Help me induce labour before tomorrow’s induction!

Hi everyone,

I know, totally BU for posting here but I’m getting super tired at almost 42 weeks pregnant and looking for any tips that might help me induce labour before my scheduled induction tomorrow!!!

I’ve had one vaginal delivery with DC1 and one C-section with DC2. I’m aiming for a VBAC this time but I’ve almost hit my limit for being overdue!

The only sign of labour I’ve had is the mucus plug bleeding (sorry for TMI) and very irregular minor contractions.

Wise ladies of Mumsnet, what did you do to help induce labour and get those pesky babies out???

Sitting and rolling your hips on a birth ball
Crab walking up and down steps
Unprotected sex
Masturbation
Nipple stimulation

TheGongGoesBong · 08/11/2019 17:57

Walking worked for me! I was 11 days overdue with my second, thoroughly fed up and keen to avoid induction so I was walked (more stormed around because I was on a mission!) for 3 miles and my contraction started. Good luck and congratulations!

SpoonBlender · 08/11/2019 18:19

Recent metastudy says sex doesn't seem to induce, only came up with nipple stimulation as statistically significant, and masturbation to orgasm as a maybe. So, busy night in for you!

Feck, that makes me look like a troll. Oh well. Science?

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31521572 is the paper, www.iflscience.com/health-and-medicine/sex-probably-wont-make-you-go-into-labor-masturbating-might-though/ is a layperson's writeup since it's not available in full.

Plenty of nipple squeezing info on t'web:

Smelling Clary sage oil ramped up my contractions with number 2 and 3.

MothershipG · 08/11/2019 18:27

Cumin tea with a cube of raw potato.

I tried sex, curry, pineapple, raspberry leaf tea, reflexology.

The cumin tea was the last thing I tried before I went into labour, so probably just a coincidence 😂😂😂

Awful lot of people playing correlation-is-causation tonight, glad some are aware of it :D

Massage the bump

LakieLady · 08/11/2019 18:37

When I lived in London, I knew an acupuncturist who seemed to be able to get things moving.

All my overdue friends went to him!

CaptainButtock · 08/11/2019 18:41

Nipple fiddling. Worked a treat for me.

kathryn19801 · 08/11/2019 18:45

I was 12 days over, booked in for induction at 14 days. After a horrendous induction with my first I wanted to avoid that. Tried everything but what worked for me was taking my toddler to the park and playing football with him. Contractions started in car on way home and baby was there 10 hours later.

ThePenIsBlue · 08/11/2019 18:47

Absolutely breast pump. I’ve just had my baby this morning after pumping for an hour last night. Baby was born a week overdue.

Boozysoozy1 · 08/11/2019 18:49

Acupuncture for me, had it the day before I was due and contractions started the next day - still took 3 days to get here though so maybe not the quickest solution!

Thingsthatgo · 08/11/2019 18:51

My midwife suggested sniffing a baby! It worked both times with me... the smell just got my hormones rushing! Do you know any newborns you could have a cuddle with?

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 08/11/2019 18:55

@Cocacolathanks That’s interesting to know; my hospital was a flat no to induction with a VBAC so I assumed this was the case everywhere, although mine was a few years ago so things may have changed!
Good luck to you!

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 08/11/2019 18:58

I took my 2 dogs for an hour and half hike in the afternoon. I was in full blown labour by 12am. Good luck

SandunesAndRainclouds · 08/11/2019 18:58

Reflexology has worked for me! Hope you’re soon cuddling your baby Flowers

Crunchymum · 08/11/2019 19:03

I too had a good induction (was with DC3 after 2 spontaneously labours)

I also thought that lots of hospital's dont offer inductions for VBAC. Its interesting how much it can vary from trust to trust.

LannisterLion1 · 08/11/2019 19:10

Do you have a breast pump at all? My midwife warned me not pump pre birth as it could stimulate contractions.

Stampy84 · 08/11/2019 19:16

Ok... so this is the strangest suggestion so far- however, according to a midwife it works every time..

So pineapple is known for helping labour right? But not the way you think.. apparently you would need to eat an enormous amount of pineapple for it to get your cervix going..

But here’s the other way..

So take yourself to Sainsbury’s or similar- purchase the pineapple fingers (ready cut)
If you insert this into your vagina it hits the cervix directly, keep it in for 20- 30 mins and should get you contracting..

Depends how desperate you are!!!

cantfindname · 08/11/2019 19:26

Bloody great big spider landing on my face at 3am started me off like a rocket! Can't say I recommend it though.

Roselilly36 · 08/11/2019 19:29

I had a glass of wine, avoided alcohol throughout my pregnancy, I was so stressed out, DH said have a glass of wine and relax, went into labour in the early hours!

Pegase · 08/11/2019 19:57

I tried a lot of the above - pineapple , curry, walking, sex etc and none worked. Neither did pessary so had to have synto drip. It was awful Sad

ShowOfHands · 08/11/2019 20:35

@SpoonBlender

Shall we all play corellation = causation

I ate rice and 25hrs later went into labour

I thought about Damian Lewis' bare bottom and my waters broke

Howdidido · 08/11/2019 20:35

Has to be the pineapple core- so stick it in a blender.
I also think anything that ups your oxytocin levels might work - hence sex. But a massive hours long cuddle may do the trick (or smelling a baby!) if you can't face sex
But usually
Raspberry leaf tea
Pineapple core (in a blender!)
Acupressure
Sex and cuddles
Long walks especially over stiles
Booking a non-refundable expensive event for the day before the induction.
For me: massive fear of inductions!)

BlueSuffragette · 08/11/2019 20:50

Walking did it for me. DD1 was 3 days overdue, walked during the day, stroll along the seafront, went into labour at 11pm. Good luck.
