We’ve had a couple of doozies lately - the woman who was told her Morrison’s jacket potato should fill her up for the rest of the day and was unreasonable to cook a roast after a ‘treat lunch’; the woman who thought her husband was ordering too much pizza and

WTF is a lentil dinner?Confused

Footiefan2019 · 30/11/2019 14:36

I only eat until I’m full also. I don’t think feeling uncomfortably full or bloated is something anyone likes, somehow. I just am full after two slices of pizza sometimes, or another day I could eat a massive roast and have dessert and cheese after. It depends. I listen to my body. It works for me. I just hate when people criticize other people’s desire to eat more than they are eating - I think a lot of people, whether they’ll admit it or not, get a kick out of not eating much

KatherineJaneway · 30/11/2019 14:36

My fave was a debate about a buffet. How much would you eat on first going up. I had experienced a buffet running out due to people taking far more than is a reasonable portion and I was called a competitive under eater Hmm I love my food but I got to the buffet and there was no food left. People taking 3 x large sausage rolls each for example along with plates piled high with food.

One woman had a go at me for being a competitive under eater and kept bitching about me on other threads. I love my food and cook and eat like a pro!

Biggie123 · 30/11/2019 14:38

@myduckiscooked you all just eat one to twice slices of pizza for dinner?

19lottie82 · 30/11/2019 14:38

WTF is a lentil dinner

A dinner made from lentils?

TruffleShuffles · 30/11/2019 14:38

It’s always the pizza ones. There was one a while back asking how many slices of pizza you would normally eat. It seemed to either be people who were stuffed after two slices or the pigs like me who can polish off an entire pizza without it touching the sides. I don’t think either group were particularly complimentary of each other.

spacepyramid · 30/11/2019 14:38

I'd order a small main too if I wanted a starter and dessert. I really couldn't manage a 3 course meal with a full size main course.

and that's fine @Elphame but presumably you don't make a big song of dance of telling the waitress that you can't eat as much as the others at the table in a way that makes them sound greedy?

ManiacalLapwing · 30/11/2019 14:39

No wonder only about 30% of adults are eating 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, with the huge portions of everything else they are eating, and the posters who claim that it's 'boring' to have half a plate of salad/veg sides with half a plate of pizza.

TruffleShuffles · 30/11/2019 14:40

You go know you can put veg on the pizza don’t you @ManiacalLapwing?

Footiefan2019 · 30/11/2019 14:41

@KatherineJaneway omg I hate buffet greed though that’s the only time you can judge someone’s plate hahaha... take some and then go back for more if necessary but be sensible ! It’s sharing !

FlamingoAndJohn · 30/11/2019 14:42

WTF is a lentil dinner?

A dinner made from lentils I would assume.

For me the classic one was where the op outlined what she ate in a day, porridge for breakfast, salad for lunch plain chicken with vegetables for dinner. Ever poster was saying that it was far too much food and they couldn’t possibly eat that much.

Also there was the one where an au pair was complaining about having sandwiches for lunch everyday and people where saying that they would be ill if they ate sandwiches every day.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 30/11/2019 14:42

The one with the poster that had jacket potato for lunch and then chicken and veg for dinner. I mean how greedy a WHOLE potato and then roast chicken and veg, of course many posters could never fit all that in a day.

Also love the peas are balls of sugar and feeding your dc fruit is like giving a mars bar brigade

MontanaSkies · 30/11/2019 14:43

My favourite ever actually wasn't on here, but on a Guardian comment thread ages ago.

Under an article about sugar addiction, someone wrote that they'd given up sugar, so now if they really fancied a sweet treat they'd have a dry piece of white toast, as the sugars from the bread caramelised on the outside.

I always think about that when I'm slapping extra jam on my toast...

Singlebutmarried · 30/11/2019 14:44

Some days I eat and some days I don’t.

I’ve just had a bowl of soup, toast, bag of crisps and 5 Oreos.

I may not eat later on though. Or just a sandwich.

I’m feeling crap today though and hopefully I’ll feel like eating properly again tomorrow.

ManiacalLapwing · 30/11/2019 14:45

You go know you can put veg on the pizza don’t you @ManiacalLapwing? Obviously, but you are unlikely to be eating enough servings without some on the side as well.

It's brilliant that this thread has become a competitive undereating thread within one page.

Elphame · 30/11/2019 14:50

@spacepyramid - no I don't but I generally have to reassure the waiting staff that the food was fine when 2/3rds of the plateful is returned....

I am btw 65kg at 5 10 so by no means underweight for my height. I just have a very efficient metabolism and always have had. I eat what I like when I like - just not usually in large portions (unless it's doughnuts. All bets are off when it comes to doughnuts or yum yums!)

And this is why we have an obesity crisis. If you eat according to your appetite and moderate that daily, or you don't want to eat a full three course meal you're competitively under eating,

Any healthy calorie intake is perceived by some as some form of eating disorder.

53rdWay · 30/11/2019 14:51

And no one was saying half a sandwich between an adult and a child was enough for lunch. No one

You'll be delighted I'm sure to know that I just went and looked up that thread to be sure my memory wasn't entirely forsaking me, and yes, yes they were. Someone even said "this is why we have a childhood obesity problem" Grin

There is definitely a culture of mildly/moderately disordered eating in this country, and for women in particular. I remember this when I was a waitress - if you were taking dessert orders from a table, the women were about 40x more likely to keep you there for ages through a whole speech of "no, no I couldn't POSSIBLY, I'm full up to the gills, no appetite at all these days, well maybe a tiny cheese plate, well maybe I could go halves on that if you're having something Mary - oh you're not? No me neither, I'm absolutely stuffed!... how big are the slices there? oooooh maybe I could just have a liiiiiiiiittle naughty treat" before ordering whatever it was they'd clearly wanted in the first place.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 30/11/2019 14:52

My favourite is a woman on here showing utter disbelief that people could @ find the time to eat more than once a day” 😀

Bluntness100 · 30/11/2019 14:52

On this I agree with you and this thread is a prime example of it.

Footiefan2019 · 30/11/2019 14:53

@Elphame why waste so much food ? Take it home or something

53rdWay · 30/11/2019 14:53

(and before anyone leaps in with "so you're saying that anyone who doesn't want dessert has an EATING DISORDER?", no I'm not, I'm saying that someone who views any food as a 'naughty treat' that they need to be seen as refusing but will eat anyway regardless doesn't have the healthiest attitude to food.)

ChrisPrattsFace · 30/11/2019 14:54

I obviously must skip those ones because I’m an absolute pig. No hesitation in ordering deserts from me! 😂

JasonPollack · 30/11/2019 14:54

Oh the delicious irony. People just can't help themselves but come to be holy can they?

What about the one where the mum had no bread so she put a sausage roll in her child's lunch box. Hilarious pearl clutching on that one.
