BBC news output is a total disgrace

For a long time they were accused of having a left-wing bias and there was definitely some truth in that, despite their constant banging-on about their impartiality.

Now they have swung the other way and are clearly biased against Labour. I remember being amazed at a 'profile' of Corbyn soon after his election as Labour leader - it was such an obvious hatchet job I couldn't believe it had been cleared for broadcast.

They have hammered the Labour antisemitism issue endlessly but let Tory islamophobia and antisemitism go by. They have at least twice been caught out editing footage of Johnson to show him in a more positive light.

Yesterday we saw an extremely combative interview of Corbyn by the ridiculously puffed-up Andrew Neil. Apparently Labour were assured by the BBC beforehand that Johnson had also committed to an interview with Neil. Now we hear that they have not got any such commitment and the lying scumbag will almost certainly refuse to turn up.

Their journalistic standards have been fatally corrupted by their desire to suck up to whoever will be in government and make sure the money keeps rolling in for the fat salaries of the top dogs.

Boris needs to turn up for his round because as Theresa May found out, ducking out when everyone else is present is more detrimental to results than having a bad interview

Ah but that was the despised Maybot Sparkly, everyone's whipping-girl. Not like that charming, winning Boris - if he doesn't turn up his supporters will just say he's 'played a blinder' again.

Btw - For those saying how great Neil is, I haven't accused him of being biased in the interview - of course he was going to be tough on Corbyn, that's what he does.

But, if it is the case that his team misled Labour and the other leaders that Johnson was booked in as well, that is very wrong.

YABU

Andrew Neil is good at his job because all politicians need to be questioned in detail about their policies. He will give the same treatment to Boris and Swinson over the next few days.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 27/11/2019 23:44

I don't believe that for a minute.
Unfortunately the evidence is overwhelming.

"For the many NOT the JEW"

noblegiraffe · 27/11/2019 23:47

Surely the obvious target of ire for Boris Johnson not turning up for his Neil interview should be Boris Johnson?

I see that #chickenJohnson is trending on twitter.

Chloemol · 27/11/2019 23:47

Nice to see them telling the truth about Labour for once

BastardBBC · 27/11/2019 23:48

He will give the same treatment to Boris and Swinson over the next few days

Really. Sure of that are you?

Have you mentioned the bit where the BBC, contrary to their own guidelines for audience participation. Have now on 4 occasions let the same conservative councillor wannabe have questions/airtime on Question Time.
BBC guidelines state that if you have been in the audience in the last ten years you will not be able to participate again.

ferntwist · 27/11/2019 23:53

AhNowTed That is shocking about Laura Kuenssberg tweeting and deleting about pummelling Corbyn. I’m actually surprised she has sunk to that level.
Could you post screen shots?

BastardBBC · 27/11/2019 23:54

Didn't know that curlykaren Shock

Who do I report that to?

OP posts:
curlykaren · 27/11/2019 23:57

Give me a sec @BastardBBC I'll sort out the links for you.

noblegiraffe · 27/11/2019 23:59

Sure of that are you?

Neil interviewed Johnson for the leadership contest. Don’t you remember him catching him out over paragraph 5C of the GATT agreement?

Do you think Neil would damage his reputation to soft-soap this interview? And if you think he would, why is Johnson running scared?

VenusTiger · 28/11/2019 00:00

Neil interviewed Swinson already - complete car crash interview.

@BastardBBC tell me if it works? If not I'll screen shot and direct message you.

BastardBBC · 28/11/2019 00:03

Do you think Neil would damage his reputation to soft-soap this interview?

I meant that Johnson isn't turning up to 'this' interview. Read the posts ffs

For decades the BBC was criticised by right wing politicians for what they saw as strong left / liberal bias and an institutional obsession with diversity and political correctness. They had a point. The BBC treated Eurosceptics as cranks and simply refused to acknowledge the existence of legitimate concerns about immigration.

Then the Brexit referendum happened. To its credit, the BBC bent over backwards to be strictly impartial during the campaign, a fact which even some of its biggest critics acknowledged. Leave then won, and the BBC was as stunned by the shock result as the rest of the British establishment. They then realised just how out of touch they were with England outside the M25, most of which voted overwhelmingly for Leave. They realised they needed to change. This explains why they now appear pro-Brexit to some Remainers.

