Listening to statistician on BBC who reckons the conservatives are head in all polls and will win a majority on election day.

I know only two people voting conservative (mil and dm). Who are all the other conservative voters??

Are the conservatives really going to win the election so easily?

If so...I'm very very sad Sad Wine

Yes, all of us thehorse, even Conservative voters, they just don't realise it yet.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/12/2019 23:16

Unfortunately I think the far left have too much of a stronghold on the party so if Corbyn goes he will be replaced by someone from the far left

Oh lord, don't say that!! Shock

For some of us, the whole point of voting Tory this time isn't that we're really keen on them; it's more about hoping it'll force Labour to come to their senses so we get a better choice next time (and an effective opposition for now)

Pixxie7 · 03/12/2019 23:19

The tories saved trillions of pounds with their change in pensions so where has all that money gone? Not to the country that’s for sure.

So you're voting Tory to get a more effective opposition? I've heard it all now..

Indeed. What sort of fuckwit justifies voting for lying right-wing fascists on the basis Labour aren’t right wing enough?

Cattenberg · 03/12/2019 23:30

I live in a predominately Tory, Leaver constituency. Our Tory MP is lazy and has a reputation for rarely bothering to answer letters from constituents. A family friend of ours has been doorstepping for the Tories and according to him, our MP is his biggest problem. Many people here support the Tories, but don’t like our cold, two-faced, self-serving MP.

She’ll probably get in again with a stonking majority. It makes you despair. Her voting record is appalling and she clearly doesn’t give a shit about her constituents. Yet, all she has to do is say “let’s get Brexit done” or “a vote for anyone else is a vote for Jeremy Corbyn and she’ll get a majority of at least 10,000.

Hingeandbracket · 03/12/2019 23:37

@Cattenburg just more evidence of how shit our FPTP system is.

Defies belief. Makes you wonder why Pankhurst bothered.

ArseDarkly · 04/12/2019 00:13

Seriously. People go on about the irresponsibility of giving 16 year-olds the vote but the rank stupidity of some 'adult' voters makes a mockery of such arguments.

CendrillonSings · 04/12/2019 01:09

Voting Conservative to crush Foot and Kinnock did in fact lead the Labour Party to chose better, more moderate and electable leaders like John Smith and Tony Blair. There is thus direct historical precedent for this, despite your silly pooh-poohing.

TomPinch · 04/12/2019 01:31

Isn't the point that you vote for the best option, rather than the party you like? I might prefer Labour, but think they're the worse option in this election.

As for Labour: words fail me. They lost in 2010. They lost in 2015. They lost in 2017 - under Corbyn - and they're going to lose again next week.

4 losses on the trot. 2 under the same leader. No wins since Blair led them. In fact, Blair is the only Labour leader in my lifetime who won. Yet they think they "won" 2017 because they increased their vote.

I genuinely think there are some in the Labour Party who would genuinely rather remain ideologically pure rather than win an election and form a government.

Can you imagine the Tories losing 4 on the trot or keeping the same unsuccessful leader?

Labour should be cruising home in this election.

anothernamejeeves · 04/12/2019 01:34

Lol @ Tony Blair being a moderate leader

Spamantha · 04/12/2019 05:14

Not sure why anyone would 'lol' at that?

ChristmasAngst · 04/12/2019 06:55

Taxes are going to have to go up.

You see this is where my blood starts to boil. With income, NI, council tax and VAT my household is paying much more than half of what we earn in taxes.

I actually work for a charity where I deal with people on UC and deal with their issues. During my time there I have only met 1 person who genuinely couldn't work. The others didn't want to. I am from a WC background and am from a street where half of them were unemployed. They made no effort to find jobs and did a lot of work cash in hand.

I'm really happy to pay for genuine people in need but before you tax me and other ambitious, self sufficient people like me MORE, I want to see that other people are also contributing, not just taking.

I am so sick of trying to improve the lives of my family and pay for myself and not be a burden on the state and then being told I am a greedy b'stard.

Honestly, I work with people in benefits and a very large amount of them shouldn't be on them. Get them working and paying tax rather than milking the cow dead.

TheRightHonerable · 04/12/2019 07:43

Taxes are going to have to go up.

Benefits being reduced would cause the same impact. The country needs to free more money for funding education, NHS and care but taxes going up are not the only way to achieve this 😬

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/12/2019 10:06

Quite so. I'm the first to admit there's an aspect of voting for "least worst", but if the aim's to get back to more centrist policies - and for me it is - then forcing change in the current Labour party seems a way to secure better choice in future, even if we have to tolerate a party we don't really want for now

And sorry, but I don't respond to name-calling obscenities; perhaps those who are fond of using them might want to consider what it actually achieves?

Viciously insulting the voters is such an effective way to win hearts and minds Smile

ArseDarkly · 04/12/2019 11:53

It's an appropriate word for someone who knows the damage they are inflicting but goes ahead anyway out of self-interest.

Considering the goading trash you constantly spew out cendrillon you are certainly not in a position to judge.

ArseDarkly · 04/12/2019 11:55

Wow - so it's ok to describe someone as a fuckwit but not viciously selfish?? Confused

CendrillonSings · 04/12/2019 12:00

It's an appropriate word for someone who knows the damage they are inflicting but goes ahead anyway out of self-interest.

You mean like Corbynites who are willing to trash the economy as long as they get to have other people’s money “redistributed” to them? ‘Cos that sounds pretty self-interested, don’t you think? Wink

ArseDarkly · 04/12/2019 12:00

Deleting it doesn't change the truth. People who are voting Tory to try to force change in Labour are acting in bad faith and inflicting damage on others out of naked self-interest and that is very wrong.

Xenia · 04/12/2019 12:04

People have very strong views and we are at a key time in the election cycle. What I want mumsnetters to do is stand back and have a good look at Labour and the Tories and decide which will be best for Britain( which si the Tories of course).

Let us see who wins later this month. However do vote - the last thing I want is Tories who think it is in the bag to stay at home. Get out there as early as you can down to the polling both before anything can distract you from it or make you forget to do it.
