Do you think people reveal their true selves when drunk?

I've got a mate who is confidant, sensible and well balanced when sober and a self-loathing, paranoid mess when they've had a skinfull. DP thinks this is her real self and she needs help and l'm more inclined to think people say any old stuff when they are plastered.

If you try to raise any of the things she says after the event she laughs it off ...

It depends. I know someone who is great to be around when they’re drunk - witty, sociable, considerate and polite, but who is completely obnoxious when sober!

I think to a certain extent it does.
It looses up social boundaries/ restrictions for a bit.

Whenever I get drunk, I make inappropriate jokes and am very cheerful.

My narcissist DM becomes very mean and starts picking fights by verbally attacking others.
If you tell her you feel uncomfortable about her mean comments, she’ll say: that’s your problem.

My friend’s husband has a very unpleasant personality IMO, sneaky and arrogant.
He becomes agressive when he’s drunk and he has even tried to push her off the stairs.
She blames an accident he had years ago and caused brain damage for his behavior but I am quite sure its his personality.
