Political ones where hatred is vented on Conservatives (always depicted as ‘Tories’) or ‘Maggie Thatcher’. The tone and words would be interpreted as hate crime were it directed at a group named in the Equalities Act.
I live in a solid blue area with an 80ish per cent Conservative vote. People here are pleasant, good, polite, responsible, hardworking, law abiding and tax paying. They help each other and go over and above to keep the environment well above an ordinary standard, they people the local institutions, they volunteer and give to charity. They make eye contact and greet others in the street.
It always seems to me that scapegoaters are willing to take the efforts that these good people make but then abuse them. Reverse snobbery is as bigoted as snobbery.
These comments come up on many political or social threads but, scapegoating being what it is, are bizarrely shoehorned into others which have little to do with politics. The Brexit debate has shown these comments up for what they are as Brexiteers are irrationally and against the evidence identified with and as ‘Tories’ when all the polling publicity has revealed the Conservatives are split on Brexit.
I expect I will be flamed for writing this and it will all be ‘Maggie’s’ fault. Even though she has been dead for six years.
