BBC news output is a total disgrace

For a long time they were accused of having a left-wing bias and there was definitely some truth in that, despite their constant banging-on about their impartiality.

Now they have swung the other way and are clearly biased against Labour. I remember being amazed at a 'profile' of Corbyn soon after his election as Labour leader - it was such an obvious hatchet job I couldn't believe it had been cleared for broadcast.

They have hammered the Labour antisemitism issue endlessly but let Tory islamophobia and antisemitism go by. They have at least twice been caught out editing footage of Johnson to show him in a more positive light.

Yesterday we saw an extremely combative interview of Corbyn by the ridiculously puffed-up Andrew Neil. Apparently Labour were assured by the BBC beforehand that Johnson had also committed to an interview with Neil. Now we hear that they have not got any such commitment and the lying scumbag will almost certainly refuse to turn up.

Their journalistic standards have been fatally corrupted by their desire to suck up to whoever will be in government and make sure the money keeps rolling in for the fat salaries of the top dogs.

blue tie

He will do the interview

No way he'll be doing that interview. Who's going to make him? Even if he wanted to do it, which obviously he doesn't, his team would never allow it.

Corbyn has ruined politics for me and has left me politically homeless

I was always a labour voter and party member form 20 (I’m nearing 50)

That I don’t despise Boris as much is because I don’t feel any passion for the Tory party I just do not agree with their general policies

But do carry on with your analysis

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 28/11/2019 00:27

I think you are over looking the home goal that Corbyn has just scored

Regardless of how difficult this interview shall (as it always is with AN) be he will have a platform to mention Corbyn’s fuck up

curlykaren · 28/11/2019 00:29

I'm confused, haven't the BBC already admitted that Boris won't be doing it?

woolie34 · 28/11/2019 00:30

Yes. It's ridiculous that we have to pay for a no longer impartial outlet. They are shamelessly bias.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 28/11/2019 00:35

He hasn’t set a date for the interview

Not that he has declined the interview

GrumpyHoonMain · 28/11/2019 00:42

They only belief in impartiality when it comes to silencing their BAME staff about racism. They have turned this election into a Muslim vs Jew debate which has scared me.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 28/11/2019 00:45

He will do the interview

What about him has convinced you of this? Is it when he showed up to give his vote on the heathrow expansion plans after passionately arguing against it for years?

Or when he turned up for the televised Tory leadership debate?

Which?

greenlynx · 28/11/2019 01:19

YANBU,
I had the same feeling yesterday. I don’t mind when journalists are asking politicians difficult questions, it’s their job but they (journalists) still should stay calm and respectful. I never felt that Laura Kuenssberg was respectful towards Jeremy Corbyn and it’s not about her style, she was always very nice chatting with Theresa May and now BoJo.
Also BBC coverage of the Chief Rabbi’s statement was far too excessive compared to that of the statement from Muslim Council. Even news about trade talks with the US was downplayed today imo.
Yes, Corbyn wasn’t brilliant at the interview at all. But Andrew Neill had very specific manner of asking questions. It looked like linguistic exercise (and a bit like bullying) when he was asking Corbyn about changes in marriage allowance.
I wonder if some BBC journalists and presenters are worried about the prospect of paying a bit more tax under Labour.

@ferntwist

Here's the now deleted LK tweet, retweeting Piers Morgan FFS.

Hope it uploads.. here goes

BBC news output is a total disgrace
ChestnutTalisman · 28/11/2019 06:53

I completely disagree. I am no Labour or Conservative fan (to say the least!) so am not partisan on this. I think the political journalists of the BBC get it right in terms of neutrality. The leaders need scrutiny and I'm glad AN and LK provide it.

@AhNowTed LK's point was probably agreement with the first part of the tweet.

