Menopause comment

I am early 40s and have my period every 28 days like clockwork. Today my DP asked if I thought I may be menopausal, implied that I pretend my period is still 28 days and maybe I should see a doctor! He said this to a woman on her period. AIBU for feeling homicidal? (He was serious). I told him that he had upset me but he doesn't get it.

Actually, I got that wrong, it was 'past their sell by date'.

ugh gross

charm8ed · 26/11/2019 15:20

When I was 48.5 I got to 11 months and then they restarted. It was so annoying.

BillieEilish · 26/11/2019 15:24

charmed, I was 7 months in and had one period. One very light period. Doctor said 'you have to start all over again'.

Bluerussian · 26/11/2019 15:27

Scary, it's a year if you're over fifty, two years if under fifty.

charm8ed · 26/11/2019 15:27

Yes that was the same as me. I’m had 11 months of no periods and for 7 of those really bad night hot flushes. Then the hot flushes suddenly stopped, periods returned and so did awful irritability, agitation, low mood once a month. So I went to the doctor and was prescribed Oestrogel which has been good for me. Not an instant magic cure but it definitely helps.

fallfallfall · 26/11/2019 15:31

Menopause and no periods is great. No bloating, breast swelling, cravings, leg pain, dealing with pads, laundry ahhhhhhh believe me it’s very nice indeed.
Your dh sounds medically naive, I don’t get what he’s suggesting. Are you moody and he means premenstrual or wanting sex?

AloneLonelyLoner · 26/11/2019 15:32

Oh gawd. Two years??

As for thinking I was avoiding sex...maybe? Not sure. I've never avoided sex before (I enjoy sex).

The conversation came up because I said I was on my period and he said but you don't have spots and you always get spots (ergo I must be lying!). Hmm

He sounds ....................charming

BillieEilish · 26/11/2019 15:41

Well, (I speak for myself here) my worst symtoms of proper menopause are

Anxiety
NO libido at all...

let him know that happy news Grin

Londonmummy66 · 26/11/2019 15:44

I hate to disappoint you ladies but (mid fifties) I had been period free for 18 months and have now just had 3 in a row - like clockwork. Really annoying but at least the hot flushes have disappeared.

fallfallfall · 26/11/2019 15:45

Backhanded compliment? You have no spots, congratulations.
May you remain spot free.
But really you need to teach him what menopause is...no periods after a long wait.

charm8ed · 26/11/2019 15:47

Londonmummy66 no, no, no!!!

BillieEilish · 26/11/2019 15:49

Londonmummy FGS, that is amazing!

I'd be pleased (All that oestrogen for my skin!) VAIN!

It's why I also take oestrogel! Keeps you young. (IMHO)

Bluntness100 · 26/11/2019 15:49

What an odd little man. Do you not cringe for him? I would. Imagine accusing someone of lying about their periods. Just odd and creepy.

BillieEilish · 26/11/2019 15:51

True Bluntness

picklemepopcorn · 26/11/2019 15:53

@Londonmummy66 no!!!

That's not what I wanted to hear. I'm at the ten month mark and starting to count my chickens.

Tinkobell · 26/11/2019 15:56

Ask him if his dick has started shrivelling up yet? 😂 Love it!

theoriginalmadambee · 26/11/2019 16:00

Fwiw for me being premenopasal or menopausal is a fine line not differing much. No periods, but even worse 'lack of hormones' symptoms 😢. I still get sore beasts at times, moody, anxiety (worse), sadness, no sleep, hot flushes you name it. Hey ho!

Tinkobell · 26/11/2019 16:01

Maybe he's experiencing some 'sympathy' symptoms OP......exhaustion, thinning hair, loss of libido, mood swings? 😂

RuthW · 26/11/2019 16:03

He could have a long wait. I'm 51 and only just started having irregular periods.

BillieEilish · 26/11/2019 16:11

Ruth that is average apparently, you'll be through it by 53. You need one year without periods, that's all.

I have never met an average person. ALL my friends were early 40's... weird!

Either way, OP you are NOT in the menopause, but thanks for making me laugh and moan about the menopause and the attitude men have towards it!

I repeat, you ARE NOT IN MENOPAUSE Grin

AloneLonelyLoner · 26/11/2019 16:40

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Sadly just in Menstruation.

🩸

Sucks to be me.

I'm going to mention the thinning hair etc. I think if anyone is going through menopause it's him and he needs some patches.

Londonmummy66 · 26/11/2019 17:35

Sorry guys but yes - thanks for the sympathy - my teenagers thought it was hilarious when I had to come scrounging their sanpro as I no longer had any of my own..........

scaryteacher · 27/11/2019 10:12

Billie I'm 54 in about six weeks. I haven't had a period since July, the doc did some tests when I last had a blood test and said I was in the menopause. I moved back to the UK recently, and was tackling the pile of bathroom boxes last night, and found all my sanpro. Thought I might leave it in the box as I don't need it now.

Guess what, this morning? Aargh.

MollyHuaCha · 27/11/2019 10:39

Your DH sounds like a bit of a fool. As PP have said, he probably doesn't know what menopausal actually means.

It's just a word he's heard and thinks it applies to all women in their 40s and 50s.

Sadly, many men do find the thought of menopausal women amusing or distasteful.

Maybe find an informative website and direct him towards some useful reading.
