To despise my Dyson more than words can describe

I have never loathed a domestic appliance before but God I hate this piece of crap. Every single time I try to use it, it either runs out of charge halfway through the job, or it is constantly getting blocked and doing that infuriating pulsating thing. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps on the website and waited 15 mins on the phone to the helpline which is apparently very busy today so maybe I'm not the only one that wants to thrown it out of a top floor window and go and buy a Meile.

It's a V7 animal. Don't buy one 😡

I love my Dyson cordless. I think it’s the same as yours. If it’s not sucking things up properly it could be a sensor in the tube that has gone. They replaced mine and it has been fine ever since. Never buy a GTech Ram vacuum though. Absolute waste of money.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 06/11/2019 16:40

I was stunned at how useless a Henry was, I can't believe they are hailed as so amazing. I'd have been quicker with a dust pan and brush.

Rafflesway · 06/11/2019 16:42

Twopups I can only speak from personal experience but I bought a GTech Pro 18 months ago. Had wanted one for ages! Must admit it felt very plasticky - like a toy - but, apart from that I had to have 4 batteries in the first 5 weeks as it kept cutting out. After the last battery I insisted GTech took it back and refunded my money which they only agreed to do when I quoted the Sale of Goods Act to them and when I agreed to pay £10 courier charge for it to be returned. 🤔

I bought a Shark cordless liftaway 6 months later and it has been amazing. Shark offer a 5 year guarantee on the machine and a 2 year guarantee on the battery. Mine developed a bit of a squeak after 3 months and Shark sent me a total new bottom section complete with new head, rollers etc. within 24 hours and at no cost to myself.
Has been absolutely fantastic since and I have now had it 13 months.
Can STRONGLY recommend!

beckyvardy · 06/11/2019 16:43

I have the same one. It's still doing the pulsating thing. I've always hated it. Just bought a Henry. I love it.

Malbecfan · 06/11/2019 16:43

My dad was in a vacuum cleaner repair shop last year and asked about Dysons. The owner said they were the best brand ever for him as he had shelves full of them in for repair (from which he derived most of his living). My Henry has been going strong since 1991, and my dad's even longer than that.

Rafflesway · 06/11/2019 16:47

Forgot to add, I also had a useless Dyson a few years ago followed by a very overrated and underwhelming Miele shortly afterwards.

Thunderpunt · 06/11/2019 16:49

I'm sorry OP but YABU...
I love my Dyson Animal and my dyson wall mounted thingamajig.

However at work I have to use a Henry, and I fucking hate him with his stupid cocking eyes, and his inability to move in a straight line....he's a wanker!

Inforthelonghaul · 06/11/2019 16:54

I have the V8 and I love it and will upgrade the V11 when finances allow.

Do you have the fluffy head? Makes the world of difference to how well it picks up on hard floors.

You need to clean the heads regularly and make sure the area where crumbs etc are sucked through is clear and not full of hair or fluff. Also wash the fluffy roller too as this gets very dirty.

Wash the filter once a month and take it off the plastic frame, you’d be amazed what gets stuck inside.

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 06/11/2019 16:57

I was thinking mines great, but then realised I have the V10, yes it’s annoying when I haven’t finished hoovering and it runs out of battery, but mines on full power mode coz of two hairy labradors, so I go do other stuff and come back to it later when it’s re charged, still have to give my head a wobble at how much it cost at the time though, but it really is good and sucky, had it about 18 months.

mumderland · 06/11/2019 17:07

Hated the dyson! Didn't touch the dog hair on our carpets. Now we've got a gtech and love it!

Blatherskite · 06/11/2019 17:20

I love the ease of just grabbing my Dyson off the mount and vacuuming but agree that the performance is crap. I've always had a Dyson since I've had my own home but I think my next one will be something different.

I'd love to stay cordless but feel like I'll probably end up with a Miele.

minesapinkgin · 06/11/2019 18:36

Ours was rubbish. Unless it was a tiny bit of fluff it wouldn't pick anything up.

We have now bought the duo shark and it's amazing!!

Lunafortheloveogod · 06/11/2019 18:43

Don’t buy a dust buster with a fancy sticker then?
I’ve never used and liked a cordless hoover... it’s not like you ever really hoover somewhere there’s absolutely no plug. Can you tell I hate cordless hoovers with 5minute batteries Grin

My old arse plug in dysons survived many wars.. somehow it’s still alive after falling down concrete stairs several times, getting soaked by a dodgy pipe and dp hoovering the feckin fire out with it!

