Help me induce labour before tomorrow’s induction!

Hi everyone,

I know, totally BU for posting here but I’m getting super tired at almost 42 weeks pregnant and looking for any tips that might help me induce labour before my scheduled induction tomorrow!!!

I’ve had one vaginal delivery with DC1 and one C-section with DC2. I’m aiming for a VBAC this time but I’ve almost hit my limit for being overdue!

The only sign of labour I’ve had is the mucus plug bleeding (sorry for TMI) and very irregular minor contractions.

Wise ladies of Mumsnet, what did you do to help induce labour and get those pesky babies out???

I was booked in for an early induction due to reduced movements but was at 2cm when they sent me home the night before after a sweep. I basicallt did nothing but bounce on a birthing ball in the desperate hope it’d get things moving and I could be admitted to the birth centre prior to the induction appointment.

Aside from that I just kept moving as much as I could, and once my contractions got going a bit, went for a short walk, and was at 3 in 10 minutes by the time I got back.

Good luck!

if the baby doesn't want to come, it won't (I went 12 and 15 days over the EDD). with DC1 I had an induction as nothing worked. With Dc2, the sweep did the trick. Sweep at 4pm with no sign of anything. DC2 was born at 1am the next day.

I think nothing will work if your body is not ready.

However, DC3 was over 2 weeks overdue and I really didn't want to be induced (bad memories from DC1's birth). The night before I was scheduled to be induced (I had an appointment at 7:00 at the hospital), I cradled my bump and gently explained that if she could please, please come out it would be much better for both of us.
I had my first contraction at 6:01 the next morning. She was born at 8.

Just wanted to say that my first baby came on it's own and I was induced with my second.... if I had to do it again I would love another induction. It was brilliant. You only ever hear the horror stories but it was a million times better than my spontaneous labour. Best of luck!

Never take castor oil op.
Never.
Ever.
Can cause the baby to become distressed and poo. Inhaling meconium is life threatening..
Never even consider it.

CastleCrasher · 09/11/2019 16:58

Nipple stimulation. Tried everything I could think of, eventually tried that, and went from lying in bed bored stupid wishing baby would get a move on (10 days over, not so much as a twinge) to holy fuck im in full blown labour and ready to push within literally ten minutes. Be warned though, labour was incredibly fast. As in less than two hours!

Walking in stairs!

We live at the 4th floor and walking up and down the stairs 10x a day for two days in a row sorted out all three children. 39+ 4 (needed induction due to various causes, had a sweep and then stairs), 40+0 and 40+1

Swimmum78 · 09/11/2019 18:17

I had induction with my second after a c section with my first. My waters had broke and I stayed at home for 36 hours but it wasn’t moving fast enough so I had to go in for anti biotics and Induction. This was straight onto a drip- no one mentioned any issues with previous c section.

lionsonplanes · 09/11/2019 18:34

How are you getting on OP? I hope that you are busy cuddling your brand new baby after a quick and safe birth.

Conkerer · 09/11/2019 19:14

Nipple twiddling had frighteningly immediate results for me.
Good luck!

usernamerisnotavailable · 09/11/2019 19:25

Sorry to be so frank, but I brought on contractions at exactly your stage by playing with my nipples whilst bouncing on a ball. Think I read that nugget of advice on MN. Worked a treat. Good luck!!

Crazyoldmaurice · 09/11/2019 23:02

Baby will only come when he/she is ready and not before. A hormone released by baby's lungs is what causes labour to start so no amount of anything else will bring on true labour according to science. Best advice is if baby is happy to wait it out as most women will go into labour by 42 weeks. I got to 15 days overdue and started to get reduced movements so I caved into an induction, by the time I was given a sweep I had started to get very mild contractions anyway and was already 3cm without realising... I had my waters broken but had I not had reduced movements I would have waited it out.

Reflexology.

Seeing as you're unlikely to be able to find that at this time of day, if you have a DH you need to demand a decent foot massage.

cherryblossomgin · 10/11/2019 21:18

Sorry for suggesting castor oil. I had no idea that its dangerous. I've asked for my post to be removed.

ultrablue · 10/11/2019 21:48

A Burger King bought on labour with DD1 and DS1. Infact it was about this time 18 years ago that I was tucking into the one that resulted in DS making his appearance 12 hours later.

DD2 was another matter entirely lol x

Good luck. xx

MustShowDH · 10/11/2019 22:20

Hope all has gone well and you're getting newborn snuggles now.

GettingABitDesperateNow · 10/11/2019 22:29

It doesnt need to be sex, it can just be an orgasm, as that releases the hormones that help things along...

ItsNotMeItsNotMe · 10/11/2019 22:31

I had a lot of pineapple I went into labour 10 days early I’m not sure if there’s a connection but apparently it softens your cervix

PollyShelby · 10/11/2019 22:37

Nipple twiddling while drinking raspberry leaf tea got mine out.

Two hours after the first twiddling DD popped out. Happened v quickly

I wouldn't recommend sticking a finger or pineapple up your fanny, that sounds like a terrible idea to me.

Princessfaffalot · 11/11/2019 12:53

How are you, OP? Flowers