Beveren · 28/11/2019 07:31

I remember the time when LK tweeted that the law was uncertain on whether there was anything legally wrong if Johnson backtracked on the evidence he had given in court about his intentions. As many highly reputable lawyers pointed out, it wasn't in the least uncertain. She never did explain why she didn't take the elementary step of checking before tweeting that sort of rubbish.

tillytrotter1 · 28/11/2019 07:36

Did you moan about their legendary left wing bias too or do you simplify not like the boot being allegedly on the other foot? Most of their programming outside that interview is still very left wing you'll be comforted to know.

Roussette · 28/11/2019 07:47

Laura K comes from a long-standing Labour-supporting family. I think it shows exactly her lack of bias that you think she is a Tory

What's that got to do with the price of fish?! My family are generations of tory voters. I'm not.

The BBC bias is bad... look at the guests on Question Time. Nigel Farage 34 times, an unelected idiot, and yet not featuring a single pro-EU UK MEP on Question Time in at least nine years, but in that period UKIP MEPs 45 times or thereabouts.

You can't argue with figures and facts .

Roussette · 28/11/2019 07:52

As far as Laura K... I cannot believe she is supposed to be an unbiaised political reporter for the BBC given her twitter feed. She gives her opinions far far too much.

Scotinthenorth · 28/11/2019 07:55

The BBC are so left wing its laughable. Didn’t you see Question Time? Everyone can see it apart from the Corbynistas. They should be held to account.

Roussette · 28/11/2019 07:57

Over the last 10 years (in which the EuropeanUnion & Brexit have been regularly debated) BBCQT has invited UK MEPs onto its show some 50 times.

Every single one has been a Brexit supporter.

Never had a Remainer.

Never had a Labour, LibDem, Green, SNP, or PlaidCymru MEP.
This is up until June 2019, probably far worse since the Election has been announced.

BBC news output is a total disgrace
NameChangeNugget · 28/11/2019 07:58

The BBC is institutionally left wing.

Longtalljosie · 28/11/2019 08:40

That Piers Morgan tweet is about politicians trying to turn press conferences into rallies which is a massive problem for broadcast news especially. I’ve been a journalist for 20 years and it’s only been since the Scottish independence referendum that we’ve seen pressers packed with supporters - it used to be just journalists and there was no expectation anything would be applauded. Now we have questions taken in groups of 3/4 - so the hardest one can be ignored.

We also have a growing abuse of the Representation of the People Act where political parties (usually the incumbent) try to close down coverage by refusing to participate. I don’t know what went on with the Neil interviews but remember it was a snap election so very little time to get stuff up and running, a lot of people to interview and a 6 week campaign. I strongly suspect Johnson agreed to the interview then started chopping and changing on dates. The BBC has now had to front up because it realised it’s been played. But it can’t cause a stink because it’s in an election campaign and is legally bound to be impartial. If I’m right I fully expect that at result + 1 week the director general will be giving a series of strongly worded interviews.

In the mean time the only institution blamed is the BBC. High fives aplenty at Conservative Central Office I’d imagine.

tillytrotter1 · 28/11/2019 10:28

Does no one remember LK's interview of Corbyn over the 'would you press the nuclear button' question? It was aggressive and combative

RUbbish, it's a perfecty reasonable question to ask of a person who might one day be in that position, {God, or whoever, forbid}.

It's certainly better than the stupid How much is a loaf or a pint of milk? That's almost like asking How long is a piece of string?

BastardBBC · 28/11/2019 10:50

The BBC is institutionally left wing

That was true once - and was a major irritant since, as I said in my OP, they always claimed to be impartial. It certainly isn't true now but they still bullshit about impartiality.

OP posts:
Lllot5 · 28/11/2019 10:54

I think that if left wing voters think the bbc is right wing. And right wing voters think the bbc is left wing. That in itself shows they’re doing something right.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 28/11/2019 10:55

'How much is a pint of milk' speaks to how much you are aware of the disparity between average wages and the purchasing power of essential food items.

'Would you press the nuclear button' in a hypothetical situation that hasn't even, nor is ever likely to occur is goady fuckery.

Tvstar · 28/11/2019 11:08

Hmm they don't treat farage well, or Trump, so I don't think it is just the left wing
