to wonder what the fuck this current obsession is with those black and white vans shoes?

I think they are vans. Are they the new converse or something?! Nearly every female in their teens 20s and even 30s seem to be wearing these hideous shoes. Why? Is it like the superdry bollocks?

They’re so comfortable. I had a pair of checkered Vans years ago but I was living in a damp flat at the time & lots of my clothes & shoes went mildewy Sad They were never the same!

Myusername101 · 29/11/2019 16:14

Why do people do anything? Usually because they like the thing.

Pipandmum · 29/11/2019 16:14

My son stopped wearing Van's as they were so ubiquitous. He told me this and next time on the tube about four people in our carriage had the black and white ones on .

RexDangerVest · 29/11/2019 16:19

I agree they are very ugly so must be comfortable?!

SmoothOrange · 29/11/2019 16:19

Vans have been around for years. They are a great quality shoe if you ask me.

Comfortable too. In fact I am wearing a pair now, and have another at home... and I have asked for more for christmas!

PapayaCoconut · 29/11/2019 16:21

Dsis has them. She says they're OK, not that comfortable.

AfterSchoolWorry · 29/11/2019 16:24

😂

Dhalandchips · 29/11/2019 16:26

They really are very comfy (49 year old, nicked 12yo ds's!)

Wheresthebiffer2 · 29/11/2019 16:27

I wonder why you have to swear in the title of your thread? for extra attention. well I don't like it.
And the answer to your question is - it's fashion. young people do fashion.

ActualHornist · 29/11/2019 16:27

Oh @Pipandmum your son is definitely far too cool for school Wink

They’ve been around since the 90s they’re just popular again. I don’t like the slip on style but the lace ups (not checkered) are really comfy IMO. My go to.

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 29/11/2019 16:28

Ok boomer

mistydayswampwitch · 29/11/2019 16:29

They're not new. I had a pair when I was a teenager. I'm in my 30's now. People wear them for the same reason they wear anything. Because they like them. Converse were fashionable in the 50's-70's. Then the 00's. Fashion comes back round if it's worth it.

Monday55 · 29/11/2019 16:29

Send us a pic of your casual shoes OP.

hammeringinmyhead · 29/11/2019 16:31

I've had my Vans originals for about 5 years and I bought them because they were getting popular then. I didn't think this was new!

Chocolateandamaretto · 29/11/2019 16:32

Checked vans slip ins were huge when I was a teenager! Are they a thing again? I hadn’t noticed...shows how in touch I am Grin I had a pair - I found them comfy but not very hard wearing!

LoonyLunaLoo · 29/11/2019 16:33

I don’t like the slip on ones but I live in Vans old skools! I even have fancy going out ones 😂. I have been a bit VSCO since long before it was a thing though...

ghostyslovesheets · 29/11/2019 16:36

I like them - my older two have a few pairs - black and white, check, slip on/high top/lace up - I have a blue pair - they are just trainers really - I also have 2 pairs of Air Force (beige suede and grey) - they are comfy with jeans

What do you wear OP - please share your choices!

username108 · 29/11/2019 16:39

Im talking about the black lace up ones with a white stripe/tick. I wear black leather flat shoes

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 29/11/2019 16:39

I've been wearing the black and white ones since I was a teen and bought my baby son a pair from the vans shop in Bristol as soon as they fit him 😳
They are so comfy and go with pretty much every outfit I wear. But yes you are correct they are EVERYWHERE at the moment

Bezalelle · 29/11/2019 16:40

I went to a Bar Mitzvah last weekend where the theme was Vans check! They'd made commemorative skull-caps using the pattern.

QuietlyFuming · 29/11/2019 16:42

I’ve got a couple of pairs of lace up Vans, they’re really comfortable.
I’ll either wear those or Nike Air Force 1s or Air Max 97s. I’m a bit of a trainer addict though and have far too many pairs.

Whatsmyageagain0 · 29/11/2019 16:42

They are comfy until you get plantar fasciitis off wearing them and have to buy fancy insoles as a result

beelzeboob · 29/11/2019 16:43

@SlightlyStaleCocoPops
Ok boomer?? Is the OP a baby boomer?

AlexaAmbidextra · 29/11/2019 16:57

Ok boomer

Oh please. Please let’s not start that on here. It isn’t remotely witty. 😴

adaline · 29/11/2019 17:00

I wore vans as a teenager in the early noughties!

I have a bright cherry red pair at the moment but not seen the black and white ones.