BastardBBC · 28/11/2019 00:07

That worked curlykaren - dreadful.

The day before Britain’s Chief Rabbi (who was backed by leaders from all the main faiths) made a very damning statement regarding anti Semitism within the Labour Party and that it is not being dealt with

Was this meant to be ignored Hmm

Andrew Neil (ive never seen a politician have an easy time with him - and that is what we need from political interviews) asked a straight forward question about a very relevant issues he knows how his guests are likely to reposed and allowed Corbyn to dig his own hole

It was a disgraceful answer - no apology did he not think one is needed - obviously not

Shame on anyone that thinks Corbyn is fit to run the Labour Party he has absolutely now dragged the party down

And no before I get asked about Boris I think he is abhorrent too

This thankfully is the nail in Corbyn’s leadership coffin shame it couldn’t have come sooner we might then have a credible leader and chance to win the election now we are heading for a larger Tory majority

noblegiraffe · 28/11/2019 00:11

I meant that Johnson isn't turning up to 'this' interview.

Or his local hustings, or the climate debate, or the sky and channel 4 debates.

But the problem here is the BBC and not Johnson. I suspect because your guy was a shitshow and you’re blaming the messenger.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 28/11/2019 00:16

Does no one remember LK's interview of Corbyn over the 'would you press the nuclear button' question? It was aggressive and combative.

I'm actually finding it somewhat suprising that people have only started cottoning on to the fact that the BBC is no longer an impartial arbiter of the news. It hasn't even been making a pretence to be for years now and it's been biased against Corbyn for some time.

The state of the mainsteam media in the UK is woeful. The worst it's ever been. There's little dissenting coverage and that is dangerous. I think there was a study that showed that Corbyn received the most negative media coverage of any British candidate ever, yet in all his years prior to becoming leader barely any concerns were made about Anti-semitism or his character.

The hysteria regarding Corbyn has been largely engineered because he's not a middle of the road, labour politician with a red tie on like Blair was.

And too many journalists come from privileged backgrounds and want to ingratiate themselves with politicians. That's a significant part of the problem.

I'm frankly disgusted by it all and even more so by the religious political meddling.

DippyAvocado · 28/11/2019 00:16

I'm not even a Labour supporter and I completely agree with you. The BBC has shown since the referendum that it is under the government's thumb. Every single vox pop item asking for views about Brexit or the election is shot in a run-down shopping centre in the middle of the day. Could they not go to a busy railway station at 5.30? Or a university town? Or anywhere in Scotland?

Beveren · 28/11/2019 00:17

YANBU. See also Laura Kuenssberg, whose journalism standards have never been great but which have got worse recently.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 28/11/2019 00:17

There are loads of talented people in all the parties. We are not electing a president. I dont get why its so important that the 'leader' does every single debate.

BastardBBC · 28/11/2019 00:18

Was this meant to be ignored

Of course not. It was meant to be balanced by the statement from the Muslim Council regarding racism in the Tory party.

It was a disgraceful answer - no apology did he not think one is needed - obviously not

As I'm sure you're actually aware, he has apologised on a number of occasions. People just use the apology as an excuse to lay into him more.

And no before I get asked about Boris I think he is abhorrent too

No you don't or you would have some genuine outrage for the despicable things he has done and the unbearable fact that he might be leading the government in two weeks. It's just something to tack on the end of another attack on Corbyn so you can try to sound fair.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 28/11/2019 00:19

Boris Johnson did the same in the Brexit campaign

He comes across a little less bumbling, he doesn’t court a huge amount of attention (if you compare it to his time as the mayor) and doesn’t do a huge amount of interviews- not sure he likes campaigning - Corbyn does

He lets the others do there bit and will campaign from their fuck ups

He will do the interview, he will get as hard time like everyone does from Andrew Neil and he will mention as often as he can about Corbyn’s failings - the interview and being neutral dopey Corbyn has made it so much easier for him
