22:20

No, we have a keypad with a code. We each have a key, but if you don't have it, you can get in through the garage with the keypad.
