To ask about Jeremy Corbyn and anti semitism

So having decided to vote labour I had a conversation with a Jewish work colleague who said she couldn't vote for him, hated him even. It took me a few seconds and then i realised why. I said that I had stuck my fingers in my ears and my head in the sand somewhat about this, hoping it was just the media etc.

We didn't get into it as I could see she was uncomfortable.

So can someone tell me if and why he is an anti-semite? It doesn't sit well with me to vote for someone like that but I desperately want the Tories gone and my politics is definitely to the left.

I'm honestly not being goady and I know I could google but i wouldn't know where to start to get an unbiased view

interesting how people can't vote for "anti Semite" Corbyn but aren't so fussed about misogynistic, Islam mocking, racist Tories.

A plague on both their houses.

noblegiraffe · 16/11/2019 21:00

Thread of examples of over 125 elected Labour officials being antisemitic.

I’ve posted this before on other threads because people will keep banging on about how it’s not antisemitism, it’s just support for Palestine.

This thread is upsetting, and warning: it starts with offensive images and holocaust denial.

Oh, I think people are very fussed. But this thread is about Labour and antisemitism: not about the Tories, misogyny and Islam.

zsazsajuju · 16/11/2019 21:09

He retweeted that mural which was grossly anti-Semitic and said he didn’t think it should be erased. There is a seam of anti-semitism in the hard left which seems to be based on the idea that Jews are all rich, control the media, etc (I think Ken Livingston said something to this effect). You can see it with the obsession with “Palestine” - you don’t see anything like the same interest in other countries or political situations.

As for JC, he also seems to have laid a wreath at a memorial for terrorists who murdered Jewish athletes at the Munich Olympics. Also the anti semitism in the party is not taken seriously or dealt with.

I’m Jewish and I don’t know any other Jewish people who would now vote labour.

rattusrattus20 · 16/11/2019 21:12

There's not one single racist Corbyn quote from all of his 40-odd years in politics, not one. The accusations against him more or less turn on the company he's kept.

Contrast this with Mr 'piccaninnies'/'watermelon smiles'/'bumboys'/'letterbox'.

zsazsajuju · 16/11/2019 21:29

@rattusrattus - numerous examples of JCs anti semitism are above

AnnieTotach · 16/11/2019 21:34

I saw a comment by a (Jewish) friend of mine on fb, very liberal, very critical of Israeli policies and supportive of Palestinian rights.
Amongst other things she said that if Corbyn's elected, the jews will probably be blamed for Brexit in 10 years time.
The historical parallels are chilling.

lljkk · 16/11/2019 21:36

Corbyn didn't lay a wreath to honour the Munich terrorists.
Whether you think he was ok to watch other people lay a wreath for them is another discussion.

Corbyn would say that all the Munich deaths were regrettable, including the deaths of those who started the violence.

He does seem very naive about the company he keeps.

DreamingofSunshine · 16/11/2019 22:00

I'm Jewish, and a supporter of Jews for Peace in Palestine. Being Jewish isn't the same as being pro-Israel.

JC might not hate Jews himself, but he does very little to deal with those who do in the Labour Party, which is part of his job.

I wouldn't vote Tory either due to the racist comments by Boris.

MaxNormal · 16/11/2019 22:04

So someone is saying that this is an attempt to increase the Muslim vote, ergo Muslims are anti-Semitic?
Is this an okay thing to say??

marvellousnightforamooncup · 16/11/2019 22:14

Gnasherjew is absolutely vile to other Jewish people on Twitter who support Labour by the way. For Balance, Michael Rosen's account is interesting to follow.

At the end of the day you have to vote for the best policies for the country. None of the parties are perfect, racism is everywhere and must be tackled but to say it's only a left wing problem is bollocks.

VeryGenuinequestions · 16/11/2019 22:21

That's right, he isn't it's just right wing media Confused and 3 Jewish new papers too and many rabbis calling out to the UK not to vote these people in, because they feel unsafe!

But the Jewish community is lying and don't know what they are talking about...

