To despise my Dyson more than words can describe

I have never loathed a domestic appliance before but God I hate this piece of crap. Every single time I try to use it, it either runs out of charge halfway through the job, or it is constantly getting blocked and doing that infuriating pulsating thing. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps on the website and waited 15 mins on the phone to the helpline which is apparently very busy today so maybe I'm not the only one that wants to thrown it out of a top floor window and go and buy a Meile.

It's a V7 animal. Don't buy one 😡

We had same problem, you probably need a new battery, it'll be free if within warranty

IdClimbHimLikeATree · 06/11/2019 13:50

Fucking stupid things the Dyson cordless vacuums are. Forever unscrewing the head so I can unravel whichever hair it's changed its mind about, getting it back together is a feat in itself. And the mechanism to empty it is shit, you have to take the whole thing apart, and getthing THAT back together again takes about 20 minutes. AND it passes out halfway up the sodding stairs. Utter shite.

I used to have a Dyson upright and it was great, lasted years. Don't know what's happened to suddenly make them crappy. Maybe it's just the cordless and compact that has made it shit. But going by the above comments probably not.

priceofprogress · 06/11/2019 13:50

YANBU. Dysons are absolute shite. So cumbersome and heavy and unwieldy too. Give me a Henry Hoover any day.

OohEekAah · 06/11/2019 13:56

YANBU I hate my V7 too Angry Biggest waste of money ever!

GingerbreadTeen · 06/11/2019 13:59

Get rid of that Dyson! Miele Cat & Dog Turbo is the best. You don't need to have a cat or dog but this is the only one with a Turbo brush.

Biddie191 · 06/11/2019 14:13

I have a dyson corded thing, it's an utter piece of crap, constantly blocking, won't hoover anything bigger than a crumb, and can't cope at all with hair. Sometimes the collection cylinder bit randomly opens when you try to take it apart to empty it, and drops all the dust all over you. Bastard

AlexaAmbidextra · 06/11/2019 14:25

I totally agree. Everything about mine made me murderous. The ridiculously short battery time, the fact that the bin won’t empty and you have to force the debris out and make a mess. And the stupid fucking bin size. Never before have I had to take a plastic bag and a chop stick around the house while vacuuming to empty the thing after every couple of rooms. Mind you, you have to admire James Dyson’s chutzpah in foisting the useless bloody item on us stupid fools at such an extortionate price. I now have a Miele Cat & Dog and it is hugely superior to the useless piece of junk produced by Dyson.

CabbagePatchKids · 06/11/2019 14:31

Doesn't everyone on Mumsnet swear by Shark vacuums?

I also have a cordless Dyson which I loathe. It leaves so many crumbs on the floor.

Forget cat & dog hoovers, they're missing a trick not making a toddler version...

chartreuse · 06/11/2019 15:24

I'm sending this thread to DH, I feel totally vindicated. Thank you all!

Shark are the best. I got the corded liftaway and I love it. It actually hoovers stuff Shock

With my old dyson, it would take me half an hour to do the living room carpet, not a big room, I would have to do the silly sidestep dance scrape up hair with my trainer shod foot as it wouldn't clean it otherwise. Literally takes 2 minutes (if that) with the Shark. Really easy to empty too and I don't get covered in dust or have to use a kebab scewer to get it emptied. My carpet looks brand new as it lifts the pile too. Smile

I should really buy shares as I am always recommending it.

holidays987 · 06/11/2019 15:49

I have a Dyson cordless stick thing and hate it. It's so unreliable & such a pain to clean out (needed very frequently) also have the Dyson plug in Cylinder I think it's called, had quite a few problems with that too.

Really frustrating.

Previously had a Vax which was not very good either. Next time I'm getting a Henry Hoover! People seem to love them.

OneKeyAtATime · 06/11/2019 15:56

Yes had one once in rented accommodation , said never again

loserssaywhat · 06/11/2019 15:58

Reading this has made me remember how awful it was cleaning out the cordless dyson! And also if you didn't click the little flip down compartment hard enough it would flip open half way through cleaning a room and scatter dust and clumps of hair all over the place which it then refused to clean up again! Temperamental prick.

Tempted by all the shark recommendations.

Everydaylife · 06/11/2019 16:01

My cordless Dyson is rubbish on carpets, gets clogged up with hair and the charge is pathetic. I hate it.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 06/11/2019 16:01

I like mine but won't be replacing it. It needs lots of filter changes, we bought them on eBay and change them every two weeks . It gets blocked a lot so dh spends a lot of time clearing it out with his air compressor. You must empty it after every use.

Jins · 06/11/2019 16:04

The only thing I hated more than my dyson was my henry

Proud owner of a sebo, a shark and clean floors

Beveren · 06/11/2019 16:12

I had one that was constantly getting blocked by the tiniest bits of fluff and refusing to suck. Never, ever again.

TwoPupsandaHamster · 06/11/2019 16:14

Ugh! I hate the Dyson Animal too. I was looking at either the GTECH or shark then DH went and bought this bloody thing! Within a week the strip on the head came off so it wont glide properly. It needs emptying all the damn time because it keeps getting blocked. I have to keep cutting out my dd's hair from around the brushes because anything tangled stops the brushes turning. I spent months getting frustrated because I could only do one rug at a time before the fucking thing cut out! TIP....Theres a button on the handle, Press it. If yours is cutting out its because the boost button is on - Not that it says that anywhere in the instructions!!!

I cant wait to bin it....GTECH or shark anybody?

2beautifulbabs · 06/11/2019 16:14

Hate my cordless dyson as well does the same as yours does it's frustrating I'm going to be buying a corded one next but not dyson maybe a shark or Bosch

fallfallfall · 06/11/2019 16:15

The dyson looks like a child’s toy and acts as a child’s toy. If actual work needs doing meile all the way.

userxx · 06/11/2019 16:15

@Jins Why the hatred for henry? I think its bloody amazing.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 06/11/2019 16:25

I've got a Harry - Henry's pet-friendly brother, and he's great. Was amazed at how strong the suction is, and can see why they're so popular at places such as schools and colleges. Deals with hay thrown out by my guineas with no problem!

Jins · 06/11/2019 16:33

@userxx Henry was cumbersome, ineffective and useless on carpet. He worked on hard floors but then so does a brush.

If I see a Henry in someone’s house I keep my shoes on Grin

20viona · 06/11/2019 16:33

I've got a cordless Dyson V10 animal and its bloody brilliant don't know if it's because all my carpets are relatively new and we have no pets but it's amazing.
