AIBU to be embarrassed by my bra size?

babooshcar · 17/11/2019 15:16

For the past few years I've been a 32 f. Unfortunately, my breasts have always been disproportionate to the rest of my body which makes shopping for clothes tricky (I'm also convinced big boobs has given me slight lordosis).

However, I've recently gained some weight (.5 stone) and I was shocked to discover I am now a 32 H! I had to give my measurements to a friend (for a bridesmaids dress) and I was so embarrassed. Not really sure why.

AIBU?

How is it embarrassing? It really shouldn't be embarrassing. Get fitted with the right size & you'll look fabulous.

MIdgebabe · 17/11/2019 16:06

I also find it embarrassing. I really hate my body. It's hard to get clothes that fit, and I hate be8ng looked at, and I really hate men who only talk to the boobs. And it's uncomfortable and impractical

Ritascornershop · 17/11/2019 16:08

I used to be around that size and I hated it. It was really difficult to find clothes that fit, impossible to wear dresses that didn’t make me look pregnant. I got a reduction after my first baby then got unexpectedly pregnant with my second. Boobs went up a bit, I’m now a 34E. Difficult, but not impossible to find dresses, and with button-up shirts if it comes close to fitting my waist then it may strain at the buttons across my chest.

Flat-chested coworkers feel they are performing a Helpful Deed by squinting at my chest and saying “I think it’s a bit tight there”. Yes, I know, thanks. My choice is being tight across the chest or being 6 sizes too big at the waist. I’d rather not look 6sizes bigger than I am around the tummy of that’s okay.

thenightsky · 17/11/2019 16:08

10lb gain would easily increase me by two cup sizes too OP, so I know how you feel. Trouble is, when I lose the weight the buggers don't seem to go back down! I've just lost 17lb and gone down from 34 to 32 but the cups still need to be E. Why oh why?

Oh, and if I don't wear a bra they look awful. If I stand in front of the mirror and lift them up with the palms of my hands, they look like too puffy pancakes on plates Sad

I've given up being embarrassed by them.

bridgetreilly · 17/11/2019 16:12

She's your friend, she knows what you look like. She won't be surprised by your bra size unless you have a clever way of normally, I don't know, tucking them behind your ears or something?

koshkat · 17/11/2019 16:13

34G here and happy! As long as you shop in decent shops - Bravissimo is fab - then you will be comfortable and supported.

mistydayswampwitch · 17/11/2019 16:14

Same here OP. I'm a 30HH, size 12 and 5 foot 2. I probably look ridiculous. The worst part is colleagues and patients, well pretty much everyone, seem to think it's ok to comment on them. They also come with crippling back and neck pain. Yay!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/11/2019 16:17

They look awful without a bra.

I'll bet your DP doesn't think so.

Personally I am jealous that you can put on 10lbs and it all goes on your tits. When I was young I was a 30AA - I had NOTHING! I didn't get any boobs at all until I had a baby and then they were enormous (and rock hard and dribbling a lot of the time).

I'm now a 36B, so still comparatively flat-chested.

MIdgebabe · 17/11/2019 16:18

No bravissimo does not make me feel comfortable. It makes me feel like a freak and at the end of the day I still have huge red burn marks under the boobs.

koshkat · 17/11/2019 16:19

I am sorry - my comment was not meant to be flippant at all. I hated bra shopping and having large boobs until Bravissimo came along and I was so relieved.

I am confused as to why a bra shop makes you feel like a 'freak' though? It's just a shop!

tentative3 · 17/11/2019 16:21

I often don't get on with Bravissimo bras (and the other brands they sell) but can recommend the Millie bra @MIdgebabe. I still have some marks when it comes off but nothing like the big gouges I get with other bras and I find them pretty much instantly comfortable, also unlike the other bras I have.

Snowman123 · 17/11/2019 16:22

Weight definetly goes on your boobs first. The good news is it also comes off your boobs first too. What's your height/ weight?

EnglishRose13 · 17/11/2019 16:24

5'3, size 10. Size 32H.

I'm not embarrassed, but I absolutely hate them. A reduction is on my lottery win wish list.

LividLaughLove · 17/11/2019 16:24

34K BEFORE I got pregnant 🙋‍♀️

No idea how mahoosive they are now; I'm wearing Molke soft bras and absolutely revelling in not being in bra-related pain at the end of every day. No more of the "burn marks" a PP mentioned.

I just wish v-necks would come back in fashion so I could shop in actual shops again.

MIdgebabe · 17/11/2019 16:24

It's probably just me. Although it isn't helped by the fact that is specialist shop, I need to make a 2 hr ( 4 hr return) trip to get to a shop that sells bras my size. Makes me feel abnormal. And then I I dislike the fact that they feel like major feats of engineering, with the wires construction.

I have recently got molke bras and they are much better. And I much prefer the shape which is less up and out. But totally get the OP.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 17/11/2019 16:24

Me too, Babe
I'm a 32 E and i bloody hate mine.

Straycatstrut · 17/11/2019 16:26

I'm smaller than the 'small'. All my bras are young teenage girl sizes. 32/34AA. Used to let it bother me a lot - clothes never fit right, dresses gape open at the chest etc. But I like that I can not wear a bra all summer. Usually just wear those nipple sticker things ha.

When my milk came in (whilst in hospital) I literally looked like I'd walked straight out of plastic surgery and had gone for the 'porn star' look!

Villageidiots · 17/11/2019 16:27

32GG here. As I approach the menopause they seem to be getting bigger too. I was bizarrely flat chested until I was 16.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 17/11/2019 16:27

Has anyone tried a minimiser bra, cos I've being umming and ahhing about buying one?

Are they worth the money?

koshkat · 17/11/2019 16:28

Who says what's perfect? That image (probably created by a bloke) is another stick for women to beath themselves with and is utter rubbish.

stucknoue · 17/11/2019 16:28

I'm not much smaller, hate them. The only shop that sells clothes that fit is bravissimo. I just wish other stores would sell clothes to fit narrow shoulders and ample boobs

ConFusion360 · 17/11/2019 16:29

I went from size 6 to 8 with an a/b cup to suddenly being a 28f but have no idea why. I look bizarre and absolutely hate it clearly everyone thinks they are fake.

I'm roughly the same size. Size 6 28FF/G depending on the brand. It really isn't that big and I love my proportions. Nobody has ever asked or suggested that they are fake.

koshkat · 17/11/2019 16:30

Also Bravissimo do a great mail order service.

babooshcar · 17/11/2019 16:31

I carry the majority of my weight on my boobs/arse/thighs.

I'm normally a 10/12 but on the wrong side of that now - I've been eating like a maniac due to stress.

Tistheseason17 · 17/11/2019 16:32

OP - you need to love your boobs!
I've always had huge boobs from 32G to 34J!

As soon as I accepted them and realised I could get what I wanted from men with a fitted top my confidence blossomed! Grin

Caveat - decent men who are not influenced by boobies are not affected which is also fine by me! Take back the power!
