AIBU?
To think you don't need full make up to get off a plane?
fireonfire · 16/11/2019 23:04
Flew overnight and there was a massive queue for the loos onboard once they turned the cabin lights on and served breakfast. People waiting to go to the loo or have a wash/brush teeth. One woman spent no less than 25 minutes in there putting on a full face of make up, knowing full well there were half a dozen people behind waiting to go in. Surely all you want after a 14 hour flight is to freshen up since you'll be having a shower asap anyway and washing it off? Aibu to think it was selfish?
Wintersleep · 16/11/2019 23:10
Yes it was selfish and whilst she may have a reason for wanting a full face eg. Meeting a long distance boyfriend its no excuse and her wanting to wear makeup doesn't trump others needs to relieve themsleves, what of people with incontinence or other medical needs? I've not flown in about a decade so not sure how many loos planes have in cases of these sorts of things, what would they do if they couldn't get to the toilet because someone was sticking lashes on
Witchofzog · 16/11/2019 23:13
Meh. Long haul flights have lots of toilets so it is unlikely you would have been waiting for the whole duration. And not everyone's situation is the same as yours. She might have been meeting a long distance partner etc so might want to look her best. She might feel more confident with make up. Or she might feel judged doing her make up in her seat (proven by lots of threads on here about people being heavily judged for making up on trains etc) . Either way live and let live.

Well I don't actually own any make up so I would argue that you don't need it at all, but some people do seem to find it very important.
I agree that it is selfish to take up the toilet on a plane for 25 minutes unless it is unavoidable but maybe she wasn't putting on make up for all that time. Could she have had an upset stomach or something? She probably wouldn't announce it to the world if she had just had the runs for 20 mins and then spent 5 mins cleaning herself up and putting some make up on would she? If she was just putting make up on for 25 mins and was aware people were waiting then yes, I think that it is selfish but you are never going to know that for sure.

As an aside, I am always amazed by the amount of people who have an issue with women applying their make up on public transport - like how does that affect you?
I look forward to wetwiping my face , then putting on my make up as it's something to do.
Witchofzog · 16/11/2019 23:41
Every long haul flight I have been in have toilets grouped in two's or fours. You should have gone to another one rather than wait 25 mins. Another poster has a good point. You don't know what percentage of time was spent on make up and what percentage was spent on the actual toilet. Or even doing something else. One of my work friends had some bad news before boarding a flight a few years ago. She managed to hold it together until the end of the flight and ended up sobbing in the toilets at the end. I don't know if she did her make up afterwards or not but I guess you just don't know what people are doing, whether it is just make up or something else

When me and DH were long distant lovers, surely I would leave the plane with full makeup on!
But I didn’t do it in the toilet and let others wait, would just go in there to wash pits, put on fresh deodorant, perfume and a new tshirt. Make up was done when I was back in my seat to not be a nuisance to others. And because I am clumsy and germaphobic and therefor was afraid to drop any of my makeup on the filthy plane toilet floor 🤢
Ponoka7 · 17/11/2019 11:14
@Jojo19834, is it anymore selfish than thinking someone shouldn't take as long as they want to use the toilet, just because you can't be bothered to walk to the other toilet, on a plane, when you've been sat for so long?
That's the hight of laziness.
It's assumed that women take ages putting on makeup. But I can do my whole face in five minutes. You get your routine off to speed.
Going out makeup including false lashes takes a max of 15 minutes. That's with exaggerated glitter eyes etc.
It's more likely she struggles to poo on a plane and took her makeup with her.
Lozz22 · 17/11/2019 11:23
I wear makeup for a night out which given I hate them is probably once maybe twice a year. I most certainly don't feel the need to slap on a full face of it prior to landing somewhere on a Plane. I just rock off with my hair looking like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards, super dry skin, chapped lips and the darkest circles around my eyes!!
