Where do you hide it?

OP posts:
Vulpine · 02/12/2019 22:52

Not sure why you have to hide key inside the house

TowerRingInferno · 02/12/2019 22:53

In a key safe which itself is hidden somewhere strange.

AnneTwackie · 02/12/2019 22:54

Bye everyone I’m off to live with @scrowy

BrokenWing · 02/12/2019 22:55

We have 7 keys for our house (the same key does the front and back doors)

1 on dh van keys
1 on my car keys
1 in ds's school bag
1 in inside lock on front door
1 as a spare on the kitchen hooks I use when car sharing
1 with dog walker
1 on Keyring with shed keys also on the kitchen key hooks

Back door doesn't need a key as it is a thumb turn to lock it.

Quite happy for any burglar to find a key, steal what they want and get out without waking us!

kerkyra · 02/12/2019 22:56

Spare key hidden in shed and another shoved in the wall, just incase

LabourHere · 02/12/2019 22:57

In our old house I had a little spare key treasure hunt! (Figured the burgers wouldn't have figured it all out!!)

Key to the shed was under the plant pot. Once in the shed, the key to key box was hidden on a shelf under some oil. Once in the key box, the key to the second.keu box was there!!! Once in the second key box, the key to the back door could be found!

easy! ...

saraclara · 02/12/2019 22:58

I have a key safe. It's saved me a couple of times. It's also been useful if I've been away and needed a neighbour or relative to pop in for some reason.

LabourHere · 02/12/2019 22:59

Burglers not burgers!! (though the thought of a little cheeseburger trying to break into my house is making me chuckle!!)

TwatCat · 02/12/2019 22:59

We have a key safe as I don't trust my DS(15) with a key as he loses everything all the time.

Celebelly · 02/12/2019 22:59

Yes, but we have a trail of keys to get to the proper key! So first there's a hidden key to summerhouse, where there's a hidden key to the garage, where there's a hidden key to the house. It's like one of those locked room mysteries where you have to keep solving puzzles

Fifthtimelucky · 02/12/2019 23:00

We have a key safe too. Very handy indeed. But a neighbour also has a spare key.

LabourHere · 02/12/2019 23:00

To all the people with key safes - where are they?

Tun55 · 02/12/2019 23:06

Our old house garden had a damaged fence panel. we could just push it a bit and walk into my garden from the neighbours garden.
I had 4 small jars of seeds and a bag of bird feed in the garden shed along with gardening equipment. One of those jars had a key hidden! Its impossible for anyone to guess it could be there!!

TwatCat · 02/12/2019 23:08

To all the people with key safes - where are they?

Right outside the front door on the door reveal.

VanGoghsDog · 02/12/2019 23:08

I have one I keep on the same rack as my key, to give to visitors/builders etc. (it's currently with the decorator)

I have one in the drawer in the living room.

I keep one hidden in the shed and the shed has a combi lock on it - that one is for if I get locked out, or for dp if he forgets to bring his and I'm not in.

safariboot · 02/12/2019 23:09

The spare house key is in the car, the spare car key is in the house. Our front door doesn't self lock so I figure that should cover me for any likely situations. Though I have wondered if I should stash spare keys at work instead.

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 02/12/2019 23:09

Under the flower pot

safariboot · 02/12/2019 23:10

Actually now that I think about it, that's not very helpful if I lose or am robbed of both keys when they're in my pocket, d'oh. I should rethink.

JE17 · 02/12/2019 23:11

I often leave one somewhere near to the back door, it would be easy to find if someone came searching but there's also our dog in the same area. There's a front door key well hidden somewhere in our garage which I've needed to dig out once. DD needs to use the spare keys quite often.

StarClaws · 02/12/2019 23:14

good luck claiming any house insurance if you get burgled

I would imagine that someone who leaves the door unlocked with the key in the lock is probably not particularly worried about getting burgled.

Daffodil55 · 02/12/2019 23:15

I keep a spare key in my purse so if when out and bout I lose the bunch of keys I normally use I can at least get back in to my house.

One relative has had a spare for years and I recently asked does she still have it. She replied oh yes somewhere I suppose. Not very encouraging so I may rethink my arrangements.

happinessischocolate · 02/12/2019 23:16

We have a keysafe which is outside and not noticeable unless you know where to look, as although they're pretty sturdy the kids don't twirl the numbers enough after using it. It contains front door, back door and patio door keys in case anyone's left a key in one of the doors so you can't get in 🙄

Purpleartichoke · 02/12/2019 23:17

ILs have our spare key at their house. We also have an electronic code access option on one entrance.

RiftGibbon · 02/12/2019 23:20

One is in a wall-mounted cupboard, away from the door/letterbox. Each of our next door neighbours have a spare key too.
We also have a key safe, but haven't had worked out the combination in the three years we have lived here ( the people we bought from didn't mention it).

DontCallMeShitley · 02/12/2019 23:21

Due to the amount of break ins round here recently there is no way on earth I would leave a key anywhere. We have one that we use to lock ourselves in, one each and a friend has one which would be no use if we were locked out as they live miles away and don't have a car.

We have a security door and a letterbox that bites fingers off, set at the bottom of the door for maximum security so no hope of getting in ourselves without a key.

An intruder would need to go out the way they got in.
