AIBU to think cheesecake is the best dessert ever invented, bar none? We are having friends over tonight and there's a white chocolate and stem ginger cheesecake in the oven. It smells divine.

Don't think I've ever had a cheesecake I didn't love. Always my default choice if it's on a restaurant menu. Went through a phase of loving Bailey's cheesecake too.

AIBU to think if you don't love cheesecake there's something wrong with you??

YANBU. When I first tasted cheesecake my tastebuds literally went WHY HASN’T THIS BEEN ON THE MENU THE WHOLE TIME Grin

iklboo · 30/11/2019 11:15

Cheesecake is wonderful. So many varieties. So many toppings.

MustardScreams · 30/11/2019 11:15

God no, it’s such a can’t be fucked dessert. Unless it’s a Basque burnt cheesecake, which are divine.

You know you’ve got a pastry chef that’s given up when the dessert menu is cheesecake, creme brûlée, chocolate fondat and a token vegan sorbet.

DonKeyshot · 30/11/2019 11:23

I'm so glad you're baking your cheesecake, OP.

I love New York and other baked cheesecakes, but the whipped up glop spread over crushed biscuit crumbs is not cheesecake as I know it and it has no appeal whatsoever for me.

PineappleDanish · 30/11/2019 11:26

I have made non baked cheesecakes in the past. They're ok, prefer the baked ones though.

Tricky.....

I have had delicious cheesecakes, but most of the time I find them soooo disappointing. Sickly sweet, claggy....yes, Cheescake Factory San Francisco, I'm looking at you - your cheesecakes are the stuff of nightmares.

PineappleDanish · 30/11/2019 11:39

I went to a wedding once and dessert was advertised as a "cheese cake". It was a selection of cheeses arranged to look like cake. The disappointment.

Cheesecake is the ONLY dessert I can't resist.

I am not a dessert person at all. But cheeeeeesecaaaaaaake 😋

FrangipaniBlue · 30/11/2019 11:40

You are correct OP that cheesecake is the BEST dessert however YABU for saying the baked variety is best Angry

I made a kinder chocolate cheesecake last night - 1/3 of it has gone already and there's only 3 of us in our household Grin

amusedbush · 30/11/2019 11:42

I love the creamy bit of cheesecake but the base gives me the boke 🤢 I hate the two textures together and the biscuit gets stuck in my teeth.

Nigella's peanut butter cheesecake is absolute heaven.

Turt · 30/11/2019 11:51

YANBU! My second favourite is creme brûlée 😍

Sofast · 30/11/2019 11:53

Love cheesecake, baked and none baked. This Christmas I'm doing a nutella one which is no bake, quick and easy which is perfect with all the other christmas stuff going on

My favourite ever was a baked white chocolate and orange one

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 30/11/2019 11:56

Dp brought home a chocolate and salted caramel one that had been reduced in coop the other day. I don’t think I’ve ever loved him more

TokenGinger · 30/11/2019 12:16

I have never made a baked cheesecake! My DP is obsessed with my fridge version of a white chocolate cheesecake.

Please could I have your recipe for the oven one for try for him?

PineappleDanish · 30/11/2019 12:19

It's from the bbc good food website - a Mary Berry one I think. Dead easy.

Love a cheesecake, it is my favourite desert, but not baked and no philidelpha allowed.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 30/11/2019 12:25

The baked variety was made by the devil.

However the normal set in the fridge cheesecake, us normal folk eat is great. Yesterday I made a Terry’s chocolate orange one, white chocolate it a favourite too, also made with lemon curd mixed in to the cream mix. Chocolate baileys makes a good one too

TokenGinger · 30/11/2019 12:25

Thank you! I'll search for it :)

babycatcher411 · 30/11/2019 12:29

Oh man. Now I want cheesecake, badly!!

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 30/11/2019 12:36

Non baked is definitely my favourite and I love it. Years ago Waitrose used to do a mix and match individual cheese cake which was amazing. You picked a pot with either ginger base and vanilla cheesecake, digestive base and vanilla cheesecake or chocolate biscuit base and vanilla cheesecake. Then little pots of topping that you scooped on - strawberry, chocolate or toffee.

Yum yum yum.

Rainbowtheunicorn · 30/11/2019 12:36

There is nothing better than a New York cheesecake. I feel like anything else doesn’t do it justice. You can’t mess with classic flavours and that rich, smooth, creamy but dense texture. Why have it any other way? Grin
