To think this is not good news

My mum has had pains in her side for some time. She has been for xray,MRI and liver scan. The MRI was on her spine.
The MRI results went to her doctor this morning,he rang her and said she has to go in tomorrow and quote " take someone for moral.support" with her.
Am I right to fear the worst?

What a horrible way to tell people - it's shameful to leave people in the dark like that but knowing there are awful news at the end.
