to wonder what the fuck this current obsession is with those black and white vans shoes?

I think they are vans. Are they the new converse or something?! Nearly every female in their teens 20s and even 30s seem to be wearing these hideous shoes. Why? Is it like the superdry bollocks?

OP posts:
hammeringinmyhead · 29/11/2019 22:11

They are amazing. I walked miles around Boston in mine for 5 days, while pregnant, and they didn't rub once.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 29/11/2019 22:21

They’re actually not great for everyday – they’re skateboarding shoes so really flat and not particularly supportive. Birkenstocks may be ugly but they’re orthopaedic!

carrie74 · 29/11/2019 22:22

They're a design classic! I remember my older teenaged brother wearing them in the mid 80s (well, his were the skate style) and envying his cool-ness. I wore them in the 2000s, it they're too wide for my feet so I can't wear them (otherwise I'd have a pair of the checkerboard skate shoes).

northerngirl2012 · 29/11/2019 22:26

My 12 year old DD loves hers, we’re the same size. Occasionally I’ve been known to wear hers around the house, they totally rick!

I am so out of it I had to google them. They do look comfortable and cool.
Unfortunately thanks to arthritis and narrow feet I tend to wear mainly fitflop or Clarks. I have lost count on how many pairs of fitflops I have.
If I could I would likely wear these.

Menora · 29/11/2019 23:09

I keep thinking about getting some. They look comfy
I have 2 pairs of converse and I love them
I also have 2 pairs of Nike Air Dia’s and they are the most comfortable shoes ever
Comfort wins!

GorkyMcPorky · 29/11/2019 23:12

Ok boomer

Someone was desperate to get that in. My sister have been wearing them for a good 10 years. My DH had them even longer ago. I understand neither the OP not the above comment.

hazeyjane · 29/11/2019 23:15

...when I was young you never got the same as anyone else you had some thing slightly different.

Early 30s, so young teen in the early 2000s....Uggs anyone?

Linnet · 29/11/2019 23:20

My daughter has them in yellow.

Wholewheelofbrie · 30/11/2019 00:37

😂😂 I’ve been thinking the same thing. They just look like deck shoes! Deck shoes are not comfortable!

Wholewheelofbrie · 30/11/2019 00:41

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie was that genuine typo or did you actually mean to call them Fifa!! Either way you made me do a lovely little chortle. It’s Fila. And yes I know what you mean and yes they’re bloody awful. I can’t believe any of them actually like them it’s just a fad. I love trainers but they are not nice!

malificent7 · 30/11/2019 00:57

Bit of agism creeping on thread here. Vans are cool if you are 5 or 95.

MeTheCoolOne · 30/11/2019 01:55

C'mon OP, you should post a photo of your shoes 😁.
My DDs both wear Vans and one of them has a pair of black and white ones. They are comfortable and go with anything. I don't think people who wear them are trying to make a statement.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 30/11/2019 02:25

Well I'm swiftly edging towards 40 and I've been wearing vans since my teens, when they weren't that heard of. They're comfortable and pretty much ,bomb proof.

So I'll carry on wearing them along with all the other old fogies if you don't mind.

PavlovsDeafDog · 30/11/2019 02:37

@AlexaAmbidextra
Ok boomer

Oh please. Please let’s not start that on here. It isn’t remotely witty.

Oh Lordy - I agree.

I hope it doesn't show up here regularly as yet another thing I'll want to rip my hair out, every time I see it!

Countryescape · 30/11/2019 03:32

They’re so ugly!

ivfbabymomma1 · 30/11/2019 03:39

Myself, my husband & my baby all have the exact shoes in question 😂😫 we don't all wear them at the same time! (well me and baby do) they are so comfy, they go with everything!

ForalltheSaints · 30/11/2019 06:42

Some people are just fashion victims as I term it. Just look at the saddos who have cut the bottom three or four inches from their jeans, as an example.

Juancornetto · 30/11/2019 07:02

I've noticed this in too the past few months. So many women and girls in my town wear them - the specific ones attached. Mostly early teens through to early 40's. I know Vans have always been popular but it's been really noticable to me recently how many people are wearing this particular style. I find it interesting that it's this particular style and colourway as well - Puma classics and Converse One stars are similar but I don't see people wearing them, or other black and white trainers, it's always these particular ones and always this colour.

Not judging, I quite like them, I just have found it noticable that they've become such a thing round here relatively recently

StreetwiseHercules · 30/11/2019 07:11

I don’t believe Vans or Converse are comfortable. I’ve tried Converse and as well as being uncomfortable they were also very poor quality. Vans and Converse are mostly hideous too. I’m as baffled as the OP.

Menora · 30/11/2019 07:50

Well stay baffled
My leather converse will last for many many years. And haven’t fallen apart. The canvas are not practical for me

I hate people bashing on these things - what has it got to do with anyone if they want to wear a particular shoe and like them? Argh

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 30/11/2019 08:05

Christ Almighty I was joking when I said "ok boomer" will some of you just relax 😂

Ruraldream · 30/11/2019 08:14

A student called me boomer the other day! I didn't know what it meant but explained to him about baby boomers, was I wrong??

NightsOfCabiria · 30/11/2019 13:02

It was a put-down to dismiss your comments (as outdated).
