Are there a disproportionate amount of Scots on MN?

AIBU in thinking there is a disproportionately large amount of Scots on MN? Before I continue, there is absolutely nothing 'wrong' with this, just an observation.

I very often see on the "what are you doing today" threads posted on a Sunday that they are going to the supermarket at 9am... where England and Wales don't have extended Sunday trading hours. Or lots of "I'll be voting SNP at the general election".

Anyone else noticed this? I wonder what the percentage of active users are English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and others?

Christ I hope I don't catch it, it's doing the rounds here. Been sniffing First Defence like it's going out of fashion and a bit over zealous with the hand gel when I've been out and about. Get well soon y'all Flowers.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/12/2019 11:48

I'm an incomer from England, living near Paisley.

I apologise if I'm repeating things (I haven't read the whole thread) but maybe Scottish MNers are more likely to say where they from, because things like the law, education, shop opening times etc are different in Scotland, so it makes a difference to the answers a question will get.

I used to be the MN Local rep for my area, but didn't manage to get anything off the ground (I did organise a meet up in a coffee place at Braehead, but no-one came) - but that was a few years ago, so if there is anyone in this area who fancies meeting up - in the New Year, maybe - just say.

AnniePankettonne · 05/12/2019 12:21

Good luck @SDTG . I am not in your area .

Veronicat · 05/12/2019 13:56

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius. Im also an ex Englander and down around Ayr but don't drive otherwise I would be keen to do a meet. There was one in Glasgow once but I couldn't make it.

prettybird · 05/12/2019 14:16

I've met SDTG via a MN Meet-up and she's now a good friend. Thanks She's lovely in RL - as are all the other MNers I've met in RL Smile Not a hairy trucker amongst them Wink

I also used to a MN Local Ambassador (still have the card Grin) and organised a few meet-ups in the past in Glasgow.

SDTG and I will coordinate to do one in the New Year.

Bloodybridget · 05/12/2019 14:17

The more Scots the better IMO.

wafflyversatile · 05/12/2019 14:41

I lived in Shawlands for about 8 months. Tassie Street. And I was living in the hotel there for about a month. I can't remember what it was called. That was in the late 80s.

I went to the Harris in Dundee.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/12/2019 15:13

@prettybird is lovely too!

@Veronicat - if we have a meet up in the New Year, maybe we could have it somewhere easy to get to on public transport - we have met at the cafe in John Lewis before now - would that work for you?

BluebellsareBlue · 05/12/2019 18:23

Well Glasgow was a wash out, literally! Poor dad took unwell so I managed some crap food from the Xmas market at st Enoch, primark and the men's bit of Debenhams!! Could have done all that in dundee! Although I did get some frozen seafood from the Chinese supermarket

dementedpixie · 05/12/2019 18:31

It's been wet, windy and miserable today especially when the kids came out of school - that's when the heavens really opened

nononever · 05/12/2019 18:37

We're heading over Glasgow way tomorrow then Edinburgh on Sunday and the forecast is utterly horrendous 😩

AnniePankettonne · 05/12/2019 18:42

The weather today has been horrendous. In the time it took DH to drive up the train station car park, I was absolutely soaked. I almost wish it would snow instead . . .

ItsLikeSputnik · 05/12/2019 21:14

jamdhanihash · 05/12/2019 21:29

I work in Glasgow and Edinburgh, live in between, would love a meet up. My antenatal group started on here. Fabulous bunch, we are still together now.
