I mean I've seen worse pictures but still.
Gross.

I've had a cold and sore throat but now I have this red swollen infected looking thing.

It's not part of my tonsils and it's definitely not a tonsil stone.

It hurts. But I've never had that in my life?! What even is that part of your throat called?!

Here’s mine from one of the times it happened (should be a pic).

Icedlatte · 06/11/2019 19:37

So where do you keep your tonsils? Because most people's are exactly where that white bump is in your pic. See diagram here.. .

EwwwwGrossWTF · 06/11/2019 19:38

I think that's what it is @RightEarlobeBreath👍

Others, ive had tonsil stones in the past. It was neither in the same place or presented the same nor smelled the same 🤢🤢🤢🤢

EwwwwGrossWTF · 06/11/2019 19:39

@RightEarlobeBreath omg yes that's exactly it but yours is WAY bigger.

Plus I can see your tonsils!

I'm going to edit my pic and make it clearer to show people where my tonsils are 😂😂

OP posts:
RightEarlobeBreath · 06/11/2019 19:40

Yeah, that was not a fun time when I had that one 😂😂

EwwwwGrossWTF · 06/11/2019 19:41

Here are my tonsils. They are quite small (compared to some, like my eldest DC!) do not totally obvious.

The infection is on a muscle type thing that moves when I talk. It's hard to explain.

OP posts:
AnneKipanki · 06/11/2019 19:46

A thrush plaque ?

AnneKipanki · 06/11/2019 19:48

Can you scrape it off ?

tinkering · 06/11/2019 20:01

I had this, thought the same, knew it wasn’t a tonsil stone. Had viral tonsillitis. No antibiotics though - gotta ride it out

fascinated · 06/11/2019 20:05

Get thee to sporners’ corner! Bleurgh! Imagine putting this in aibu ! ;-)

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/11/2019 20:05

The bit it's on looks like it's part of the palatopharyngeal arch, which sits behind the tonsils

You say it oozes green stuff when you prod it, so that sounds like pus = infection.

See your GP in case it gets worse. Stop prodding it -swelling in this area can cause serious airway problems.

Riv · 06/11/2019 20:09

The bit you have circled, where the whitish spot is is the back of your throat known as the pharynx, the arch bit just in front is the palatopharyngeal arch and the larger arch in front of that is the paletoglossal arch. Your tonsils are the lumpy bits at the base of them and as people have said, the reddish dangly bit in the middle is your uvula which is in the middle of the back of your soft palate.

I don't know what the white spot is but it looks like you have a throat infection.

BlueCornsihPixie · 06/11/2019 20:13

I agree with you OP, that is behind your tonsil!

I would say it's on your palatopharyngeal arch. Not your tonsils.

I agree it could be mucus but it could be infected, get to your GP

Riv · 06/11/2019 20:13

And your tonsils should be smaller than your DC's especially if your DC's are under 11. Most people's tonsils atrophy around puberty.

BlueCornsihPixie · 06/11/2019 20:14

Or the oropharynx, it's a bit hard to tell but not tonsils!

EwwwwGrossWTF · 06/11/2019 20:17

Well I've learned a lot, thank you!

Jellykat · 06/11/2019 20:21

Its not a quinsy, having had them 4x times and as someone upthread said, you'd know about it!
Personally id warm saltwater gargle and keep an eye on your ooze lump.

cherryblossomgin · 06/11/2019 20:22

Tonsil stones, I had them a few months ago, if you try to extract it be very careful because they area bleed easily. I done alot of damage to my tonsils extracting stones.

dementedma · 06/11/2019 20:27

Quinsy is terrifying. I couldn’t swallow my own saliva when I had one and ended up in A and E

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/11/2019 20:34

FFS - tonsil stones do not ooze green pus!

Pus = infection. Build up of pus = abscess. Abscess gets bigger and causes serious problems.

A quinsy is a peritonsillar abscess. It's an abscess on or NEAR the tonsils.

Starts with a sore throat and GETS BIGGER as infection progresses.

OP. needs to see a GP for treatment before it gets worse.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/11/2019 20:35

Snap, pies!

TroysMammy · 06/11/2019 20:39

BatEaredFox skimming through the replies I thought you said you could see OP's vulva. I know her mouth is wide open but that wouldn't be possible Grin

mankyfourthtoe · 06/11/2019 20:43

My dd has her tonsils out because of tonsil stones. She now gets them in her throat. Looks similar to that spot.
