To think if a carpet is pissed on it should be replaced?

Or at least professionally cleaned?

I'm taking an adult human here. Not a puppy or something.

It's been 'cleaned' by the pisser but I can still smell it.

It's an old carpet anyway but AIBU to want SOME money towards it being replaced or the pisser to pay for it to be professionally cleaned?

UANBU!!
I'd definitely expect it to be professionally cleaned and paid for by the pissed.

Kirigiri · 09/11/2019 15:33

Dr Beckmann carpet cleaner. I have a diabetic elderly dog who doesn’t always make it and this cleaner has been a godsend

Durgasarrow · 09/11/2019 15:34

What the hell. What kind of adult acts this way.

charactersonclothesaretrashy · 09/11/2019 15:34

You could go to small
Claims court?

Windygate · 09/11/2019 15:36

Surely such a large amount of urine on floorboards is going to cause a massive issue. The floorboards are likely to stink never mind the carpet and underlay.

You might be best claiming off your contents insurance if you have it, the guilty party can pay the excess.

I speak from experience of elderly relative having a genuine accident. Carpet had to be replaced.

bluebeck · 09/11/2019 15:39

Agree with PP - that amount will need floorboards replacing. Drunk Pisser should pay.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 09/11/2019 15:39

What is the additional cost of replacing a carpet a month earlier than planned?

Honeybee85 · 09/11/2019 15:41

What’s the background story? Was it done on purpose or an accident?

Whatever the reason, it’s absolutely disgusting and I would definitely replace the carpet. When we prepared the nursery for DS’s arrival we replaced the carpet for a laminate floor for this exact reason (possibly of baby pee accidents). Once a carpet is soaked with pee you can’t get it really clean anymore.

YANBU

Hellbentwellwent · 09/11/2019 15:41

Rank, there’s no way a hand clean will tackle this. Like pp said the underlay will have been soaked and be holding onto festering piss... possibly through to the floorboards. Carpet need up immediately to air dry the boards

Hellbentwellwent · 09/11/2019 15:41

Who is the offending adult btw?

hallohallohallo · 09/11/2019 15:41

Sorry, I can't get past what's happened. A drunk adult has peed all over your landing? Confused How on earth did that happen? And why would they refuse to put this right?

ThatMuppetShow · 09/11/2019 15:44

I don't really want to get it cleaned as I planned on replacing after Christmas.

then make the culprit remove it right now and bring it to the tip. You can find these chip plastic floor covered to put instead until you get your new one and he can pay for them (really don't cost much)
I wouldn't leave a stinky carpet in my house - they are disgusting as it is, and I wouldn't waste any of my time to clean them.

Get rid!

middlemuddle · 09/11/2019 15:44

Try simple solution pet stuff, it's what I use when my son pees on my bed. But make said pisser pay for it. Then if not, he should pay for a professional clean.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 09/11/2019 15:45

You were planning to replace it anyway, so a professional clean should be enough until then. I am assuming you have budgeted for the replacement and would be doing it even if there had been no piss on it.

Drogosnextwife · 09/11/2019 15:46

I had this years ago with a friends boyfriend. I went mad and he just left with a sorry, I had to clean it!

TitianaTitsling · 09/11/2019 15:46

Absolutely get rid! And they can pay!!

SunshineAngel · 09/11/2019 15:47

If I pissed on someone's carpet I would be so mortified that I would probably offer to buy them a new one!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/11/2019 15:47

Different situation, but when we adopted our cat she weed on the living room carpet on the first night (never done it again, she was just unsettled) and we hired a steam cleaning machine thing. It was about £70 for a half day, which actually gave us time to do the other carpets too. Maybe you could ask the person to pay/do that?

GeometricGiraffes · 09/11/2019 15:50

I wouldn't want them to replace.

Just give me the cost of a clean and I will put the rest to it to replace.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 09/11/2019 15:53

Perfectly reasonable to ask for the cost of cleaning and put towards a new carpet.

In the meantime you could try putting bicarbonate of soda on it, its helped with getting the smell of sick out of carpets for me before.

ButtonMoonLoon · 09/11/2019 15:55

All those recommending cleaners-it’s worth remembering that the underlay and possibly floorboards under that will also have been affected, this sounds like more than a cleaning job!

RexDangerVest · 09/11/2019 15:55

GRIM

ThatMuppetShow · 09/11/2019 15:57

I am horrified that so many posters would merely try to clean and would actually keep the carpet. It's vile.

Confirm my habit to get rid of all the carpets the minute I have the keys to a new property.

Pinkbonbon · 09/11/2019 15:57

'I planned on replacing it after Christmas' (anyway)

And with that line judge Judy would dismiss your case, unfortunately. You can't ask them to buy you a new carpet when the current one was old and about to be thrown out anyway.

You however, could ask for it to be professionally cleaned and for them to foot the bill.

Or just be honest and ask for a little dosh towards the replacement. But not the full amount. Morally.

That being said, don't let drunk pisser in your house again!