HeresMe · 16/11/2019 22:22

So someone is saying that this is an attempt to increase the Muslim vote, ergo Muslims are anti-Semitic?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism_in_Islam

Take note of the UK one that is a report by a Muslim writer not some one who is Jewish.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/11/2019 22:24

From all the groups that Corbyn has been involved with or reached out to

How many are Jewish Israelis working hard towards peace

Hmm

He is an agitator always has been and anyone that is anti west gets his support

slipperywhensparticus · 16/11/2019 22:25

He isnt openly but he hasnt exactly stamped it out in the party has he

Politically adrift and only a few weeks to go looks like i will be examining my local mps as opposed to party as a whole

noblegiraffe · 16/11/2019 22:31

Gnasherjew is absolutely vile to other Jewish people on Twitter

How does that change the pictures and information that he’s posted?

MaxNormal · 16/11/2019 22:35

HeresMe you've given me a wiki link to justify a pretty horrible slur, than anti-Semitic policies will appeal to Muslim voters, on a thread rightfully condemning anti-Semitism.
Islamophibia isn't actually okay either, you know.

TheoriginalLEM · 16/11/2019 22:50

It's interesting how people can't vote for "anti Semite" Corbyn but aren't so fussed about misogynistic, Islam mocking, racist Tories*

Did you read my OP? Where did I, or anyone else on the thread for that matter say that we would vote Tory?

I cannot understand a society where the main political parties are so racist.

Sadly, this will likely be the reason the conservatives stay in power, i can imagine that there are many folk like myself who won't vote labour because of this issue, it's too big to ignore.

I'm actually quote scared reading some of the comments on here - especially those wilfully misrepresenting events, so as to cast Corbyn as anti-Semitic. It seems critical thinking is on the wane.

For those who really are interested:

antisemitism.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Antisemitism-Barometer-2017.pdf

and

www.jewishvoiceforlabour.org.uk/article/check-evidence/

Which shows that Labour has actually lower instances of reported anti-Semitic comments, as a percentage, than wider British society.

It also shows that when surveyed, the percentage of Conservative party membership who agreed with anti-Semitic statements were much higher than the Labour party membership.

Regarding some of the statements above, the people who keep deliberately misrepresenting Corbyn's "no sense of irony" comment by stating he said it to Jews. These comments were made to two known Zionists who were attending, and recording, speeches at a Palestinian event. The subsequent video of this was edited to remove this context.

Interesting article here showing 50 times Cornyn has stood with Jewish people:

skwawkbox.org/2019/07/09/fifty-times-jeremy-corbyn-stood-with-jewish-people/

The issue with these kind of slurs is that the details get lost to the headlines, so the stain remains even when the events are proven not to be anti-Semitic. It really does seem to be a large stick to beat Corbyn, and Labour, with. Mostly conflating anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism.

My advice would be to not believe the posts on here, but do your own research. I've only seen a few impartial post's in this thread.

TheoriginalLEM · 16/11/2019 22:55

Yes Boris Johnson is a vile racist. I think that goes without saying!

OP posts:
EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/11/2019 23:00

Have done my own research thanks from when Corbyn stepped into the leadership contest

Had vaguely heard of him (being a party member) more about his righthand man McDonnell

What I read then was more than enough to ever consider voting for him to be PM

And seen all that info before. Maybe you need to sharpen up on your own critical thinking skills

MaxNormal · 16/11/2019 23:01

SomeUsername and then there's the completely casual Islamophobia on here, that weirdly bo-one seems to be in the least bit bothered about. That's disturbing.

MyOtherProfile · 16/11/2019 23:04

Did you read my OP? Where did I, or anyone else on the thread for that matter say that we would vote Tory?
I didn't say you would. However I've noticed several threads crop up asking similar about Corbyn but not the same number asking similar about Johnson.

MyOtherProfile · 16/11/2019 23:05

Excellent post SomeUsername

MyOtherProfile · 16/11/2019 23:08

Oh, I think people are very fussed. But this thread is about Labour and antisemitism: not about the Tories, misogyny and Islam.
I may just not be noticing but I hear so much more about the former than I do about the latter so it does appear people really aren't so bothered about the latter.
