Ladies, help me. I'm mid 40s and the bastard chins hairs keep on coming. I keep plucking them out, but am I going to have a beard by the time I'm 50? Nasty course black thick hairs. Do I need to go and see my GP? ARGH!?!?!

I carry tweezers in my handbag so I can dash to the well-lit mirrors in the Ladies' when I feel one emerging. The little mirror in the sunblind in the car is also useful but the Children get embarrassed if I am doing them and someone sees me ...

VanyaHargreeves · 18/11/2019 23:56

Tweezers every 2-3 days

Full beard now

Had Laser treatments done, didn't last and the problem with Lumea is that you have to let it grow in between, and I just can't, I let it grow to get it waxed and was then unwell beforehand and hospitalised, and had to wait before fixing it and not even two full boxes of Veet strips got rid of it all Sad

Whatsnewpussyhat · 19/11/2019 00:01

I bloody love my lumea. It is awesome.
BUT when I first did my chin and tash hairs they went away and all was good until they grew back white which is no fucking use to my magic laser machine. So now back to the tweezers.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 19/11/2019 00:07

No-one seems to have mentioned those spring things - search amazon for 'spring epilator' & it's a big spring with rubbery end caps & costs about a quid. There are youtube videos showing you how to use them.

I've tried electroysis, bleaching & finally plucking with tweezers. But this spring thing is the best so far because you don't have to see what you're doing, so you can use it while watching TV.

VenusTiger · 19/11/2019 00:15

@Iwantacookie 😂😂🤣

I have a thick white one on my jaw, whenever I feel the stub creeping back out, I’m at it with the tweezers again, and I do tell the bastard thing off, makes me feel better.

I’m blonde but I have black hairs (oddly) on my nipples Blush random ones - since having my son.

73kittycat73 · 19/11/2019 00:15

I get the chin and neck hairs. I can't wax, tried it once and my face erupted (Same with leg hair.) I have a lazy eye, so no 20/20 vision (Bad depth perception.) and I spend ages at the mirror trying to co-ordinate tweezers with hair!

VenusTiger · 19/11/2019 00:20

@73kittycat73 have you tried a magnified mirror?

prawnsword · 19/11/2019 00:24

Will match your black coarse chin hairs & raise you black coarse neck / nipple hairs too

Am never far from a set of tweezers

Would definitely explore laser one day, especially for the neck hairs.

It does feel satisfying plucking the little bastards out but

Chickydoo · 19/11/2019 00:26

Sorry to sound ignorant, but why doesn't the Lumea work on white chin hairs? Was thinking of buying, but after seeing the above comments might save my money

UpfieldHatesWomen · 19/11/2019 00:26

I use these things. I'm blonde so lasers won't work, and have sensitive skin so Nair rips my skin off. These are faster than tweezers and grab shorter hairs more easily. I've seen them in Primark, or get em online. I'm glad to know I'm not alone, have had to tweeze for years.

TheNestedIf · 19/11/2019 00:27

Anyone tried electrolysis?

I have but they were able to treat so few per session that I had had to switch to laser which did very little. I even got a home IPL so I could carry on with treatment and that hasn't been much help either.

Vaniqua was another waste of time and money.

I'm thinking of investing in a strimmer.

VinandVigour · 19/11/2019 00:27

I have threatened my DCs with regular haunting if they don’t bring tweezers to whatever nursing home I am in, in years to come, in order to keep me moustache and beard free.

I only have a couple of thick black hairs on my chin, but I could easily take part in Movember. Yet the hair on my head seems to be thinning!

TheNestedIf · 19/11/2019 00:29

Lumea doesn't work on white hairs because white hairs don't absorb the energy required to burst the hair root the way dark hairs do. It's the same way that dark colours absorb heat whilst paler colours reflect.

RowenaMud · 19/11/2019 00:33

I went through a phase of getting these in my 30s. I think it was related to hormones and I'm struggling to remember whether I was taking the pill at the time.

I didn't have any 'treatments' other than a tweezers (and sometimes even a sissors!) and don't get them anymore. I still get the chin hairs though and the odd tough hair above my upper lip.

73kittycat73 · 19/11/2019 00:35

@VenusTiger Thank you for the suggestion. I recently bought one from Superdrug, never thought to use it on chin hair, doh! Grin Will give it a go soon (Was going to start with eyebrows, ouch! ).

Banana1984 · 19/11/2019 00:37

I started getting them when I got my face threaded in my early thirties. I never asked to get my chin threaded she did and then they started sprouting up. Only way to truly rid of them is lasers. Never shave or thread them. Pluck or wax

TitusOatesLivesNextDoor · 19/11/2019 00:42

I think plucking mine made them worse. I wish I hadn't started.

WagtailRobin · 19/11/2019 00:57

I use a "No No" on my mum's chin hairs, she hates me doing it but it does the job. I did once attempt to pluck the hairs out and she became very annoyed, so the "No No" was the way to go.

borderterrierist · 19/11/2019 00:58

I've had these since I was 16!! Blush

TheNestedIf · 19/11/2019 01:12

"No No" is one of the few things I haven't tried. I'd be interested in any more commentary.

Is it any good on the ones that tend to ingrow?

VenusTiger · 19/11/2019 01:14

@73kittycat73 you’re welcome Smile just be careful you don’t shit your pants when you see those hairs magnified eh Grin

user1471519931 · 19/11/2019 01:53

@PinkiOcelot I go to a beautician who does it...has made such a difference and really clears the pores as well

stopgap · 19/11/2019 01:56

I used to get dark hairs on my lip, but now nothing, nothing on my chin, but a solid cluster of about 20 black hairs on my neck. I’ve done a few sessions of laser, a few sessions of electrolysis, but really feel I’m fighting a losing battle as I have PCOS and adrenal gland issues.

Hospitalknickers · 19/11/2019 02:12

@UpfieldHatesWomen What is this please?

BringMeAGinandTonic · 19/11/2019 02:18

I quite enjoy plucking mine. Black ones, white ones that take a lot of tugging. The worst are the stealth ones that appear like magic - 2 feet long - that you only notice when you've out of the house for hours. Bastards.

LOL. This is me!
