So this one was going round the pub the other night and I thought it was a lot of fun. And actually quite thought provoking. So... can you guess my age from these 5 facts.

  1. I legally bought cigarettes at 16... and had them in the smoking room at work.
  2. my first concert was a Smash hits tour headlining Sean Maguire and Boyzone
  3. I paid tuition fees at university
  4. my favourite outfit as a pre-teen was from tammy girl
  5. I have no IT qualifications, including GCSEs. I never had a dedicated 'IT' subject on my school timetable.

So what year was I born???

And play along... :)

Oh scrap that, the Welsh devolution ref was in 1979 wasn't it?

Howlovely · 02/12/2019 18:18

1979 is my guess although the devolution clue makes me think it could be 1980. What a fun game!

tried20names · 02/12/2019 18:18
  1. I'm 83 and I think tuition fees came in during my 1st year at uni. I did have computer science classes towards the end of high school though so I'm going for a couple of years older
Letthemysterybe · 02/12/2019 18:19

I reckon that most of the facts point to you being born in the same year as me -1980. But maybe you just went to some under resourced schools, as I definitely had IT lessons all through school - though I think in primary school there was just one computer kept in the stationary cupboard!

KatzP · 02/12/2019 18:19

I’m going for 1980 (although depending on month I’d say after sept 1979 and possibly up to 1985)

HotSince82 · 02/12/2019 18:20

I'm thirty six, born in 82 but definitely had IT at school.
You must be about 39 by my reckoning so 79 or 81.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 02/12/2019 18:21

You're older than me but only by a few years I reckon. Born in 1979?

orangeteal · 02/12/2019 18:21

I think people are guessing too old, I think you're a few years older than me, perhaps a teenager when I was a child from what you've said, so 36-38?

rhubarbcrumbles · 02/12/2019 18:22

We did computing at secondary school and I started in 1980.

HyacynthBucket · 02/12/2019 18:23

1977

runthebank · 02/12/2019 18:24

FlorenceDayingale · 02/12/2019 18:24

1986?!

DeathStare · 02/12/2019 18:24

Well tuition fees were introduced in 1998 so the earliest you could have been born is 1980. And the age for buying cigarettes was increased to 18 in 2007, same year that smoking in public (indoor) places was banned. So you could actually have been born as late as 1991.

I believe Sean Maguire and Boyzone were on the Smash Hits Tour in 1995 (significant year for me!) which would make you a maximum of 15 when you went to see them and a minimum of 4. Though I'm guessing you were probably at the older end of that range.

The other clues are kind of red herrings. People have been able to take IT qualifications for decades - you just didn't.

Tammy Girl was big throughout the 90s - so that would fit for you being born anytime between 1980 and 1991 (as above)

From the Smash Hits Tour clue I'm guessing you were born in 1981.

I need to find a hobby, don't I? Grin

Mixingitall · 02/12/2019 18:25

University tuition fees came in from a September 1998, the Welsh Referendum was 1997. Therefore I think you could be 40, but most likely 39.

EL8888 · 02/12/2019 18:26

1981 probably. Maybe 1982?

DaisyDaisydoo · 02/12/2019 18:26

1980

lynxca16 · 02/12/2019 18:26

Your 96's year old

goodwinter · 02/12/2019 18:27

@doadeer were you born around 1989?

Queenoftheashes · 02/12/2019 18:27

1981 and 39

raspberryk · 02/12/2019 18:27

I was born in 87 and I have no IT qualification we didn't take it as standard it may have been an optional one for us I don't remember.
All of the rest is very similar to me growing up so I was going to say because of the housing thing maybe just a few years older than me, but then the referendum has thrown me as I don't remember anything about that...
My initial guess would have been maybe 1983/4 , but I'm edging further towards 1980 now.

ThebishopofBanterbury · 02/12/2019 18:27

1983

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/12/2019 18:28

PositiveVibez · 02/12/2019 18:28

I was born in 77, bit we did 'business studies' in senior school where we got to go on computers, so I'm going to say a little earlier 73/74
