To think the reduced section is the best place in the supermarket?

I know this is sad but I so love my bargains. My local supermarket has suddenly started reducing things to 25% of original selling price on the day they're due to go out of date.

Haven't bought full price meat or fish in months. Several pizza express pizzas in freezer. Tonight's chicken quesadilla and salad meal for 5 costing about £4.

Anyone else as sad as me?

Oh and we're not particularly on a tight budget. But I'd rather the money in my pocket than in the supermarket till.

I hear ya! Yellow stickers and a freezer are the way to go.Smile

inthethickofit19 · 22/11/2019 13:02

Which supermarket? Grin

senua · 22/11/2019 13:02

Blimey. I've just looked closer at that yellow sticker.ShockShock Good find!

PineappleDanish · 22/11/2019 13:02

Absolute best bargain recently was in Waitrose, some gorgeous salmon for next to nothing. Have the kids well trained too, they know exactly where the reductions are in each supermarket.

This is an old pic but I've just searched for it because I'm so proud of my finds. There were three of them and I got them all.

I love a supermarket reduced section, it's the one thing I miss when shopping online

ClashCityRocker · 22/11/2019 13:06

I must go at the wrong time! They never have more than like 20p off when I go.

PineappleDanish · 22/11/2019 13:06

In my experience... Asda used to take about 30% off in the morning, then everything down to 20p at 8pm. Total bun fight and not worth it. Waitrose good in the evening - Dd does guides at 7.30 so pop in in my way hiome see what's on offer and grab a coffee. Tesco pretty hopeless round here but DH was in on New Year's Eve last year and got some very cheap stuff.

That chicken is an absolute bargain, OP! Good find.

vickibee · 22/11/2019 13:09

our local co-op has the best reductions, if you go after 6pm fresh perishable stuff are reduced 75 %. Got a whole chicken for £1.50 and a large tub of collective yogurt for 40p. I love a bargain too

virginpinkmartini · 22/11/2019 13:11

Maybe I'm going at the wrong times, but the reductions in my nearby supermarkets are shit. I can't ever seem to come across anything decent, and when there are deals to be had, people do that whole trolley block vulture thing and I can't be arsed with it. Would rather just go to Lidl and save on my overall shop than cast my dignity aside for the sake of 10p sausages.

gamerchick · 22/11/2019 13:13

Can't get bloody near me. Just don't have the elbows for it Grin Tesco's reduced section is rubbish, they barely take any off.

virginpinkmartini · 22/11/2019 13:14

For example, the Morrisons near me had PILES of dairy free chocolate that had like 20p off each, and they were dear anyway. That was like two weeks ago and they're still there with no further reduction.

GinDaddy · 22/11/2019 13:14

The "trolley block vulture" thing is just ghastly. God help those people.

Crawley65 · 22/11/2019 13:14

My most recent bargains were a ready made Jamie Bingham veg lasagne, £7.50 reduced to £1.88. Also got Higgidy feta and pepper quiche, down from £4 to £1.

My eyes are always on the look out for a lovely yellow sticker!

Autumntoowet · 22/11/2019 13:15

I prefer when the yellow stickers are distributed amongst the normal aisles
It makes it more exciting and I have trained eyes now.

Walk walk, look around, milk, cheese, YELLOW STICKER 👀

geordiejock · 22/11/2019 13:17

Best place to have a barny!

easyandy101 · 22/11/2019 13:21

Obviously it's cheaper but you're also keeping food out the bin, so double win

DontCallMeShitley · 22/11/2019 13:21

Not in Tesco though, they only reduce by about 2p and then it is something really manky that is only fit for the bin...

PineappleDanish · 22/11/2019 13:23

Asda wasn't always so generous in their reductions. Used to be 25% off original price, not 25% of original.

But today there was loads - lots of chicken, turkey stir fry bits, loads of fruit (punnet of grapes for 25p) and lots of ready meals, pizzas, sausage rolls.

I bloody love a yellow sticker, my freezer is full of them! First place I head in the supermarket but some people are so territorial they won't let you near it until they've gone through the lot

PineappleDanish · 22/11/2019 13:29

Some people are also weird about buying stuff reduced to clear, they think it's off, or something wrong with it.

OP posts:
strawbmilk · 22/11/2019 13:38

M&S can be good at times. Sometimes the discounts are huge and others very little taken off. My best find was a Colin the caterpillar cake for 70p! I didn't buy it as I didn't want to eat the whole cake 😂
But I have found pies etc for less than a £1 and fill the freezer!

PineappleDanish · 22/11/2019 15:20

Oh reduced to clear cake is the best. A few weeks ago DS spotted a large waitrose birthday chocolate cake reduced to £1.99 from £18. It wasn't anyone's birthday but what the hell - cake is cake, right?