We also have a henry (for the fire) it’s god awful! The fact the brushes don’t move means it never actually picks up hair that’s not just delicately placed on the carpet.. however he will inhale a sausage roll that a toddler flung.

EvaHarknessRose · 06/11/2019 18:52

[sitting here wishing for vacuum cleaner consensus on Mumsnet so I know what to buy] .

My input - hate our Dyson cordless but it is quite old. I quite like the Shark Liftaway corded but DH hates it and it's not as good on hard floors. It's easier to access the roller to remove hair but still gets blocked all the time.

Warmworm · 06/11/2019 18:56

Mine gave me the rage for the final time one day when I was hoovering the kids room. After taking it to bits AGAIN to cut hair off the roller and unblock the tubes I lost all patience when the stupid plasticy tube wouldn’t clip into the stupid plasticy clip thing. I started jamming it in angrily then eventually broke the tube.

I now have a cordless Vax which is heavier and also gets clogged up. I think I need to go back to corded.

GuessWhoColeen · 06/11/2019 18:58

Shaaaaaarrrrkkkkk

redchocolatebutton · 06/11/2019 18:59

yanbu
they are shit.
not losing suction my arse
plus you stand in a cloud of dust when trying to empty it

mummymayhem18 · 06/11/2019 19:03

Mine does the same OP. Like you say the light that lights up for blockage or filter or whatever it is often comes on even when there isn't much bits in the holder. And then like you say it starts to pulsate. So annoying. We actually have 2 cordless ones and one big ball upright one. I don't know about you but that is virtually useless on today's day and age good quality deep carpets. The thing won't move on new carpets. Can't shift it at all,so that's why I bought a cordless one. For the money you pay it's ridiculous.

WombleishofTheThighs · 06/11/2019 19:13

See, we had a Miele, not a Cat & Dog, though, and all it did was roll up fat cigars of dog and cat hair along the front of the head and not suck them up. I'd have to go over the same area time after time to get it pick up all the hair. Loathed it. It's kept upstairs now to suck up the ceiling cobwebs and dust and hair along the skirting boards, because it has a good reach if nothing else. I'm back using an upright again.

MarmsTheSausagedog · 06/11/2019 19:18

I feel your pain op!

I had a plug in dyson which was crap so I brought a cordless one... (yeah I cant see the logic in that either Hmm ) which after 2 years of useing everyday I realised was actually just picking up the muck of the top of the carpet and not under! Battery was crap and it kept doing the stupid blockage thing too....

So I brought a Henry... well that was terrible... so I brought a miele cat and dog and OMG it's the best hoover I've ever had (sorry op!) But the first time I cleaned the house I was shocked! My carpets look like new again. I just love useing it. Dyson truely is awful!

upsetsister · 06/11/2019 19:26

I love our cordless Dyson, and it’s the only thing that’s got DH actually doing the hoovering voluntarily and without prompting.

You do have to empty it as soon as it gets halfway full, and clean the filter regularly to keep it happy, but they’re hardly onerous tasks.

quickkimchi · 06/11/2019 19:32

Hated mine (plug in kind), well not mine exactly, it belonged to dh when we met and became ours. Whenever I used it I scratched, cut or bruised myself on the sharp corners and pinchy attachments. I'm not especially clumsy and don't tend to hurt myself on other appliances.
Replaced it with a Henry, couldn't be happier.
Also hate all their bullshit about British design when they've been manufacturing abroad forever. Henry is made in Somerset.

quickkimchi · 06/11/2019 19:34
  • 'Hated mine' = hated my Dyson. In case that isn't clear. Hmm
Peacenquiet2 · 06/11/2019 19:34

Agreed, also hate my Dyson v6 total clean which now is totally knackered after only 2 years use. Blocked constantly, only picked up tiny bits, ran out to fast, no good in a house with 3 messy DC. I now have a shark plug in which is far superior.

OlaEliza · 06/11/2019 19:38

Best vacumm I've ever had was a hoover alyx pet from Dagenham market for £25. I've still got it somewhere packed away from a previous move.
